Does anyone knows what might happen if the harddisk is very noisy?

Is it a sympton that the harddisk will crash?

definitely a warning it will crash anytime ; all data will be lost.

If it's an IBM-brand hard disk, chances are, these drives click louder than the rest of the brands.

Back to the topic, yes, it's normal for a hard drive to click away, but if your drive begin to exhibit additional weird noises that happen every 5 seconds or so -- such as loud clicks, squeaks, or short screeches --

your data is slowly being eaten up by that faulty hard drive

Keep ya fingers crossed as you transfer all the files to a second hard drive...personally, I've had that happen to me and I had frustrating times as well because of that

Give your comp one week.

If the worrying sounds don't come back, then it's safe to say that the "harddisk is very noisy" symptom was just a defragmentation problem -- a lot of data scattered across your hard disk as you use your computer for months without cleanup.

If you get symptoms such as file corruption (un-recoverable errors when you open 1 or more of your favourite files), or your computer blue-screen's itself, or if the operating system takes too long to load, or even hangs at some parts, you can start shopping for a new hard drive...

Thanks a lot bro. Hope its the first paragraph problem. Anyway does defragging help removes the sound if it is really scattered date problem?

Somewhat...but I'm hoping that a computer scientist would verify this claim ;)
