u have to see how big the cone behind the speakers are..

lets say u are putting in the smallest woofer, 6" (which is pretty useless) plus two 2.5" (which is also pretty useless unless those 2.5" are top ranges one. if not the sound will crack v easily), you might be able to put in a 3/4 helmet with the raincoat stuffed into the helmet. if your helmet is those evo types... i think v difficult. unless u can place it facing up so that when u close, the cone is fitted into your helmet.

at the end of the day, to have good sound quality, you need space for your speakers, and woofer's cone to echo which sadly our boxes can't provide, and together with the stuffs you are putting in, the sound quality will be even lousier...

i think actually a pair of 5.25" at the back, and two 4" on your fairings with a baby amp in your u-box shd do the job then having a woofer with two 2.5"....

my two cents after playing with so many different configs and wasting a lot of money.

thank you for the detailed reply.. looks like i can forward all my questions to you alr :D

problem is, i want bass and volume at the same time. yet i don't wanna cut a hole in my fairing. :D

how about a 8 or 10" woofer.. and 2 X 5.25" in my box. with my baby amp and a small external battery in my u box. how would the effect be?

or is there another alternative to have probably 2 X 5.25" and 2 X 4" in my box that would give almost the same quality of sound as compared to 2 X 5.25" in my box and 2 X 4" in my fairings?

and lastly, would 300 be enough to cover 4 speakers, 1 baby amp, 1 external batt and installation? sim lim tower lvl 6 is okay right?

let me share with you my configurations...

i am riding a raider. front mounting is impossible. so my v first config is 2 X 5.25 (brand super rock) with a 90Watt (i think so) baby amp, brand sony. the sound is great. even travel at 80 - 90km/h still can hear.. but wind v strong liao. not clear at times. e33 box still can cramp in one helmet and raincoat...

then i decide to delicate the whole box just for my system. i changed my amp to a 400W amp, with a spare batt and two 6 X 9inch 3 way speaker one top one below, of course the 2 X 5.25 speakers still in use. the sound is even louder, till i think as loud as some cars.. or even louder. but still the base is not what i want. and one more thing, the box is freaking heavy...

alright, then i got a wave. i didn't want to put any box behind. so i only used a baby amp with 2 X 4inch speaker front mounted. i must say i am impressed. even at 70 - 80km/h the 2 speakers can be heard quite clearly.

i concluded that, if u wan real good system, i suggest you mount speakers both front and rear. a baby amp will not be able to push anything out of the woofer you are getting. trust me. a 60 - 90W amp cannot get anything from a 6". let alone 8 - 10" and woofer consumes a lot of batt life... unless you are like me who uses the system on weekends... if not its heavy, and no space to place anything at all...

thats my own opinion though... there are ppl who are using a 200W amp with 2 X 5.25" speakers and are getting great sound. all in a micro2 box. and seems like still got space.

get a scoot. lol... you can put a 8 inch woofer, capacitor, extra batt, 2 X 6" front mount and 2 X 6 inch rear mount. whoa! can silence a car system anytime.

okay. i guess i'll go for 2 front and 2 rear speakers. baby amp and batt in my u box.

i don't want to lose stability due to a heavy box..

but.. i still don't wanna drill my fairings! ): nvm let's see what the guys at sim lim says.. thanks alot! (:

Posted

u can drill your fairings actually... but just becareful of ppl stealing your stuffs... there are a lot of cheap stake arse around. i will recommend you cover your bike regularly...

as for the fairings... a pair of spare side fairings are cheap even in sg... thats my own opinion though...

:goodluck: have fun with your system!

I recently hooked up my wave. The sound is to my liking.

Pioneer HU 50wattx4

Two 4" speakers( with tweeter in the middle of each speaker).

Two 5" speakers(wired parellel to get 2ohms, to act as low bass woofer)

Givi33 box drilled with four holes for the speakers.

4" speaker firing at my back while riding position.

5" speakers firing at the floor(hole drilled on bottom of givi box)

Sound quality is good for music with little base...like Enya, marksim, chinese songs.

I am in the process of hooking up a Kicker8" woofer, installed in a special made wooden enclosure(from furniture shop, those contractor that do house kitchen cabinet will be able to fabricate one for you for some $$$). Which fit exactly in the basket inbetween my legs. Made some bracket to chain it down to the bike's frame to prevent theft(chain hidden nicely directly below the basket to the bikes' frame).

Will drive the woofer with a mono amp of about 150watt....need to visit SL to get this last item once I get my salary this month.

Then I think I will be able to enjoy my macdonald's deliver job even more!!

went down sim lim to take a look at the speakers there..

planning to use my box solely for speakers only.. so it'll be two 5" and 2 smaller ones.. total of 4. with a amp (probably 400 or 600w? is it enough) and a spare batt in my u box.

anyone know where else can i take a look at other options other than sim lim tower?

oh ya, the aunty recommended me this kicker speakers.. 5" ones.. costs around 70 or 80+.. worth it? any brands that i can look out for for both speakers and amp..

and lastly, 4 speakers should use 4 channel amp right? some amps got built in equalizer is it? or should i get a separate equalizer?

200W is more than enough.... 400-600.... wait u blast one time your bike dead. batt flat liao.

so for 4 speakers, a 200W amp is sufficient? what's the max that i can go? i've got the mentality that bigger is better. lol!

and do you have the answer to my other questions? tried pm-ing you but no reply..

thanks alot for answering my audio queries.. most probably going to do up the system this coming week when i'm off. but i only know of sim lim tower.. any other places i can try my luck at?

edit: oh ya i'll be using a separate batt in my u box.. hopefully it won't run out that soon. and i'm going to be using the system usually on weekends only.. weekdays i ride without box.. with my raincoat stuffed in the u box :D
