First thing first, have the excel gone for a restoration b4? Is it still in stock condition as in the square headlight and the square rear? its actually up to personal preference actually. preferably u would want to specify what u want to change then its easier for us to give u some input.

handle bar got a few choices: Px, super, sprint, ultraman. Recommended the px. the rest very expensive. 100+ and above not inclusive of installation.

fork. Stick to the one u have. The 3 legged fork isnt that stable as sharpey say and again its 100+ for juz the fork no installation.

Mudguard: u can change to sprint of super. Can get second hand from tong aik

Side cowl: u can stick with the current one unless u dont like em and can find the classic ones. Note u if change to classic cowl must go welding. I did mine inclusive of making the rear not squarish in all 300. Done at ah kau

tail light: go tong aik or the shop at waterloo or ban hoe see wat u like.

Horn cast: a classic one cost abt 80. i think there is someone selling it a yahoo auction. But a chrome normal one werks juz nice and no need to weld

Seat: u have to get a new seat if u decide to remove the squarish rear as the stock seat is longer. tong aik has 2nd hand prob ard 15-30. need to rewrap after that.

And lastly: with all the welding marks u have to do paint werk. I neva paint here so i dont know the price

Ok that abt all that i can remember. all stuff can get from tong aik, shop at waterloo, ban hoe. If u want just send to worshop like ah joo or abg jas at jln besar, tong aik they can settle for u.go ard and ask them for quote. 2nd hand stuffs can get from tong aik or probably from some of us here. Ok thats abt all i have.

Cheers, juz my 2 cents worth of advice.

Appreciate the tips, man.

Does anyone know how much the sprint header cost at the scooter shop?

I have one that I can let go....so I do not want to over price it.....

Wah the discussion these past couple weeks so techie, i got lost somewhere le

Riding less these days... LOL too many rainy days & wer roads makes riding more dangerous!

btw isit ok to not start the bike for say, 1 or 2 weeks? Asking nicase pop off somewhere for holidays mah  Any potential damage?

I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to death, your right to say it.

where you going for holidays? haha

best go kickstart it once a week bah, let the oil circulate so that it can lubricate and reduce formation of rust and so on.. though even if you leave the bike for a few mths without starting, it will still come to life the next time...

its just that, too long don't start, at most next time maybe harder to start loh...

Posted

it is advisable to start your bike once in a while....

if not riding often, you might wanna just start your bike....running for a while before you switch off....keeps the engine running and lube all the internal parts....

However i once left my scoots in Singapore and go overseas for 3 weeks....but with slight tilt and 1 kick...the engine is up and running....

Do take note to swtich off your fuel valve if you are not riding...

There are people who kepp their tanks filled to prevent rust..........

The above is for classic vespa that does not run on battery...it cannot be said with bigger bikes....

For my other bike (with battery), i will usually disable the connection to the battery....

my 0.002cents worth....

planescape>> planning holidays already? my papers barely started.

anyway..i've left my bike without starting for a month plus. am still able to start. gas' still good. perhaps u may wanna give the bike a lil shake b4 u start..kinda to mix watever 2T tt's settled down below.(as adviced by some riders)

Posted

nah there will be no or minimal damage done to the engine if it is left unstart for a couple of week. there will still be some lubricant left in the engine block and piston to protect the walls. so no worries. but dont let it rot for too long la.

cheers

azahoneystar,

you can align your insurance and road tax to be on the same day....

just call or go to mitsui and extend your insurance to the date your want (i suppose in this case it is 30th June 07)....then when you renew your road tax for the next 6 months, you will have sufficient insurance coverage....

When you go to mitsui, they will quote your a pro-rated insurance premium of your current rate....

Hope the above helps!

Cheers mate!

Finally finished catching up with all the reading in this topic...phew!

Hi Sharpy, my apologies....you were asking me on my scoots last month or so and i didnt reply...

was working my arse off on my project....

yeah....did some stuff on my engine and gearing....to have better pick up...

as for the carbs, was looking at the india made carbs that are 26/26 (in fact is it only 25 point something)...

decided to have my carbs rebuild by TA...

tested my bike on the road last sat....fantastic torque but the exhaust is pulling it back....*Sigh! strict LTA regulation on exhaust*...

Result: gearing is very new hence i had trouble changing gear and have not fully tested on whether the enhanced carbs are improved...will need to season or work things out with TA to get the shifting of gears smooth to fully test my babe....

Will do futher testing on my scoots the next few weeks before it can be fully "on the road"....

As for carb setting, do you change the air corrector?

Or does the Vortec Carbs using a different one?

From my understanding is that the ones on the 24/24 carbs are good enuff...

just need to play around with the main jet and mixture knob.....what main jet are you using?

As for the front shocks, not tested yet....think i still like the 3-legged ones *classic* so if the current shocks aint good enuff, will change the Gabriel ones.....

from what i heard from TA, my back suspension is some tough india suspension...hence i think the back suspension is fine...

Also will start surfing on the web for the exhaust...some of the prices are too expensive...so might just get the best possible exhaust that fits my scoots...for the time being...*grin*

Hey Gweester...

As for the exhaust... bear in mind that it is perfectly legal to import any exhaust that you want to (lovely free trade Singapore )... soooo if you imported one that looked like it was stock.... well you get the picture....

The 24/24 carb should be plenty for a 150, you may well find that the 26G is too much carb for your scoot... Stellastats.com (need free registration) is a good place to see what other 150 owners have setup...

On my 200 I run a 125 main... but you can't compare carb settings on a 200 with a 150...

The Vortex is definately a wise investment... it comes with its own adjustable air corrector (imagine a normal air corrector with a allen bolt screwed into the top...) By turning the allen bolt, you can infitiely adjust the size of the air corrector hole (simple ideas are always the best...)

Exactly what is your setup (kit etc) ?? This would help us get an idea

Very interested to hear how your special gearbox comes along also

Cheers

Hi Sharpey,

Are you using the "tong" exhaust?

The copper ones or you "tong" your previous exhaust?

How's your project scoots coming along?

you intending to install pinasco? doing porting?

Hey Gweester...

I'm using a tong exhaust with a copper pipe on the end... (snet my stock pipe for the tonging and adding of the copper pipe) Runs geat... plenty of torque

As for the project scoot... just completed the second coat of primer... top coat will be going on over the next two weeks.... lots of wetsanding to do in between coats ... will be sweating for at least another month!

I managed to pickup a pinasco on the cheap... woohoo... will be installing on my running scoot... need to get Ah Wee to make a cytlinder head for me though, as the one that comes with the kit is only really usable if running a 60mm crank.... (won't be doing porting or getting a 60mm crank until next rebuild...) Should be pretty torquey once it's finished!

yup me ard the same,

normally will sent for sevice every 3 mths. the shop will help to change new sparkplug, change engine oil, lubricate mechanic parts, check engine condition, basically the whole bike. this whole package will cost ard $45. servicing done at joo chiat rd.

Dude... try asking in the Vintage Vespa thread... Classic Vespa Cafe...

General service of a classic vespa shouldn't cost more than $45

Brakes, not much... the shoes are cheap and it's not a long job (labour wise)...
