I think its a spray. The best is if you can get the air brush kind of spray gun. The one which uses compressed air. Borrow from a friend or something.

The consistency is far superior to spray cans which tend to shoot out blobs of paint.

Personally I wouldn't DIY. I got mine done at a bike shop, its perfect. No cracking etc after a year. Still looks fantastic!

i sprayed the whole bike myself. sanded down everything part by part and also in between layers. took me 25 hours in total from dismantling to assemblying everything. BUT i find that the difference between shop and DIY spray is that once the lacquer gets in contact with petrol, (especially the tank), the lacquer wears off. i think this is because the lacquer needs to be lightly sanded down with 1500 grit and after that buffed with a buffing machine. is this true? anyone has tips?

Car/bike paint is polyurethane paint (PU paint). It is uv and petrol resistant but don't expect to soak and expect nothing happening.

Spray can paint is usually enamel paint, not that resistant.

Note that you can't mix paint types. PU paint will melt most and plastic. For plastics, you'll need a base coat or a water based formulation.

By the way, if you're spraying PU paint, make sure you have proper masks, pressure respirators are the recommended and body should be covered, not the time for barebody show. The stuff is known to cause skin, kidney, liver issues.
