hi, also got a question regarding first timee buying bike online from owner directly. i read from the LTA website that to transfer a bike,u need to fill in details of ur insurance, but then when buying insurance, u need to provide ur bike details and those. so if i were to buy a bike, which should i do first ? settle ownership first then get insurance for the bike ? or other way round ? thanks.

normally everything is done at the bike shop.. including the insurance.. unless u find insurance agent.. which is abit troublesome. have to consult ur insurance agent.

hey faulk, the way to get about this is to:

1) Confirm with the seller that you're buying his bike and agree on a price. Confirm with him a date when you want to do the transfer at LTA Sin Ming.

2) Call up NTUC to apply for your insurance, you'll only need the license plate number. They can process the application for you over the phone. Let them know the date which you want the insurance to be effective from & the branch you want to collect your insurance policy.

3) On the day of the transfer, collect the insurance policy first, then head down to LTA Sin Ming with the seller to do the transfer on the spot.

4) Pay the seller the money, take over the bike, and happy riding

Hope this helps. It's actually a very simple process. But like what Bk88 said, some bike shops do provide this service, but at a fee of course. So in my opinion, it'll be much better to do it yourself.

Cheers! :thumb:

I've just spoken to my friend working at mitsui. She showed me the price guide and for 3rd party is at $960... If you are 19 and below + P plate you got to pay another $250.... thats like $1210 without GST T.T Can anyone give me more details about the NTUC one?

why all so exp?

ijust called up NTUC for new riders, 19 yearold. . itold her FS,FT,FU plates. the aunty tell me abt $600+. she herself tell me mitsui went up ALOT.

hey ql88, look at the previous post and you can get a rough guide. seems like mitsui's premiums went up a lot for whatsoever reasons.

anyways, to get a better quote, give NTUC a call. i think i posted the number a few posts up. check it out.

Can try AXA also..

AXA if i'm not wrong only provides insurance for riders 21 and above. Read it from someone's post in the forums somewhere.

Hmm.. I'm under AXA insurance, and I was 19 when I bought the bike. But I'm only sub-rider. Maybe the above 21 only applies to main rider?

Yeah, maybe your main rider was above 21. But I've really read from somewhere that they only offer coverage for those 21 and above. Not really sure of the reasons though.

Anyway with Mitsui's prices at an all time high, I think the best choice at the moment has to be NTUC. Also weird that Mitsui's prices experience such a great jump. But guess it's fortunate that NTUC didn't follow suit.

:p heyy guys! i tink those new riders asking questions on whyy insurance so high compared to some other ppl dont noe abt e new change in rules liao!

so lemme try to help explain:

since Jan 2007 due to e increase in e number of bike accidents that p-platers have been involved in has increased, the singapore govt has ordered e insurance for p-platers regardless of age to have $150 to $300 more for their insurance than normal riders depending on e type of bike.

if some of u have had frenz hu got their SP for insurance at 500++ i have a feeling tt ur fren got it before Jan 2007

i am a p-plater and i got my sp in november last yr n i paid $537 for my 3rd party insurance wif mitsui. at that time i was 19 yrs old.

recently since june insurance prices have risen which means if e new ruling for p=platers was nt implemented i wud be payin 600 to 700 for my insurance.

so add e $150 or $200 extra for p-platers now and its almost 1k.

so i hope u guys understand whyy its more ex than some other ppl.. :p

well if i'm not wrong, in the past mitsui was much cheaper than NTUC.

so everyone took mitsui. but when everyone takes mitsui, then accidents also claim mitsui.

and usually those that claim are p-platers and ppl under 21. so recently, on the 20th august mitsui increased their insurance prices for p-platers and those under 21 years of age by 100%. which means instead of paying 600 for 3rd party you are paying close to 1300 for the same insurance.

as for NTUC, there is a slight increase as well, however not by a lot.

hope this clarifies most of the queries.

damn!
