My timing for my GSR has been inconsistent and when i open throttle and let go the timing will drop or engine will die, if i open throttle harder it will rise to 2000 rpm and then fall again below 1k rpm, and theres a "chain sound" coming from the front, intend to go to planet and see if they could confirm this fault, cause the other shop qoute me around 500 for timing chain replacement. =[

Check your brake pad to see if they have worn off already. It is normal to hear squeaking sound if you brake a little too hard and when your brake disc has water or brake dust from the brake pad. I assume the squeaking sound may be caused by the abrasion sound caused by the brake pad and the brake disc. Quite similar when our fingers are damp and try to press hard and drag across on a glass surface.. making the squeaky sound.

On other hand, if you have just changed a new brake pad... it can also caused this squeaking sound... because it is new and requires some grinding off the new surface of the brake pad...

Always check the amount of brake pad you have left... if it has become worn off, please go change it... or else when it is totally gone, the caliper "teeth" will grind the brake disc and cause damage to it and potentially generate heat which can warp the whole brake disc. (it happened to my previous bike Phantom... got to change the whole brake disc which is about 3x more than the brake disc)

Sorry. I iignorant about this. Our bike got timing chain like car timing belt? How much and how long can it last? TY

Best is to go to another bike shop for second opinion. I was once told by one bike shop that my timing chain is off too... but I went to another bike shop and they told me it was fine. I took the risk and didn't change, the bike is still able to bring me to Thailand and back.

However, it is a serious issue if your timing chain is loose or wear off... so, better to get it fix or else if it broke, the damage will be even more $$$.

I don't own a car, so I am not sure what is a car timing belt. However, I do believe most bikes have timing chain which controls the timing of the engine valves.

Quote from a source:

Timing chain must be replaced at the manufacturer's recommended distance and/or time periods. Failure to replace the chain can result in complete breakdown or catastrophic engine failure. The owner's manual maintenance schedule is the source of timing chain replacement intervals, typically every 60,000 to 90,000 miles (approx 96,000 to 144,000 kilometres). It is common to replace the timing belt tensioner at the same time as the belt is replaced.

I do not have the service manual anymore, so I cannot check the exact manufacturer's recommendation for you.

Or

if you hear loud ticking sound on your right side of your engine when your engine is on... something like a loose chain running... (I tried to search a video of an engine with ticking sound... this is the closest video to the ticking sound although it is not a GSR:

)

this is abit loud, our bike will be so loud?

Yes, don't be fooled by our engine. Suzuki engine is a rough engine... at first I thought mine has the ticking problem as well... but upon listening to the engine sound closely.. it doesn't sound like ticking sound or loose chain ... so I continued to ride it and there is no problem at all... even go to top speed 200++km/h also no problem.

I have no first hand experience of hearing a real ticking sound from GSR400, so that is why I chose to find a video which has close resemblance of a ticking sound that sounded like a loose chain... But I believe if a GSR has the timing chain problem.. the ticking sound will surely be very audible... try to listen to your engine sound everytime you turn on the engine... get familiar with the engine sound... if one day, it sounded different... with *tick* *tick* sound louder on the right side... then it could be the timing chain and the tensioner...

Since doing one piece is not cost effective for me and the sole user, would anyone of you be interested as well in the above?

markopolo and mat_sp has shown interest in the fabrication with markopolo kind enough to donate his bike for me to use for the fabrication
