Yup, worn shifting cross.... time for an engine rebuild I'm afraid Hanzer... I shall shamelessly promote Tong Aik here... Wee or Chong will do a proper job and use original parts (unless you specify that they use cheaper indo parts)... Expect to pay upto $400 (depending on what else needs to be changed)...

Yes, its alot of money, and yes you "could" spend less and just have the shifting cross changed. BUT given that the engine needs to be opened up to change the shifting cross, you may as well change other parts like seals and bearings (designed to wear out) and have the gears and crank etc inspected (designed not to wear out).

Once you've spent the money, you will know that your engine is in the best possible condition it can be in. If you're lucky you'll have an engine that is "as good as new" but this depends how well the previous owner looked after it.

It is most definitely money well spent.

If you bought the scoot in this condition, the seller should have told you that this was an issue with it... (I'm not saying shop A is good and shop B is bad... all shops will have sold scoots with engine issues at one time or another. The onus is on the buyer to know what to check before selling, not on the seller).

That's kind of why the wiki is there.... and why people new to scootering should read it.... and why folks with experience of stuff like this should contribute to it....

sharpey....any goodies from UK??

hanzer hanzer...well, take it slow ya?no sense in rushing....

what u have to be sure is that your scoot is in good condition that it wont cause hurt or unnecessary frustration to u

-= Unsure of what to get=-

No goodies... no money to buy... no time to go to shops (all are up north, am I'm in the south west)...

Oh well..

Hanzer, yeah, maybe its something else... maybe a misadjusted gear cable or something... Hmmm.... there definitely IS a problem... just hope its a minor one.
