Rae07,

Yep... I have tried doing it myself.. prety easy really...

When the manual says to remove screws in order... it really means that you have to undo the cylinder head slowly and evenly...

Ever change a wheel before? Same principal...

Losen the bolts a little at a time going in the pattern shown in the manual. First top left, then bottom left, then top right, then bottom right... (or something like that....)

After you get the bolts off you can remove the cylinder head and clean the piston... Use something plastic (like a spatula) to scrape the crud off the piston (I didn't get mine sparkling clean... just cleanish...) The cylinder head you can take upstairs and get to with some sand paper... (not too coarse... like 100 grit or so...) Scrub at it until all the carbon is gone...

Buy some liquid gasket sealer (red tube) (I forget the brand) from a hardware shop and smear some on the cylinder head when you put it back on the cylinder...

Took me about 40mins...

You can also try giving your carb a clean... buy some carb cleaner from carrfour (only plaza sing outlet stocks it...) Just be careful when tightening the carb down when you're done... too tight and you'll warp the carb. (best buy yourself a torque wrench...)

but sharpey, i've done my research and everythin. i think it's not advisable to change to a si24/24 carb on a stock pipe. it's as if u're using a plasma dash tamiya engine on a sony battery.

so i guess i'll be changing my pipe first.

but the qns is, what pipe is good and reliable and where can i get it? does thong aik have it?

rocket1>> i'm afraid my choice of colour will be the same as u man... better not let u see my scoot after i respray it, tink i will get it done after nov..damn busy with sch now =(

eh machine don't lah ... :faint:

I recommend olive green... very nice, very retro. It was my second choice, but a very close second I must add.

If you re-upholster the seats with brown leather, she will look like a dream.

You're absolutely right... The pipe is more important....

The problem is that that's the biggest limitation here in Singapore...

You can easily buy a "tong pipe" either from Tong AIk.... or Ban Hoe Leong in Jln Besar plaza (he has lots of stock...) Cost wise am unsure...

Alternatively, if your current pipe is in ok condition, you can pay to have it tonged...

Getting in an exhaust from overseas is going to be expensive... and possibily not possible (unless you get LTA approval...)

It is possible to bring in an exhaust and get it approved by LTA... UnSith did so for his GT200 (look for him in the other vespa thread...) It will require you giving the LTA lots of documentation about the pipe, like test results etc... the pipe must have an "e rating" also...

Good options include

Sito Plus (like stock... just a bit gruntier...)

Simonini (expansion chamber... big, noisy, cheap...)

JL lefthand or right hand (damn good, but not cheap.)

Good luck :-)

thx sharpey for detailed guide. will try it during my term break. ;)

btw..one noob question abt those carb cleaning solution. will they react differently on 2strokes? since most are formulated for cars.

Hi Rae... No idea about the way it'll behave... but then, a cleaner is a cleaner... I don't think it matters...

Marciano... if you have a new px150 it will have a cat pipe... If your px150 is older, it won't... What year is yours??

Tong Aik do stock these "tong pipes"... but Ban Hoe Leong have more choice...

My scooters are PX200Disc darlings.... Any less than a 200 is too small for my arse.

Cheers.

i've tot of olive green n brown seats, somehow seems to look abit like the lx stock colour uh?

btw, double seaters can be rewraped? for how much?

thanks thanks

the LX stock is a bit metallic. the olive green you want to go for is a duller and darker sort of army fatigue green.

and I think you can pretty much re-upholster anything. There's a shop at Bendemeer which I think is a bit cheaper than the Jalan Besar ones.

He basically unscrews your seat and puts it on a work bench and cuts out the appropriate panels of leather (synthetic) and sews / glues it on after ripping out the old up-holstery. Takes about 30 - 40 mins if there is no one else there.

Awwww another weird problem with my scoot.

I had problems starting the engine last nite. Basically i started and was moving off but gear 1 is very under-powered.... so i switched to neutral n cruise to a stop (and the engine died b4 i stopped fully) :giddy: i assumed its because i din let it warm up long enuf?

Tried starting it again after waiting for like 10 odd minutes to no avail so i just pushed it back my place n let it 'rest' for the nite.

I nvr had problem starting the engines b4.... i dun even need to tilt the scoot.... just pull the air-choke n kick..... VROOOM! But this monring round 8.30am, same thing.... no response... the engine tried to start but just dun start. Still trying to start it even now; no success though

I tried tiliting it, with / without air-choke but engine simply dun connect.

Any suggestions i can use b4 i call up a tow service :sian:

I have the same problem... she couldn't start this morning as well.

the only thing I did recently was change the spark plug (but the spark plug I used was a spare one (but still new though) I had in the side box for 6 months

maybe that's the problem =)

Perfecto~~~ After much help from both machine_k & rae, finally uncovered the root of the problem : faulty spark plug, n not CDI or wiring problems!

Phewz... tat was a relief..... save me a bundle form potential tow charges again!!!

Hmmmm the spark plug was totally ok-looking n new as well (

You won't have a catlyised pipe then... Yours will be what is known as a "non cat" stock pipe... If it is in good condition (not too much rust...) you can pay to have it operated on ("tong" as they say).... This is probably the best option for a moderate performance gain...

If you need a new one, you can buy a ready operated one from Ban Hoe Leong (Jln Besar Plaza)... or possibly a second hand operated one from Mdm Soh at T.A.... Ask.

You can't buy a sito+ or any of the other aftermarket pipes in singapore.... Bummer!

You can try to import from overseas...

800 dollars for a disk brake fork... maybe a bit much... The disk brake is really SOOOOOO (excuse the caps) much better... You can actually stop the scoot with confidence. Ask around and see if someone can look out for a disk brake fork for you (the forks are essentially identical [disk vs drum] it's just the hub that is different)

p.s... if you're feeling daring... you could give this one a go... seller has been selling it for ever on yahoo auctions (chances are its not road legal here though) SIP stuff is very good... and Jim Lomas is the exhaust guru....
