hmmm not even coney island?

Pu Serangoon aka Coney Island, whatever you want to do there, you can do it at Changi beach and with more convenience.

If you want great places, you can go island hopping just across the singapore straits in Indonesia waters. But you would need a sailing permit, and embark a local guide from their marina because there are no commercially available charts for these waters.

If you think you really like boating, I would suggest you take up dingy sailing first, like a Laser or Byte, and learn the about the wind and wave. Something you can start straight away, no licence required. After that if you still like the sea, then you can take up the PPCDL. With the knowledge of sailing, with some experience, and PPCDL, you can progress to keelboats.

SAF Yacht Clubs run such courses at affordable rates, even to non-members.

aiya then it's even easier, go SAFYC at Sembawang Clubhouse to rent a 6 seater boat. Bring some drinks & food, start the cruise westward to the causeway, then proceed eastward all the way to Coney Island, stop there for a short picnic, then go further east and round Pu Ubin via Nanas Channel, and proceed back to the clubhouse. All done within 6 hrs, slow cruise at 8kts, with 1 hr stop at Coney Island.

If u oredi have the licence, i find that Pulau Hantu is really nice. If u have not been der, its worth going. Really nothing there, but u can always fish and BBQ etc.

at SAFYC is less than $80 with petrol included for members only. Boat chartering (self-drive) is for members only, this is the practice at all clubs in Singapore.

From Sembawang, you won't have the time to venture into the western waters of Singapore.

i dun recommend u fish around P Hantu. A lot is being done to improve the reef conditions there. Having fishing weight and lines screwing up all the underwater work done is the last thing the reef needs.

btw, i got my PPCDL too

2 days prob just the course. You get a cert saying u went for the course, but not your PPCDL.

To get your PPCDL, u need to pass the 2 tests

theory test is fri evenings at Singapore Poly (not every fri)

prac test is saturdays at Poly Marina (not every sat)

How is the practical test like ?

- Berth and Unberth the boat safely.

- steer a straight course

- Do a simulated man-overboard recovery with a life-buoy.

Once you get through the theory test, the practical test is easy.

So is swimming skills a must or a good to have ?

for PPCDL. there is no requirement for swimming skill as we are supposed to don life-jacket whenever we are operating the boat. Nevertheless, to me, swimming is one of the life skill in which we should be proficient since we live on an island.

how much did u rent it for liuj?

actually the practical test is easy just the oral test portion after the practical is a nerve-wrecker. considering u can still flung this portion if you got your theory F up.
