Haha you got my page.

Thanks for the input on the additional contender. Shall look into it as well.

Basically what I want from this camera is...

Dun wan to be too big (S100FS is too big)

A bit of zoom for versatility (LX3 only 5X, good for close, not good else)

Noise control at higher ISO

Can sneak into concerts

Would be good with low light photo taking (which is a common ire for many i think)

Of cos colours must be nice la, red must be red and not orange.

BTW, which one would you suggest that can comply with the above conditions of mine?

yup.. now i got a better sense if ya requirments

quick 2 cents to Panasonic TZ7

zoom 12x zoom (25-300mm)

megapixel 10MP (45 MP/cm²) - wide screen available 16:9

weight 229g

aperture F3.3 - F4.9

video 1280 x 720 stereo 30 fps stereo sound and full optical zoom capability

continuous shooting mode 2.3 fps, 5 images (10 fps at 3mp)

clean at iso 200 (higher better)

lens-shift image stabilisation system

sharp centre, corners reasonably sharp with good chromatic aberration control

li-ion battery

http://www.trustedreviews.com/digital-cameras/review/2009/03/21/Panasonic-Lumix-DMC-TZ7/p6

comparing the exact same pic to the rest as above,

picture quality lose out slightly compared to nikon and canon however

wins flat in terms of form factor and ease of use.

panasonic uses a respectable leica lens that produce generally good pictures.

this is a compact camera, although it has a 12x zoom, the lack of a proper grip and manual controls may result in blur/shaky photos when you zoomed out.. just have to take note of this

built - tz7 has a solid metal built.. same as my samsung something which i simply love it so much. large 3" and twice (460k pixel) lcd

battery - common problem with p&s is battery life.. being small, fairly limited.. usually new can last you perhaps 300 shots.. with mixture of flash.. just remember to charge it b4 using it and you are generally safe. otherwise can just get a 3rd party batt

conclusion - this is really a point and shoot cam vs prosumer (slr-like) camera than those above. as the name suggest, really point and shoot.. no need to worry abt whatever manual functions or settings like aperture and shutter speed.. good enough for daily use and nice to carry everywhere.

if you are particular on form factor, then this is the one for you. quite hard to get a super zoom with a small factor coz need somewhere to hide the lens..

better than avg video recording mode, if it matters...

low light control are just ok.. due to the smaller aperture, you tent to bump the iso higher for the same image, and noise are visible at iso 400 viewing at 100%. BUT i dun think so visble if you just gonna print 4r.. or resize on computer to smaller pic down from the 10mp.

colors and sharpness is typical of what a leica lens can produce

if you think this fits all your requirment but worry bit about the noise..

just spend more time behind your computer to batch edit loh.. theres a s/w called noise ninja which does a very good job on cleaning up noise.. otherwise there is the old trusty photo-diam :)

3Q, now my choices are left with

1. Canon SX10 IS

2. Panasonic Lumix TZ7

Now it's so much easier to decide.

By the way, which camera is good for low light?

My Rides:

LuLu, Piaggio Gilera Runner FXR 180 (Feb05-Aug05)

PhanPhan, Honda Phantom TA 200 (Aug05-July07)

Low light for P&S market used to be fuji F31fd

The latest along the same series is fuji F200EXR.. respectiable noise control up to 800. very usable till 400.

you might wanna check out user review @ clubs*ap over the other side. User reviews are always the best

i have personally handled the much older model f31 and really its damn solid for high iso, low noise

Yes way,

Looking at pictures on computer screens made a lot of difference between richness of colours.

Fujifilm thrash all btw. if the S100FS aint so big I also wont need so headache.

At least give me a 12x zoom. like the Panasonic TZ7.

I didn't check out the specs, was it a low end model vs the high end olym? :giddy:

apple for apple

P90 vs 590UZ.

if they made a low end for the prosumer market then can't blame them then, right?

Think Nikon will still beat Olympus in the picture but it might lose out in user friendly modes. Now you're with Canon and panasonic as choices. Both are sufficient, whats the market rate like?

Posted

i am a fujifinepix fan myself...

bought S9500...3 years ago, and never regretted it.

the newer models are very compact and small...smaller than the palm..$365...thinlk of adding that to my dry cabinet.S1500... compact prosumer camera.

12x zoom, 10mp...take a look..the price i just so tempting

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time:dot:

Am looking at the Panasonic TZ7 now. After so much reading and finding out and asking, not as bulky as the Canon makes it a better choice.

Range for the above are about 600-800

Yes man! You're the pro camera here in our PK.

CS, I wanna ask you the brother of camera. VIDEO CAMERA.

These are what I wanted:

- Cheap

- Capture decent video while riding daily. ( Night time optional )

- Able to record at least 30mins of recording.

- It have to be small

I hesitate to pay for a Creative Vado less than 300 just to film my ride.

I bump to this thread here http://www.singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=237725&page=2&highlight=creative+vado

I use my lousy cell and record, it aim the ground instead. Heh heh.

Learning how to ride upright position.

Any recommend for these cheapo devices?

Cheers!
