Hi fellow bikers,

I am in the process of getting a bigger cc bike, most probably the Fazer 6.

I am riding a S4 now (Ver S), and though it served its purpose well up to a point, the bike is getting old and struggles with me and pillion. Could certainly use with more power and fun.

Any riders who upgraded from S4 to Fazer? I would like to hear from u guys the pros/ cons from the switch.

I know there's more power from the extra 200cc, but what about things like FC (20km/l?)/ maintenance/ wat to look out for/ any tips...etc.

Please advise before I plonk my hard-earned $$$ down. :)

Thanks in advance! :thumb:

y not fz1000? :D ...

my opinion.. bigger cc means bigger responsibility.... respect the bike and you will be fine.... myself from S4 to R1.... so far so good... know ur limit and ride safe :)

FC wise, im getting 18-19km/litre for my FZ6 07. Due to riders weight( im at the higher 90's kg). Some other bros is able to get 20km/litre, but not for me in sg roads.

For NSHW, im getting 20-22km/litre.

I might be Left Handed, But I'm Always RIGHT

DIY list

1. Volt Meter

2. Air Box Mod

3. Electric Horn

4. Dual Head Light

5. Removing of Mid Pipe's Cat

Thanks for the replies so far. :thumb:

I need something for my daily commute, something practical that can put a box, won't give me backaches, comfy seat, yet enough power for fun and ease of ride without full throttle up a slope with pillion. (combined weight ard 120)

I like the R6, R1, CBR, but I am too used to stuffing my top box full. :)

Also, I bet the road tax and insurance will be very high if I go for 1000cc and above superbikes.

My current bike manages 25km/l, so I guess the FC gotta go in compromise. One thing is that 70% of my ride is on the expressway, so I think I shd be managing ard 22km/L comparatively. Just a wild guess.

Wait, is the Fazer seat comfortable?

I should be looking ard for other alternatives, but for now, the F6 seems to be a good choice.

The seats is alright for me. Fazer 600 is somehow similiar to S4. At least thats what i thought be4 i bought my bike. Was considering S4 and FZ6.

I need it for day to day use, and also some touring during weekends and holidays. FZ6 is definitely better when it comes to road holding and perhaps travelling at 130-160km/h, its still quite stable. Unlike S4, its almost at the top speed ( no offense to S4 riders ).

FZ6 have a better supension compare to S4. If you always FZ6 would me more comfortable.

For normal maintaince, FZ 6 need 2.5L to 2.6L of EO, 4 spark plug and

oil filter (alternate change).

FZ6 got two model, FZ6-S and FZ6-N, FZ6-N is the naked one. Price should

be cheaper by around $500 as compare to FZ-6S.

riding a fz6 too, i feel that it lacks low end grunt unless you rev the tits out of her. not really what i want in a class 2 bike. fitted a set of pipes on but it only increases the sound. i guess i'll be switching to a litre bike after a year or 2.

consider the fz 1000, it's ~$2000 more, it is quite cheap for a 1st hand litre bike.

a set of cans for the fz6 will cost at least $1200 because they come in 2s

imho, compare these 2 options

a. I want a practical bike for singapore use and occasional touring

vs

b. I only have 1 lifetime and i want to experience a litre bike

i chose option A at first until option B started nagging at me lol..

fickleminded me :D

Just wana add my 2 cents worth........ I used to ride a Ver-S Super 4 also last time. Now riding a Suzuki V-Strom DL1k. Why not an Adv Tourer? Its been great to me so far. Use it everyday to work and weekend tours to hatyai/Penang watever no problem. Come the V-Strom forum and check out the friendly people there.......:--)

S4 for me over FZ6

S4 more comfortable , easier maintenance without all the electrical gadets ard.

i could sit on the S4's saddle the entire day and fell nothing but with the current fz6's seat....10 mins i have to move my butt already ( maybe its the seat but even with a $100 job done to it ....still the same)

S4 has a shorter handle bar reach essential for the vertically inclined like me

power wise ...not much diff low end (sucks to some extend , need to drop 3 gears just to have proper pull away from amber...i didn't remember doing that on a S4 Vtec 1 )...more top speed ...but how often do u need to go above 150/60 km/hr ?

No one mention Suzuki Bandit 650?

Its the only mid-cc class all-rounder with an engine designed specifically for it, not detuned sportbike engine like in the Fazer and Hornet.

Thats a very nice bike too.But think its cold in the market due to the resale value not very good.

Another option will be its big brother, the 1250 with ABS.Everything in will be lesser than $15K.but then again, its resale.... :dot:

Past rides are already history....

Current ride: FW VFR 800 ABS

Well, poor resale value has never really stopped many people from getting 'poor resale value' bikes. For me the enjoyment of the bike is worth it.

There are one or two 2nd hand bandit 650s around, and a new one doesn't cost much more than a brand new Super4. I think that alone is fantastic value for money.

fazer 1000 is the way to go for me. I used to ride s4 v.S for alost 4 years and have switch to fazer. It was definately a good switch. Having the practically of a streetbike, the power of a sport bike and the adventure of a tourer. It's an all rounder.

On average, every three days, 1 motorcyclist or a pillion die or is seriously injured in a traffic accident. Riding a motorcycle is dangerous enough. Riding recklessly is Suicidal.

If you want grunt, get the old Fazer 600 with the Thundercat engine (the one with a regular exhaust pipe on the right)

The engine of the new Fazer 600 is peaky.

agree with u bro.

i made the change from s4 spec 2 to a 2004 fz6

below 7k rpm, both bike feels the same, i'm not heavy, so the easy power delivery (some say lack of mid range) is not a problem. above that, if you think vtec on s4 is power, wait till you try the r6 engine rush from 8000 rpm onwards. from 110kmh to 180kmh in a few seconds only.

the maintenance is 5k and 10km, same as s4, except fz6 battery damn expensive, $120+ if i rem correctly. fz6 uses less EO than s4 also.

fc is the same as s4, if not better

fz6 wind protection is a lot better than s4, looks wise, fz6 of course win.

fz6 handling is a lot better than s4

anyway, i believe when you buy a buy a bike you dont really use logic one. no need to talk about resale value, fc, blah blah, when you see a bike you really want, you will surely get it no matter what people say. why else people buy ducatis? heh. you can tell me its damn stupid but if i could ill still get that 1098 lor...

my fz6 3rd party insurance is only $260 lor, i dun believe s4 can insure lower than that

one downside to fz6 ownership, you want to find aftermarket parts ALWAYS have to order and wait lor, damn sian.
