Guys,

Any idea how much is it to repair the speedometer? Mine not working le... But still got backlight!

a good chance that its just the speedo cable dropped off from the speedo... you should be able to diy and fix it... just unscrew the two screws on the top chrome cover (where the speedo sits) and slide the cover upwards... the speedo should be removable now... check if the cable is attached to the speedo or not. If it was not attached, just screw the cable back on, and tighten it!

Now my TA200 has this problem. tick tick sound at cold start. Mostly Chain tensioner need to replace. I want to have it done at planet since other place looks like having a poor quality.

However, I am only available to go to planet on Saturday and I will still ride the bike everyday. I wonder what could be damage to the engine if I don't fix the chain tensor in time?:thirsty:

i had this problem also.... changed the tensioner for $55...but doesn't seems to rectify the problem.... so have really becareful.....could be wear and tear of piston.... ?

ask both planet and koon.....they dun seems able to give a concrete answer to this...

let continue to share more on this case...i'm keen to overcome it as well....but no answer till now....cos not willing to spend $$ just to overhaul on this cold start tick tick sound....ler

Oh ... SO what if i use the "HID" anything can happen? Like Melt my headlight or??

no... the headlight won't melt probably... but since the bulb is long it might have a hard time fitting in, and then the beam would always be a high beam...

When the cam chain is allowed to go slack (that's what the cam chain tensioner does, hold the cam chain under tension), the cam timing will be out of sync with the piston position.

In the worse case, the input or exhaust valve might be heading towards fully open and the piston is approaching TDC. *WHAM* piston hits the valve. Piston & valve (and possibly other parts) gone case. Bike up lorry, pocket burn one big hole.

I had the fortunate/unfortunate chance to encounter first hand the tensioner failing. I was approaching a downslope towards traffic light turning red. So, naturally I rolled off the throttle. Immediately, a very loud rattle comes from the engine (on hindsight, probably the tensioner chain whiplashing the block). This rattling is much much lounder compared to the slight rattling I had before. Lucky for me, traffic was light. I straight away signal left, and cut engine via kill switch (killing the engine fast saved my pocket).

Called for a tow and sent to Planet. I did not suspect initially that it was the tensioner which gave way (changed about 5 mths back). Mark started the bike and the rattling sound is damn scary. Ah Chong faster asked to kill the engine, said it was the tensioner gone case. After removing the tensioner, it doesn't even spring back! Very heng that the bike can still start after replacing the tensioner (cam timing still intact), otherwise, the 1 hr/$55 job probably would have became a 1 wk/$550 affair...

Ticking sound can also be due to increased valve clearance. I might be wrong, but based on my scary experience, if the ticking sound progressively gets lounder and lounder until it becomes a slight rattle as the days go by, I'd get the tensioner changed ASAP.

It is normal to have some minor ticking sound. It is created by the cam actuating the valves. Especially during cold starts when there is little EO at the top of the engine.

The sound of problems with the cam chain or tensioner is relatively louder and much more distinct.

Oh well, like somebody once said, experience is something you don't get until just after you need it :)

100-200. Dun worry about melting. Relocate your rear signals. Some models, water may leak in when rain.

Original still can use your balancers. Aftermarkets some cant. Balancers or not, some say not important. Aftermarkets would cost around $20. So if original is around that price, can get it.
