As for the backfire issue, I am sure it is not the fuel/air ratio issue. Many mechanism tune it and i tune it before...still same problem.. Most probably the spark plug... this time i use cheap one and no problem..so i will continue to use back this spark plug..

Cheap one? How cheap is cheap?

 

For yours i think it's the spark plug la.

 

Well most back firing problem 80% lies wif the spark plug. If still backfire after change it means your mixture either too rich or too lean.

Second hand bikes no need to run in or hard run in. Just ride like normal will do.

ok, this is what happen actually today... man so pissed just now..:-

 

a few days back i felt the roughness of riding the bike as what i told in the 1st msg(topic starter), so what i did this morning was when to spc(pasir ris) to get eo change, i am not sure what he put inside (maybe 2T) i also dunno, then immediately after that re-fuel with unleaded 98, this is first time i use different oil, always use shell 98. Then i went to CMPB get check up, the ride was nice and perfect, or so i thought. I was very comfortable with my bike riding at expressway.

 

Then after 4hrs parked at CMPB, I pillion my friend home, this is where all the problem start, i was riding as per normal when suddenly in gear two, going to accelerate, it did not respond at all, i twist but no power reply by my engine, my head go blank!, suddenly after that my engine died.

 

I stop aside and tried to electric start, but fail again and again. I was very confused at this point. Then after that I electric start + FULL THROTTLE, then my engine start running, then if i close back throttle even a bit longer, the engine will die. I have to full throttle, close, full throttle, close, so as to keep it running...

 

Then try imagine full throttle then gear one... haha, i must admit, it was quite thrilling acclerating at such high speed, then i reach 30km/h on gear one (poor thing my bike man..), so if i throttle on any gears, my engine die. SO.. ahaha.. it was quite an experience riding. On normal rd, will stall engine and got to electric start + full throttle.. did this more than 15 times. Also while riding I smelt the fuel...

 

Then, I rode aye-ecp back.. on this condition of motor, what i found out was, in this condition, my bike EAT the fuel thrice as much time compared to normal condition. The whole trip back was jerky like hell!! Throttle-extreme jerk backwards, off throttle SLIGHTLY, jerk extreme forward. I was like on the rodeo machine. Also, I found out the only steady state was continuous acceleration. The thing is, my bike accelerate to 100+ like nobody business, I was amazed by the power.

 

As I told it eats the engine, so at before exit 10B marine parade. My bike gave up. I throttle but response getting little and little.. lastly, i reach full throttle hold it then, then... no response. My bike is officially dead, I was lane 2, I change lane 2 to ln 3 and 4 to rd SH with no engine.. it was close.. alas, my bike was totally out of fuel.

 

it was like 300m from exit 10b. i push all the way out of expressway. i was sweating, swearing and mindless.. luckily got my friends. They went to mobil to buy petrol and eo( I suspect the spc guy put wrong eo.) Then i put petrol, same thing. full throttle on normal rd. stall another few times, i also adapt: off throttle rapidly, kick down to N and FULL throttle, then engine never die.

 

Got to the motor shop(balong) change eo(esso the 10W50) first. let him start still cannot, spark plug change to denso $6.50 one, then still cannot e start like normal, so he say carb or internal problem, the carb i don't mind, but internal poBEM? whats that.. sounds dangerous.

 

so I ask if clean carb or service the carb. how much, he quote 45. so I gave him key, take bus home, he say tomoro can collect.

 

OK, what are you're opinions? I know thIS POBEM very THE long, if me, i can't be able to read... but this is what actually happen so. I hope you guys can help.

$45 dollars for what? If just for servicing carburator, I am sad to hear. U kanna chop carrot head already la bro.

aahha... what's behind the metaphor chop carrot head? haha.. the end of the carrot.. the part cannot eat, its in my blood to bargain for everything, so before he could finish saying forty-fffff, i SAY 40!, then ok. so, it ok, kena chop, 1st chopping experience... arGHHHHH!

 

anyway i dunno he service, maybe wash (10 bucks, from other threads)

i dunno if change carb.. how, he's the one kena chop?

WTH ! $45 !! even 45RM is ex for washing carb. :cheeky:

change carb? think u r the one kena chop if he change carb and u gonna pay for it. :sweat:

i tink thats not too wise of u to leave yr bike at some unknown bikeshop w/o u being there to physically witness what the mech did or did not do to yr bike

 

the worst case scenario will be the shop calling u up later on to tell u a million other parts on yr bike requires replacing...

yup agree...

 

btw, clean carb dont need so many long hrs to do it. it can finish it within on hrs or less. just wondering why u or he wanna leave the bike there for...

 

anyway good luck to you getting ur bike later. hope there wouldnt be more problems.

normally 2b bike.. wash cub should be not more than $8

if your bike is 2nd hand... runing in should not be you doing it..

 

normal run in is where by runing the bike at not more than 80km/h or so and try to freqently change into all gears to run them in slowly..

 

hard run in is wrack all you can...in all gears...to run in faster..

 

hope i am rite about the above..

i never did hard run in before..

how much you got ur wave for? 2nd and the milage is only 1400km

kena chopped is bad, but still small matter

 

worse case is kena chopped already problem still not solved

 

try to read up more on this forum to identify the good and bad shops

 

always have a reliable mechanic on hand in case of need

 

behind every happy rider is a competent mechanic :D

Bro, saw yr thread... and i hv sumthing to share... mine is also a 2nd hand wave s,

 

2 mth ago i have the similar problem wif yours.... when riding constant abt 90 to

 

100 km/h, it virbrates liek hell & very jerkish too... then out of a sudden, open

 

throttle.., there was no reply then suddenly engine die off in the centre of the

 

xpressway, i got to slowly move back to sh lane & start more then 20 time then

 

can start. So i went to my own mech in sg & let him check throughly & this is wat

 

he says..

 

1 - my petrol tank rusty, fuel line to carb choke, no petrol goes in so engine die off

 

2 - carb very dirty, fuel jet ckoke due to rust & water inside

 

3 - piston head dirty or spoilt, piston ring wear off (tats y eo so fast eat finish)

 

4 - spocket & chain sharpens so pick up no power

 

5 - forks out of alignment bearing gone so shaky in handle bar...

 

If i can remember is tats all..

 

So i hv change my petrol tank $75, put a fuel filter in the fuel line $5, wash my

 

carb $15, 428 spocket n DID chain $xx (forget le), change castrol R4 EO n denso

 

spark plugs $30, bearings change $xx (forget too).

 

For my piston n ring nv change... fork oso nv change.... No $$$ liao...

 

Above was my exprience share with you guys hope it helps....

Thanks mr. Bean for the advice, but the closest shop was that one, i can't be riding like in that condition, far tOO dangerous...

 

memphis: i got it for 2.7k otr plus insurance 2nd party, 19years old, just pass. mr. bean was there(thanks).. and i mean i have been riding so far for 1400km only.. the total km is 6300000...i also dunno ho many zeros. and thanks for the run in info. and yes, i learnt that washing carb is so cheap and easy to do, i kena like this then i know how to do that!

idn: yes, my fren say a short while can change the carb or wash the carb, the thing is i dunno mah... my frens had to leave me cause there got to go to work.. then the chopping begins.. sigh sigh.

I rather push bike or call a tow truck than send my bike to a bad mechanic ... things can get really screwed up if that guy is negligent/incompetent o_O

true misterbean... just to ask, how much for the tow truck? pushing i can't really, i push my bike from the mark i finish petrol till the signboard that says exit 10b=200m, i can't tahan already.

 

ok, got my bike back.

 

hope there wouldnt be more problems: idn ... i was praying hard.. but sadly.. after i take my bike, i felt that the "normal" vibrations are getting louder, not silent like i prefer it to be, so is the gear changing, very loud rev. sound and vibrations. i guess you guys are used to it, the worst part is that when i start my bike, i realise my headlight was not on, then i switch it on, there was light.. then while i was riding, after a few km, my light was gone.. freak, another problem, i know 30Bucks if caught. I'm dead... can fix light tonite anywhere? how much... mister bean? its ok if tonite cannot... i'll check back at 10pm later..

 

these are the problems SO FAR after getting back my bike.

 

The root of the problem:

 

he said nothing about the caburator... he said the problem was a cable.. the cable is made up of 2 wires connected at the end and got these metal piece, he said one cable is for petrol, the other is for (something else, i forgot), then both got petrol inside so thats the problems.

 

i think i heard it from my friends its over float? or over flow? what crap.

so he charged me 5 bucks for changing. WAH really man kena chop man! freak!!!! as usual choppers will get what choppers want. so he ask 45!! i bargain like 20 mins.. then no choice, kena chop till dices.

 

its ok, i'll get that full service ( mr. bean ), will be contacting u soon.

i think the shop tt stil open now is racewerks at bukit merah.. any other shop?... they are quite honest in reparing bikes :thumb: tow truck is abt $30..

I would suggest that you fix the light first. Monitor a few days to see whether the problem is truly solved or if it recurs. Full service at jb can come later ... when you are sure your bike is in a road worthy condition. Anyway you just serviced the carb, changed EO and spark plugs already so no point doing another full service now

 

Agree with Touch n Go, Racewerks is reliable. But don't think you will make the long journey from east to west to fix the light problem. Why don't you go back to Looi or try Planet Motors in the East?

 

Wave isn't too heavy, you should practise pushing it more ... it can save you 30 bucks for the tow :cheeky:
