yeah thats the thing got rid of my px fork. but it only seem that mine is super soft as compared to my other bike and the bike red's riding now. Will see wat i can do to it when the holidays come.

I think u can start an exclusive retailer for import stuff. u are experienced. wonder if u mind sharing the shipping cost. Order together and split the cost of shipping. hehe. Save cost gst rising again...

Oh well i kindda give up on the gear ratio. maybe the next time i overhaul tne engine might wanna try putting 200cc gear cluster and gear. then see got any diff :cheeky:

Maz,

if there was a big enough market interested in making their scooters ride well (instead of just look good ) then I'd quit my day job...

Shipping cost was minimal since the parts are small and lightweight... max max 20 dollars if I remember right...

Also bought his stiff rear spring... but haven't tested it out yet...

If you really want to keep the old fork (3 legged ones are dive happy and unsafe if you ask me) then get a new absorber... Gabriel seem to be the best choice... they're also pretty cheap and available locally (made in India I think...) People with 3legged forks tend to use Gabrial shocks overseas from what I have seen...

The best thing you can do (IMHO) to improve ride quality and stability at the front of the scoot is to get an old px fork and a new pxdisc front shock (made by sebac for piaggio) This is easily the best stock front shock that the company ever produced for the px....

Don't do it :-)

For the money you'll end up spending you'll have spent enough to afford a real one....

i can tell you it is going to cost a lot more than you think...

Modifying the outlook is one thing, nose/handle/cowl/overall chasis... that one is easy to quantify, but when it comes to the small small nitty gritty details, like the badges, the chrome, the linings... a lot of $ 5-20 adds up to a huge sum.

Prepare to dig deep in your pockets, and after all that you have spent, it is still an excel in the log card. Sharpey is right to say it might cost roughly the same as a real deal...

then again...i'm riding a makeover vespa..haha so :cheeky:

tks for the fast response, guys.

but this bike has some sentimental value therefore the need to restore it. However, i dun intend to spend so much. What do guys, rec i do? Appreaciate if you can go into specifics. And what about parts? Where do you normally get them?

First thing first, have the excel gone for a restoration b4? Is it still in stock condition as in the square headlight and the square rear? its actually up to personal preference actually. preferably u would want to specify what u want to change then its easier for us to give u some input.

handle bar got a few choices: Px, super, sprint, ultraman. Recommended the px. the rest very expensive. 100+ and above not inclusive of installation.

fork. Stick to the one u have. The 3 legged fork isnt that stable as sharpey say and again its 100+ for juz the fork no installation.

Mudguard: u can change to sprint of super. Can get second hand from tong aik

Side cowl: u can stick with the current one unless u dont like em and can find the classic ones. Note u if change to classic cowl must go welding. I did mine inclusive of making the rear not squarish in all 300. Done at ah kau

tail light: go tong aik or the shop at waterloo or ban hoe see wat u like.

Horn cast: a classic one cost abt 80. i think there is someone selling it a yahoo auction. But a chrome normal one werks juz nice and no need to weld

Seat: u have to get a new seat if u decide to remove the squarish rear as the stock seat is longer. tong aik has 2nd hand prob ard 15-30. need to rewrap after that.

And lastly: with all the welding marks u have to do paint werk. I neva paint here so i dont know the price

Ok that abt all that i can remember. all stuff can get from tong aik, shop at waterloo, ban hoe. If u want just send to worshop like ah joo or abg jas at jln besar, tong aik they can settle for u.go ard and ask them for quote. 2nd hand stuffs can get from tong aik or probably from some of us here. Ok thats abt all i have.

Cheers, juz my 2 cents worth of advice.

good tips maz....

Bear in mind, also that the sprint/super mudguard won't fit properly on a px/excel style fork... you'll need to mod it to fit... needs some cutting and welding... not a huge job... (search scooterbbs.com for pics...)

hey maz...this abg jas' u mentioned...it's operated by a malay guy? where's the shop? heard abt him but ppl i've asked got no idea exactly where it is.

anyway..like to ask, it is normal to have greater vibration(esp ard handle area) when u have a through/'tong' pipe?

Posted

I juz got back from abg jas shop juz now. Ya hes a malay guy. the shop at jalan besar. opposite stadium. Opposite ica building. turn left before the juction going to sims. go straight the shop on the right. it onli open in the evening till like 3 am. name of shop roda dua or roda link if i not wrong.

so far i use the tong pipe the vibration not as bad as a broken pipe. i guess its juz normal ah the vibration. if the vibration is really bad at high speed check ur pipe for any failing parts.espesically the welded joint for breakage. else u try tightening the nut that attach the pipe to frame. use size 14. see got any diff or not.

I do have a Sprint header that I might wanna sell off, interested?

PM me if you are interested...

Rather than let go to the bike shop, i can sell it to you at a cheaper rate....but of course...i cant mount it for you....

for the rest, if you are interested, let me know...

BTW, does anyone know how much shops charge for a sprint header(without labour)?

Hey Maz,

For the gearing...

It depends on whether you are in for the power (pickup) or distance...gotto tackle all the gear ratio thingy...compression plays apart.....for me i just let the expert (machanic) to do this part for me cos it is heaps of work and need experience to do so...

Hi Sharpey,

For the Gabriel shock absorber, are they selling in singapore? Cost? or do we need to import?

Do you know what kinda of shock absorber tong aik is using?

Wah u know abg rahim ah. cool! hes a nice chap. did paint job with him before. 2 tone mettallic red and pearl white he charge me RM600. reasonable but not really excellent finishing but gd cos he doesnt have an oven room. if u not really petty it should be fine. be prepared to wait ah if its rainy season and if a jamboree is coming up. can take up to 3 weeks.

The shop is beside the main road but not visible cos its lower than the road. haha took me an hour to find it. i guess there other shops.one of two more which i've heard but neva try to find.

Mitsui insurance tel no. 62946259, 62965445.

That is the Beach Road branch at Golden Mile Complex. Give them a call during office hours for a quotation, definitely less than what NTUC charges.

Usually no queue there so you can settle yours very quickly...but FYI if you terminate ur NTUC policy early (forgot less than how many mths) you will forfeit 15% of the reimbursement. Do your calculations first bah...

And also... Mitsui's phone operators not very friendly/polite. So you don't have to sound nice to them in any way..haha

Hi Hippo,

For insurance, you can call NTUC at 67885255 & Mitsui at 63373133 during office hour for a quote....

I just got my insurance quote from Mitsui & NTUC 2 weeks ago....

Mitsui quoted me about S$155(without NCD) and NTUC about S$156(with NCD)...

I went ahead with getting my insurance with Mitsui since it is slightly cheaper plus if I sell off my current bike, they are able to refund me my 10% NCD from NTUC...

They will mainly qoute you based on the following criteria:

- Your Age

- Your Bikes Age

I saw a chart/table that they use and charged me based on that.....

Also, for those people out there who are planning to get a above 30yrs old Vespa and intending to get your first insurance from Mitsui for that bike, they won't accept first time insurance buyers for scoots above 30. pls take note....

Hope the above helped!!!

Cheers Mate!
