Why would they do that? Right now, LTA is making big bucks from ALL COEs. If they split it, and smaller bikes may attract lower COEs, the revenue will decrease. I think the gov is addicted to this easy money, and they're not going to make any changes to decrease it.

As a matter of fact, small bike owner suffers under the current COE system, I rather they classified into 3 cat as well or according to the license that we are so familiar. It will separate from needy and speed demon, or someone in between who wants better road holding and speed.

Attached is a chart of PQP over the last 16 years. I collect PQP cos I dun buy new bikes :p. PQP is a forward-averaging of COE, hence making it a smoothen version of COE. Nevertheless, it still reflects the COE state.

As seen in early 2014, that when the hike gets ridiculous.

Cannot wait. Based on the chart COE has been on a slow but steady rising trend. Yet in 2014 the rise suddenly becomes a sharp rising curve, which seems very abnormal to me.

If we don't do anything to bring it down, it will continue to rise as see in the past years till today.

Are you looking at the right chart? It hit 1.5K in 2000, 2001 and 2008, and has been higher than 1.5K since 2010. That's not the definition of "seldom".

Looking at the chart, there are localized areas where it decreases, but the general trend is upwards. What this means is that, in the long term, it will rise, and the rise will be greater than any localized decrease. The longer you wait, the higher it is. This is familiar to anyone who has been tracking property prices or stock prices.

The only things that can bring it down significantly is a financial crisis or government intervention.

I personally still think fair price for COE should around 1.5k. This chart is only shows the years, if you scrutinize closely, on a monthly basis still lower than 1.5k, again I might be wrong.

Anyway the latest round of COE $5800.

I agreed with you, only things that can bring it down significantly is a financial crisis or government intervention. Looking at past years, Shxt usually happened after COE had hit its peak, after 1997, 9/11 (2001), 2008 and let's guess what is the new height...Will it hit 10k?

Good luck to those over leverages, I am hoping my G6 can buffer me for the next 2 years, till I see 1.5k COE...Hohohoh

Dont need to do anything, the storm might be coming, I always make sure I got enough saving to last me and my family for 2 years...That's why I can only afford old bikes.

I believe a lot car owner convert to bike due to high cost to own a car. Compare to 10yr ago. They scrap or sell. This contribute to more demand for coe.

It will gets worse due to more car owner scrap their vehicle.

They are not taking away dealers from bidding COE.

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/current-coe-system-to/1654916.html

"In fact, experts in auction theory agree that the current system, which prices all COEs within a category uniformly, incentivised bidders to bid their true valuation."

Bxtxh, planning to own a debt for 10 years is not true valuation.

Don't know why they can't increase Cat D COEs and lower the prices. Got something against riders meh? Riders cause congestion...so must abide by strict quota? Doesn't make sense at all.

She says ""In fact, experts in auction theory agree that the current system, which prices all COEs within a category uniformly, incentivised bidders to bid their true valuation.""

Exactly the point. "Auction" theory.

Definition: An auction is a process of buying and selling goods or services by offering them up for bid, taking bids, and then selling the item to the highest bidder.

Meaning bids will go higher, benefiting only the well heeled. In the process, generating a higher revenue stream for the Govt, even though there's no difference in car population if the system was changed to balloting, pay-as-you-bid, or if only private citizens could bid (lower figures)

In the end, J Teo only served to protect their bottom line.

More excuses and lies to keep rolling the dough, robbing the citizens.

Possibly there could a small dip after festive season, but it will tend upwards again withing 2-3 rounds of bidding.

Decrease a bit then increase by many folds. What else is new?

Still cheap if you based on that perspective. Well some COE can cost 2-3 times of the vehicle and people are still buying??
