hahahaha...

nolah..

i think my fault...

hoping the mechanic opens today.then i'll push the bike to eunos....

hoping someone would diagnose my scoot......

dont even know if i should do an engine rebuild.....

-= Unsure of what to get=-

Posted

how spoilt?? Because you couldn't kickstart??

Don't go rushing for an engine rebuild sooo soon....

If its seized or the crank had failed then you won't be able to start it....

But, do bear in mind that scoots with alloy blocks are harder to kickstart (the compression of the cylinder is much higher which makes it harder to kick...)

Happy new year all

cephelix,

spoilt again?? can't start or spoilt?

your brother is the best person to help you since it is he who pass you the bike...

and he should know the condition of your bike...

itsonfire, i guess your tyre size should be the same as ours (for 10inch tyres)....

i would recommend battalax (most pple here uses them)...it's got better grip...cost about S$35 per tyre....

hey hey guys....

couldn't stand it...

went to ah joo n ask them to tow....

hope they call tommorrow..

hoping to get a quote for the things i want to do to my scoot..

torn between keeping the original sideboxes vs the rounded ones

classic vs mod...

you guys should know...

sharpey > i know those with alloy blocks have harder compression. but this is harder than usual!..normally it takes 1-2 kicks before the scoot comes to life..

but now cant even kickstart..it's like the kickstarter will slip even before the flywheel has a chance to fully turn.....

asking them whether engine just need cleaning or totally cannot make it.

n whether they can give extra sparkplug

gweester > that's the problem, when my brother was riding it, he had no complications...only when i ride then suddenly got alot of problems

all > (1)can help think of a nice colour for my scoot??

(2) those with experience with Ah joo, can tell whether accessories must buy ourselves or can we get fro them?

(3) anybody know where to get cheap accessories? ship from thailand etc??

happy new year guys!!!!

Cepehelix... don't rush man.... Its an easy way to spend too much

If it were me, I'd leave the cosmetic mods till much later, (eg after you've ridden for a while and A) are less likely to fall off and scratch/dent and B) you've had the time to see other peoples scoots and decide what you want.

I'm guessing that the last mech you sent the bike to with the kickstart problem didn't fix it! If indeed your kickstart gear is broken, that's all that will need changing.

Do you know how long it has been since the engine was last rebuilt (meaning the changing of bearings and seals within the engine)?? It might be prudent to get this done also... Bear in mind it will cost though, upwards of $200 Get Ah Joo to have a look and tell you if he thinks a rebuild is necessary now (he'll be able to tell since he'll need to split the engine casings to look at your kickstart gear).

I've yet to find *cheap* accesories... maybe JB???

We can't help you choose a colour... take your time and find out what you like.

I know this is all exciting and frustrating at the same time, just try and take your time and learn as you go along. Eg, stand next to the mechanic at all times when work is being done, and see what exactly is or isn't changed... this way you learn, and avoid any "misunderstandings".

If you want my opinion.... it isn't worth trying to make a PX look more classic than it already is. I'm a firm believer in the PX styling... If you wan't a super or sprint... then go and buy one... You'll save money in the long run, believe me. Your PX will look lovely after a new coat of paint and perhaps some chrome  Just my opinion.

each tyre costs $35

Labour is extra.

Tyres come separte from the rims.

The rims you have now are (I guess) tubed, they use an innertube.

Tubeless tyres can be run on both tubeless AND tubed split rims.

Tubeless tyres as sold by Tong Aik cost $85 each and come pre-fitted with a tyre. The tyre they come with isn't as good as a battalax, but is perfectly ok, and miles better than the old S83's!!!

I'd go tubeless, much much safer. Just remember to check your tyre pressure frequently, it makes your tyres last longer.

thanx sharpey for the advice...

and yeah, the cosmetic changes will cost a bomb...

engine rebuilt?not sure...but i am planning to ask if it's needed when i go down.

okok, maybe "choose" is not the correct word...

more like "thinking of colours that might suit the px"

chrome trimmings, going for that...

n floor strips.....

maybe a champagne gold would look nice?

don't really know....

if the engine needs rebuilding, can they still keep the alloy block n piston?

difference with engine overhaul?

oh, and i know a px looks nice...

just thinking up of ideas...

did you cut vents in you sidebox on the engine side?

i was just thinking that it looks a tad plain.

but maybe after a new coat of paint, i'll have a different outlook eh?

thanx again for the advice...

seeya on the 12th...

-= Unsure of what to get=-

Yes... you can keep the alloy block and piston! Don't let 'em take it from you!

The most you'll need to do to it is put some new piston rings on it. (in alloy cylinders the piston rings wear out over time)

I haven't had experience with Ah Joo... I can though vouch for Ah Wee from Tong Aik, he is patient and does his job well. I'm sure Ah Joo is just as experienced... just giving you options.

A rebuild may be worth it... since after you've done it, you'll know that your scoot will be fine for the next 50-80,000 km. Seals and bearings don't last forever.. they're designed to wear out and be changed. I'd bite the bullet and spend money on important things like this first. Next up should be the disk brake  Be a pioneer

Here's a blog http://www.grimesyvespa.blogspot.com/ where you can see how nicely done up a px can be.. the guy is an Englishman living in Bangkok.. aside from the headlight its a damn sexy px! (you'll notice that he has "frenched" the rear brake light... this is a job for a body modifier... not something you can buy, and definately something a bit different from all the other mod lookalike vespas out there.

saw how he took apart the engine.....

very pro....

he says that my engine is in good condition,no need to rebuild...

when i get my pay, gonna have to change my tyres...

rim + tubeless tyre $90

ok price?

well, after the servicing, kick start once! and the engine came to life...

definately no snags....

but ow quite poor...

dunno how i'm going to eat tommorrow...

but planning to do tyres next kos my fron tyre is going bald in the middle....

let's hope everything can stay together till the 12th....

can't afford anything else

quoted for normal paint job $200....

dunno ok or not...

itsonfire,

per sharpey's reply, $35 is only for the tyre (one only)...labour is another few bucks...think it's $3-$5....but the tyres are pretty easy to change....dont need the shop to do it for you...DIY....save money!!!

I guess yours should be a tubed rims...

just to check, if your rims come in 2 pieces and bolted together with nuts, it gotta be tubed rims...tubeless rims comes in only one piece....

the battalax tyres are tubeless but can be fitted to tube rims as well as what sharpey has mentioned...

cephelix,

so what did AJ do for your scoots? general servicing? new plugs, wash & tune carbs, de-carbonised piston??

yeah....never let the shops take over your alloy kits....

what did AJ say was the problem? kickstarter gear or??

rim + tubeless tyre $90

is the rims tubeless? if so, TA is selling at $85....

if not, what kinda of rims are you getting?

guess you should not be toying with the paint job so soon....you are new to the scoots....ride around more and have experience and adapt to riding your scoots first....

for a start, you can spend more on the internal parts to make the engine running better or smoother b4 you decide on the paint job.....

my front spring can be seen...not covered...

I think you may have seen one of the newer indonesian vespa headsets. Its kind of a big ovalish speedo with lots of dials and lights... These are cool, but not italian cool.... Your choice

We'll have a look at your carb on the 16th... no worries, it'll be easy to explain everything... Nothing is rocket-science on these scoots.

Why do you want to repair your speedo if you might be getting a disk brake in the near future??? If you do, you'll need a new fork and headset (i.e. handlebars) and thus a new speedo....This is because the disk brake lever is different to the old style one, there has to be a place to mount the brakefluid reservoir!!! Don't waste money fixing what you have if you're only going to throw it away soon!

Ditto on the indicator covers... you don't want to buy some that mightn't match your future paint job... eg you buy clear ones and find that they don't look so hot on your new red scoot....

Scootering is like CRACK COCAINE Cephelix.... you gotta do it slowly, otherwise you'll burn up all your money and start having problems talking ... well maybe not the last bit.

We're all Junkies here.... its just a matter of managing the addiction

the meetup is 12th Jan Sharpey...not 16th....

had too much booze over the long weekend?? heehee!!!

cephelix, like what sharpey said, if you intend to change it to the disk brake version, there is no need to do up your speedo and stiffen your spring....

BTW, usually pple don't stiffen the spring, when the spring is soft, we usually change it.....cost about $10+ for the spring...chrome ones are at $18 if i rememeber correctly....

your emphasis should be internal rather than external now...
