But...won't 3rd party be insufficent if people really steal or burn the bike?

TPFT will refund you the full amount of bike money if it's stolen or set fire on?

Simon85 i think your insurance should be cheaper. i had a friend who was 25 and P plate and paid $595 for 3rd party only(not TPFT) for his KR last year. but yet again insurance differs for each other as there are alot of factors that determines the insurance price.

Third party if i'm not wrong...is like when you have an accident, the insurance covers the pillon and the vehicle you gotten into accident with...it doesn't cover you and your bike. The 3rd party involved can claim from you, but you cannot claim for your bike's damages and your injuries.

May I know those which owns a bike...which type of insurance did you all get?

TPFT means Third Party, Fire and Theft. and 3rd party is like what vashie said. it doesnt cover the rider but the other party can claim from you. so even if you are injured or your bike is damaged, you have to fork out the money from your own pocket and pay the expenses as the insurance policy only covers the other party.

i ride a kr and i got 3rd party insurance without fire and theft. i paid $900+ for it. 20 yrs old without P plate. as far as i know KR has the most expensive insurance policy for 2nd hand 2B bikes due to its high accident rate.

Simon85, what you mean was subrider. Unlike a car, a bike insurance is covered under our name and not the vehicle, so even if your dad owns a bike, you are not allowed to ride his bike, unless you add your name as a subrider under his insurance policy. Usually the insurance company will make you pay for the differences in premium plus some admin charges.

what vashie said is right (except for the pillion being covered part that I am not really sure of) about 3rd party.

as for insurance, i am using third party all these years. the different type of insurance is catered for different risk group. assess your own risk level and opt for the policy best suit you.

to some people, they might think that it's better to have it and not need it. and to some, they just opt for the cheapest insurance to save some money, but to me, i am willing to not have it because i see the risk of fire and theft happening to me very low, almost zilch. even if fire and theft occur one day, the difference between the higher premium i paid over the years might be enough to offset my loss cos my bike is a cheapo bike anyway. give me a better reason to convince my parents to let me change a new ride anyway. :p

Hi bro simon,

i believe bro jeethanasim gave you an example of a 3rd party insurance premium.

the price is around 500+- for ur age range. i pay around that sum when i was 22, p-plate. and about 400+- when i am 23, 2a p-plate.

different insurance coy gave different quotes, mine is axa which i considers the cheapest i know so far.

Hmm...I guess you're right on the part about the premium paid over the years exceeds the price of the bike and can be used to buy a new bike.

But...as I'm getting bike for the first time...naturally will have the tendency to be scared that people steal or set fire to my bike! :weep:

So...I'm more inclined to feel safe to get TPFT for the first year. But if the price of the TPFT insurance is almost the same as the bike itself...I think I'll just get 3rd party.

Kawa kr $900+ 3rd party for non P-plate rider really is a lot! Guess I'll have to reconsider getting a kr. Still really want to get a CBR 150 if possible...wonder 2nd hand costs how much. :?

I heard from my friends that they used 3rd party for their 2b bikes..

Only when they upgraded to class 2, den they decided to change to first party..

most people only use first party (comprehensive) insurance on newer bikes or brand new bikes.

for old beat up bikes, i think 3rd party is the most common. the value of the bike isn't high anyway.

aye, AXA allows 3rd party for p plate?

i thought they didnt allow..

it depends on the bike and the age group. just to be on the safe side only NTUC is willing to insure all age group and bikes.
