i got do research on it before last april

i will quote from my blog

1st part

A) Republic of Singapore Flying Club

http://www.singaporeflyingclub.com/

The cost is about S$20,000 to S$30,000. This amount will cover the flight training, ground school and books that are required during training. FREAKING EXPENSIVE! It is definitely a no-no since I do not have the amount of cash. Unless my dad sponsors me again.

B) Elite Flying Club(Malaysia)

http://www.eliteflyingclub.com/

Cost including transportation to Sultan Ismail International Airport will be S$10,000 to S$12,000.

C) Johor Flying Club(Malaysia)

http://www.johorflyingclub.com/

Cost including transportation to Senai Airport will be S$9,500 to S$11,500.

As you can see, getting a PPL privately is definitely not cheap. After getting PPL, I would still need to fly couple hundreds of hours to get a Commercial Pilot License(CPL) with Instrument Rating(IR). Only then, can I fly as a career. The next step after this would be Airline Transport Pilot License(ATPL). This requires an additional 1,500 hours of flying. With ATPL, I can then legally command an aircraft.

2nd part

4a) Apply for Cadet Pilot program under SIA. This program's takes in suitable candidates with no flying experience and turns them into fully trained pilots, CPL and IR. This is fully sponsored by SIA and during the training, they even pay me. Of course, if I complete the whole training, I will need to serve SIA for a period of 7 years. Many people dislike the notion of signing a bond but to me, I see it as a confirmed employment with SIA for 10 years(3 years of training and 7 years bond).

4b) If SIA does not select me(I hope that is not the case) then I will be in deep sh*t. Have not really thought about this path, but I will most probably get a job as a flight instructor at some flying college or as a charter pilot to get my required flying hours. Then apply to the various airlines as a Direct Entry Pilot.

basically, the steps to becoming a Captain self funded is as follows

1)Get a PPL(Private Pilot License) from 1 of the 3 schools above(closest to SG)

2a)Accquire 150 flying hours and apply for CPL(Commercial Pilot License)

2b)Apply for IR(Instrument Rating). This step is whereby you fly to a location and land purely by looking at your instruments, not by visually looking out of the cockpit. The tricky part is landing without looking visually at the runway :) Need to do this in case next time heavy rain, no visibility, you can still land.

3)At this stage, you can apply to be co-pilot. But if you do a simple search, you will realise very little airlines hire co-pilot. They hire Captains. Co-pilots come from their own training programme. Accquire another 1500 flying hours and you can apply for ATPL(Airline Transport Pilot License).

4)With ATPL, you can apply to the various airlines as a Direct Entry Pilot.

***You can gain flying hours by being a flying instructor or by becoming a charter pilot. You will most likely be based overseas***

Good luck.

for people who are interested in flying as a career, I strongly recommend you read this. It is very informative.

Well, you might not know whether you are really suited for pilot training.

Another safest method is to buy the DVD from http://www.sportys.com/courses/ first.

Try the DVD courses first before you really want to sink you money into pilots training.

My set is for Private Pilot & Helicoptor Flying Training. You might want to borrow from me first?

With Instrument Rating, u still need to be able to see the runway at a certain point.

Anyway, forget about going the lone way la, its way too expensive and nearly impossible to clock the thousands of hours needed by airlines.

But if you just want a PPL to fly for fun, u might want to try flying schols based in malaysia, they welcome singaporeans and its much cheaper too. The license can also be used in SG one.

for sale :

rotax 122 clutch basket - very low wear, see to believe!

25 piece cdr - brand new $8

hey... i'm a pilot...

i always fly people aeroplane :cheeky:

ok its a mindless post, but zod has most of the info right.

apply to sia, check out their website.

singaporeans min 25 (ie. pass 25 yr old bday).

min 2A and 2O in A level or

poly diploma or

uni degree

mika14: chopping rate dunno. depends on performance.

getting in? depends on 2 test.

psychomotor test: where u play something like a boring computer game using ur hands (joystick) and legs (peddle). move a square to encircle a circle.

logic test: many many many different tests (computer). some eg. a series of numbers/alphabets r shown, u memorise, they disappear and u type it out. others r like a following instructions and coordinates and answering the right location.

SAF pilots are not allowed to ride. It's an offence.

SIA pilots are allowed.

Hello!

RSAF pilots are discouraged to ride especially when they are trainees who have not yet winged.

SIA trainee or cadet pilots can ride?
