Question for VLX owners: is there an "off" position for the petc0ck? I can't seem to stop the flow of petrol. Many times I left it in the "off" position and manage to ride 30km. I'm thinking maybe my petc0ck isn't working properly.

 

I've been wanting to take out my tank to work on the carbs but don't want to make a flammable mess trying to switch off the petc0ck.

My petcock has 2 positions. RES and ON. No OFF position.

When I turn it half way i.e in between (see picture), the bike dies after a while. So for me that is the OFF position.

 

I replaced my broken petcock($50). You can see the 3 position in the picture. Hope this helps.

Anyone know where I can get a set of Spring forks.

I understand that the Steed comes in two versions - spring and damper.

So if I swap it should be legal?

springer fork quite costly.

was about 1k on 2nd market some years ago.

why dont you get a springer instead?

@Tiny Tim, Not sure if swapping is lta friendly. And it wont be easy to get a springer fork. However, ive seen one at the aunty shop at kaki bukit. Dunno for which bike though.

Thanks Tiny Tim. I could ride 30km with mine in that position. Definitely a busted petcock...

 

I'm pretty sure changing the fork to a different type is illegal. Heck, my aftermarket headlight bucket didn't pass.

 

Perhaps you can buy pipipapipu's bike and swap the entire front end. Switch back to the original for inspection once every year.

Let me know if you do that. I'm looking for a set of good condition stock pipes.

tyres, chain/sprocket all good.

engine, electrical, cooling system all sweet.

basically still good for another long long trip.

paintwork original but faded already. chrome still nice.

Top up $12 Ron98 from reserve. 1litre Ron98 is $2.34 so $12 is approx. 5.12litres of petrol.

 

Rode on s'pore roads at speed between 80kmh - 100kmh until hit reserve again. Mileage clocked 120km.

 

So 120km divide 5.12ltr = 23.4km/ltr

 

Correct my maths if wrong...... How about your ride?

I just topped up my tank. 246km, 9.38 litres = 26.2 km/l.

Spirited riding gets me around 24km/l

Brake light kit to convert signals to turn, tail and brake lights all in one. Not LTA approved, but easily disconnect before going to inspection. Passed twice already with no issues.

Maintenance:

Front tires changed early 2013.

Rear tires, chain and sprockets changed Nov 2013.

Maxima Cool-aide coolant changed early 2013.

Brake fluid changed mid 2013.

 

Bike starts without drama every day, even after 4 days long weekend of not starting, even after cold rain throughout the night. No need to hold throttle or pull choke. Just press button and it will start in less than 3 seconds.

 

SOLD to a nice guy, whom, coincidentally is the same age as me and has the same license plate number on his outgoing super 4 as my Harley.

hello guys, would like to gather some info about steeds before making a decision, wana know about if its a good idea to get a newly renewed coe would the bike last for another 10 years ? will sg run out of d parts for these sweet rides ? whats your view, and i read not all mech can do the bike is it true ?

IMO if u religiously change engine oil and coolant at the specified service interval and use quality oils (like Motul or AMSoil) the engine should easily last 40 years. Honda engines are very reliable.

 

Parts wise, Planet is able to source.

 

Last resort is to order online from USA. I got my spark plug boots there.
