mika14: chopping rate dunno. depends on performance.

getting in? depends on 2 test.

psychomotor test: where u play something like a boring computer game using ur hands (joystick) and legs (peddle). move a square to encircle a circle.

logic test: many many many different tests (computer). some eg. a series of numbers/alphabets r shown, u memorise, they disappear and u type it out. others r like a following instructions and coordinates and answering the right location.

Hi Floppy...

sounds like you really did went thru the interview.

Which course are u in? (just curious...)

Hello!

RSAF pilots are discouraged to ride especially when they are trainees who have not yet winged.

SIA trainee or cadet pilots can ride?

yup. SIA cadet pilots are allowed to ride.

However, he got to realise that if anything happens to him, it'll definitely affect his training and will surely jeapodise his entire career path.

i went to many interviews, but never for pilot

i have enough pilot friends, so i know what to expect

oh... other than pilot, there's another job which u have to sit thru the same test (or similar) - air traffic controller. i did went for this test (being good in maths and science and logic and analyse helps) & interview and was offered a job, but didn't take it up. the only perk i like abt that job, they offer to pay for ur private pilot licence (how many actually got it, i dunno).

Singapore, Australia & Malaysian Private Pilots Licence is valid for a year. To qualify for the next year, you need to clock certain flying hours this year.

For USA, the PPL is for life.

If you do it full time: Minimum 3 months. 4 months are recommended instead.

Estimated cost: USD10K for the Course, not including your daily expenses.

Because that time my friend went for cadet training. And his officers told him if they are found riding, they will be charged.

Maybe officer talk bull? :gun:

A PPL is basically useless unless you are flying for leisure.

For me, sending application to a uni to do a intergrated flying course with degree.

Nope. However, they might be able to skip some part of the training.

For example, if the RSAF guy has a lot of jet hours, then he might be able to skip the jet training phase.

hi interesting post. i myself had ambitions and did some homework on taking up this career path. alas money is always a major factor. apart from the money and time, it is IMPORTANT to note that for sporeans and PRs... if u want to fly for SQ, your PPL HAS to be done in singapore. this was what i found at CAAS website under foreign conversion.

in short, spore dun want citizens to go ovseas take shortcut course come bk and fly their national carrier. so if u wanna take the route ovseas, fine but dun dream of flying SQ. unless u switch nationality.

u must need a CPL+ instrument rating to fly commercial jet instead of PPL.

and under sia website, you do not need flying experience to join as cadet pilot, but ppl would be an advantage. The CPL+IR which sia cadet pilots get is from australia.

yeah i agree with you your second para, first priority would give to their cadet pilots.. that's why they didn't advetise for first officer but captains..

well yes but PPL is like the minimum before u can take CPL+IR and then ATPL... so in a sense... if u have taken PPL elsewhere other than the Spore Flying College (have a website but i forgot the url)... its deemed by CAAS as not competent enough for SQ. crap really since airlines will still train the cadets for CPL and then ATPL so it makes no sense at all. still comes back to... "feed ur money here or else f*rk off" heh. nice country :D

even conversion needs a theory exam... kinda like Basic Theory Test...

3.11 I have a valid foreign PPL. I will be staying in Singapore for a long period of time and wish to convert it to a Singapore equivalent in order to fly a Singapore registered aircraft here. How can I do that?

We will consider converting your valid foreign PPL to a Singapore PPL. You will be required to :-

i) Produce the original and photocopies of your foreign licence, medical certificate, flight radiotelephony operator licence, flying logbook and other supporting documents to the Airworthiness/Flight Operations Division for verification purposes

ii) Pass a Singapore Class 2 initial medical with a CAAS DME

iii) Prepare a Singapore crossed cheque/money order/cashier's order of $28 made payable to CAAS for initial issue of a Student Pilot Licence (you will be required to initially hold a Student Pilot Licence whilst under training for the issue of a PPL)

iv) Pass the Aviation Law, Flight Rules & Procedures paper

v) Pass the Human Performance & Limitations paper (if you have not sat for this examination or its equivalent before) vi) pass the aircraft rating flight test

3.15 If I wish to obtain a foreign CPL by undergoing a full CPL flying training overseas, are there flying schools overseas which are approved by CAAS?

There are no flying schools overseas approved for the CPL flying training except for the Singapore Flying College, a flying unit based in Jandakot, Perth. However we have an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Massey University School of Aviation in New Zealand to allow Singaporeans to undergo a 3 year Bachelor of Aviation Degree course and upon completion, obtain a New Zealand Commercial Pilot Licence. We may consider converting the New Zealand licence to the Singapore equivalent.

For further information on this course, you may wish to contact the New Zealand Trade & Development Board (TDB) in Singapore at tel. no. 7387453.

moccajava,

can enlighten me, y u say money is a major factor?

Posted

well its pricey definitely. the cost of a per hour of flight lesson is $300 or somthing in the 3-digit range lah. so if u need to clock say 100 hours... that's already about 30k. and that's just a restricted PPL to fly in spore airspace only. so imagine if u need to complete up to at least CPL level... small wonder pilots are bonded bcoz of the amount spent in training. and i dunno if u need to clock so-so hours a year in order to renew the following year???

icic. so u were referring to taking it privately. yah that would be pricey.

best bet would be to apply for SIA. 7yrs bond after becoming a FO. but then again, alot of jobs have bonds, so its pretty normal.
