hi all,

sorry if i sound like a dumb blode but :

my car is on a 5 x 100 15" rims

question is

can i fit a 5 x 114.3 16" rims instead?

I get the five holes thing... but the 100 compared to the 114.3 is what i don get...

anyone can tell me if its ok to fit?? cos I might get from a private owner if it fits!

thanks alot guys

with 16" rims, the offset will be the thickness of tyres being compensated. with the thickness of the tyres being compensated, the width of the tyre has to increase (according to your offset ratio on ur car)

eg, u are on 165/55/15 (width of tyre/thickness of tyre/ 15 inch rims)

if u change to 16" rims, it could mean,

195/50/16

just an example. my fathers car was originally 165/55/15.

now its 215/35/18

pls correct me if im wrong

No more regrets.

nope cant fit.

PCD of 114.3 will not fit 100. PCD is how far apart the bolt hole are using the centre of the wheel's diameter and a reference.

When buying rims, we look out for the following in order of importance for fit.

1. number of bolt holes. different number of holes confirm wont fit

2. PCD. different PCD confirm wont fit

3. Offset. Offset different may still fit depending on how much room you have for the tyres to move freely. Offset basically defines how deep or protruding your tyres will be when your rim is fitted on the car.

thanks for the info throttle, guess i'll just have to wait a lil longer for a swet deal to come along then.... haizzzz

waiting for a good pair of second hand rims may take forever!!!!

seems alot of ppl are going to poh heng as opposed to stamford..

Ride's an Impreza so do not need fancy rims just "sportier" ones will do

also heard that "spoon" isn't gonna come back to singapore... any concrete news on that???

what's your take???

any other brands I should consider other than momo & oz???

lookout for these rims in the local subaru forum

http://www.subaruclubsg.com/forum/

Forester stock (16") rims are priced cheaply, just a couple of hundreds, and they are plug and play with TS. But they can't clear the WRX front 4 pot caliper brakes.

So if you have intention of upgrading your brakes, you have to plan ahead to ensure that whatever future brake upgrade will suit the existing rims.

Do note that 16" tyres are considerably more expensive than 15" tyres. And 17" tyres are almost twice the price of a 15" tyres for the same brand and series. Upsizing your rims will make your TS even more sluggish, and negative impact on your fuel eonomy.

i missed out something too. 215/35/18

the 35 (thickness of tyre) is 35% of 215 (width of tyre) in mm.

No more regrets.

Paiseh, Your father's tyre aspec ratio sounds a bit off.

Not saying that it's not possible but I've actually never heard of 215/35/18

For 215 width 18" usually tyre height is 40. Perhaps your father's tyre is the quite rare one.

I'm using 245/35/18 and before than 225/40/18 if i remember correctly.

ok i actually wanted 40 or if possible, 45. but the shop which i bought the rims from didnt have stocks for 215/40/18. they only have 215/35/18. i ask abt 45 but they told me minimum for 40, width would be 225 and it cannot be fitted on the car.

which explains y the rims dun really look nice as it is now on closer observation. :D anyway, im waiting for this set of tyres to go botak den change to 215/40/18 hopefully it will make the gap look smaller.

the rear's gap is exactly same as the front's gap. but due to the tyre profile. the front's gap seems larger. rear is on stock 15" and front is on 18"

FC drops from 15 - 16 +km/litre to 12.1km/litre o_O

Going from 165/55 R15 to 215/35 R18, your speedo is 8% too slow, ie. speedo reads 100kph, you are actually traveling at 108kph.

Going from 165/55 R15 to 215/40 R18, your speedo is 11.9% too slow, ie. speedo reads 100kph, you are actually traveling at 111.9kph.

That may not be a bad thing as that would offset the inherent error in the speedo because they are usually about 10% optimistic.

Changing from 215/35 R18 to 215/40 R18, the difference of the tyre sidewall is an increase of 1cm so the height gained is 2cm. Visually, the gap (fender to tyre) is still big. The only way is to lower the car.

Posted

im trying to source for 215/45/18 if there are such tyres. im quite against lowering.

1. the car is not mine

2. the only affordable lowering kit for this car is eibach lowered springs. but still it costs $520. not to mention after changing the springs, i have to go back to the workshop after 1 - 3 months to check for alignment etc. hence i prefer stock

i wonder if there are such tyres around: 215/45/18. my neighbour bought the new honda stream and fitted 225/45/18. they look so much bigger and nicer, visually.

No more regrets.

215/45/18 also a very rare combi if available.

For your car, actually 17" is max, in my opinion.

that pic of the car on the ramp sure looks like my company's workshop..hahaa...

to be exact...the 2nd number in the series is the aspect ratio of a tyre...
