So... it's still okay to use tubless tires on spoked rims as long as the tube remains inside right? My front rims are the original spokes and are currently fitted with tubeless tires and it doesn't leak.

Unless one of the previous owners had them converted. I wouldn't be suprised given that the sopkes are chromed

ok let me try to explain, the spoked one have a rubber band for prevent leaking around the spoke head , over the time the head become rusted and eat the rubber so is one way , the second one is when you hit boardwalk or small stone , have at least an other reason is most of the mech doesn't put the "kind of" glue you need on the border side of the tire when you use tubeless , dont' forget our bike is already grand ma lah !!! so for prevent some small trouble we must be cautious

That's before .... wait to see After

Hey guys!

New steed rider here! Got the bike from my dad! Riding the 1995 Honda Steed VLX...my dad took good care of the bike! So it's my job now to maintain or better yet, make it better.

Found this thread..would love to join if you guys plan meet up as a group and ride, provided someone got an insider in the tp to prevent us from getting stopped every 10 minutes.. Haha! =)

Well I'm looking to make some changes to the bike, like maybe changing the handle bar, getting a new pipe and make something of it, riders footrest, two piece seats and etc. the problem is, I don't know where to get these stuff or which workshop sells or do these changes. Would appreciate if you guys point me to the right direction.

And also, my pillion footrest, currently using these wide footrest so it would be easier for my mum to get on to bring her to the market. But now..it's loose and how much I tighten, it will still be wobbly and lose. So I'm looking to get a new wide footrest... Similar to the eagle footrest but bigger and wider..the eagle footrest I bought for my phantom awhile ago was small..not really ideal for steed.

Wishing to hear from you guys! Hope you can help me! Appreciate it! And do hope to ride together! All steeds! That would be great! =)

That footrest can get from aunty shop at first east center. But i hate their workmanship. really cmi.

Lab would have too. Price about 60+/-

If you dun mind, just solder that footrest.

First motors at ubi when your bike has hiccups but they stock up only expensive rock oil engine.

They also have yummy used accesories if you are lucky!

Spark plugs at $5 a piece.

Welcome to the wonderful world of cruising!

First tip: Set up your bike to suit you. Adjust handle bars, levers, pedal height, seat height etc until it feels right. You will enjoying cruising down the expressway at 80. I know I do, cuz it's 100% stable and feels damn shiok =)

http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/streetsurvival/adjusting_your_bike/

Most of my accessories come from the Internet as I got sick of the lousy plastic chrome you get from LAB. I've decided to go for the American brands: Kuryakyn, Show Chrome etc. Pricey, but you get quality products. Had my Arlen Ness teardrop mirrors for 6 months now. Rode through rain more than 20 times. No rust. No tarnishing. Just minor pitting from the sand blasting from the road. And because they're solid metal, they do no vibrate at high speeds. At 100km/h my mirrors are crystal clear just like a car's :thumb: and not to forget, they look AWESOME

IMG_20121007_074624.jpg

Not sure if any shops here would carry original Kuryakyn parts, but if they do, most would be for Harleys and not metric bike like ours. Haven't visited Aunty's since I've upgraded from Phantom to Steed so I dunno about the quality of their products.

I have a pair of Cobra pipes for sale

lg_ehshadow7008001_300.jpg

100% loud and 100% illegal. But no aftermarket pipes are approved for Steed anyway.

The pipes are currently in an ugly state due to exhaust wraps, but I'll clean them up if you're interested in them.

$300 negotiable

I also have crashbars for sale.

Post a pic of ur present bike

Get a pic of how u want ur bike to look like

A lot of people will be able to help

Flat foot rest is not a problem

It look very nice

I have front ones

But frankly not as practical as the stock

In term of safety

And durability

But I like it

Posted (edited)

With a stock foot rest

When ur bike fall or skid

It will fold

But a flat foot rest

It will bend or spoil

It may also cos u to skid if u corner too low

But unlikely unless u corner a cruiser as low as a sport bike

But a flat foot rest is more comfortable than stock

Thanks Hydher for the heads up! Will check out the shop probably tomorrow or friday. Well im looking the flat footrest for pillion. i dont think it would be confortable for me to use it to ride. thinking of getting chrome footrest with a little rubber to it for mine. But would probably be slippery when it rains! haha. yea im having lots of thoughts about lots of changes to my bike...currently fully stock. Will upload a photo soon. btw! im wondering guys. servicing for steed, what needs to be done? How many bottles of engine oil? i know theres an airbox filter, is there an oil filter? two sparks right? haha im so clueless... gotta service soon. getting up to gear 2 needs extra effort now. gotta get the oil changed.

My dad usually just send the bike to his "trusted" workshop and leave it for them to service and send for inspection. end up getting charged 200+.. but i doubt they change anything since my dad dont ride at all! recently inspected last month. sent to them to do it. now my back drum and front disc are noisy as hell..especially the back. gotta make this ride perfect and smooth soon when i have the money.

What kind of problem? After a while the headlight will get dimmer cuz the twist connection will "grow" some white stuff that become electrical insulator. Best to crimp it with connectors or a crimp joint. No space take out the fairing and headlight assembly lor haha

I went to Rosli and he cut off the old crimps that I did myself, stripped new wire ends, solder it to keep it from fraying, then crimp on the round type connectors. He said the flat types that I used is not good for main circuit.

Anyone have low sissy bar and wanna trade with the high ones seen in Hydher's video? In case anyone hasn't figured it out yet his ex-Steed is now with me lol. Inclusive of the Cobra pipes too, which I intend to sell off soon after I get around to cleaning it and polishing it...

Xavev. We are going in circles. The first time the wires burnt, i sent it to Rosli and thats exactly what he did. Then it happened again and i went to first motors and they soldered it without the crimps.

Google for the manual and download it and read every letter.

It will turn you into a mechanic :thumb:

If I could turn back time, id buy ebc HH pads. Also, the screeching sound costs too much to rectify. I changed the pads for both ends and that didnt do the trick in fact, it got slightly louder. It only happens when its cold.

Okay I didn't know that. I'll monitor it, but now so far so good. Think if it goes bad again I'll probably disconnect the connectors and blast them with contact cleaner. But why did the wires burn in the first place? Too small?

Basic maintenence:

2.25L, equals to 2 and 1/4 bottle. Keep the remaining 3/4 so that you can top up the oil yourself when the need arise. Check dip stick oil level every month and top up when it gets low.

Always change the oil filter together with engine oil. A dirty oil filter will dirty the new oil immediately if you don't change it.

Manual states 12000 km to change oil. But most Sgreans are KS and change very early so up to you. For me I use Motul, an expensive fully synthetic oil so it should be capable of lasting longer so I intend to change every 10000 km.

4 spark plugs in our engines. Change every 6000 km. Dunno why manual states so short an interval but $5 per spark is so cheap I'm not gonna stinge on it.

Air filter every 18000 km. But air filter quite cheap also so can change earlier.

Clean and lube your chain every 800km or shorter. Chain lasts longer, fuel consumption gets slightly better, and pickup of your bike is better too, cuz of less power wasted in the chains.

google "honda vt 600 manual download". Our steed is essentially the same as the VT600 except the engine.

Noisy drum brakes (our rear brakes) are normal. Don't waste time and money trying to fix it. The reason why it's noisy is because dirt and brake dust build up and gets trapped inside the brake housing. Hydher, I think I figured out what that valve thing on my drum brakes are: they are for blasting brake cleaner into! Haven't tried it yet cuz I don't have brake cleaner, and besides I'm not bothered by the sound either. What I practise every day is to brake gently on the rear when leaving the carpark. By the time I hit the first traffic light the rear brakes will not screech and I can resume normal braking.

Sometimes I enjoy jamming it hard in the morning just to make them screech loud and annoy someone. :cheeky:

Just wanna show off the new tail/tank/sling/back pack that I bought along with a new pair of riding boots, the TCX X-Miles

The bag, Coocase Viper Tank Bag, is awesome! Can fit a FF helmet, has backpack straps, detachable sling, detachable wing magnets to stick to your tank, and hoops for bungies to go through and secure to your rear fender, and a clear pocket on top to put a map or GPS. Comes with waterproof cover too

Last 2 is to show my Kuryakyn Switchblade pegs on forward control extensions. I can choose between pegs and floorboard by opening or closing the L shape arm.

I'm gonna enjoy riding to work everyday now that I do not have to carry a backpack while riding :)

Hey xavez,

thanks for the full details on the maintenance. basically anwered all the questions i had in mind. The drum brakes are really annoying. yea it use to go away after braking a few times, but now it wont go away. keep getting the sort of attention i didnt want. haha.. instead of annoying anyone in the morning, i get annoyed myself.. so i just leave it? or should change something of it?

and thanks hydher, looking up the manual after i finish this reply. =)

oh! we need to check the dipstick on the steed as well? i use to do this for my phantom as my engine was alittle screwed as my pipes emitted white smoke. so i checked the dipstick then cause i know my engine oil is being burnt. but the steed needs to be check regularly too? the oil will decrease as time goes by?
