agreed. when stopped at traffic lights, it does feel like im riding a jackhammer. If you hold on to the handlebars, you can see the whole world shaking up and down!

having said that im still trying to get used to the lack of revs and the lumpy engine at low rpm.

haha~ I think the MT has a lazy engine~ she deserves to get whacked~

IMO can try accelerate from range 1,500 to 3,000 rpm~ should be nice enough to put some excitement without losing the helmet~ had try something like above 3,000rpm for further acceleration and my open-face helmet nearly flew off couple of times...

Nevertheless the MT is more for sound & riding experience IMO

hi guys, want to ask some questions related to servicing, but i suspect i already know the answer to most of them:

1. Oil Filter - standard yamaha part? i.e. same as FJR, R1

2. Engine Oil - i have some leftover maxima 10w40 fully syn, any comments if I continue to use this oil? Anyone on semi syn?

3. Servicing - i suppose that any decent bike shop can do an oil change for the MT?

Hi adrian,

I have the service manual and parts fiche.. let me know and I can email to you. It has info about servicing frequency and oem part numbers. Also surf the MTOC forum. Those guys also know quite a bit. never been to yammie dealer so dont know them. Personally though.. I prefer to DIY. All according to the manual though. Things I can't diy I bring to bike shop like bikewerkz and standby full time while they servicing. X files: trust no oneo_O. but some of my buddies say that HKL pretty knowledgeable tho..:thumb:

Not sure on the oil filter thought~ I often change it at Yamaha Agent... no waiting time, so I suspect its the same standard Yamaha part, just that not sure... may be next trip to Hong Leong I will check with the mech~

Thanks. What oil do they use on your bike? Manual recommends Yamalube 20w40 which I have never seen before in my life.

Thanks man, I have them too. Oil filter is behind the rectifier and there are 2 oil drain plugs, according to the manual.

Guys at MTOC can't seem to agree on what oil to use, mineral, semi syn, fully syn, 10w40, 15w50....anything goes!

Stock is good...Choose your weapon wisely and enjoy it...you can have all the $$$$ to mod and in the end you can't make full use of it....

inline 4 with redline at 11k rpm versus v-twin with redline at 5.5k rpm? do the math man.

but actually, was out riding with my buddies ( 2 cbrs, 1 gixx and a 1098) up to mersing, and besides the fact that the mt and the duc had small fuel tanks, fuel consumption was same for all. about 13~15 clicks per liter. bear in mind, we were riding at an ...ahem.."enthusiastic" pace.

If I recall correctly, during run-in I was using mineral oil, after 1st service switch to fully syn... that was like 3 years ago when I got my MT from the Yamaha Agent... anyway I just let Yamaha Agent throw in any oil they recommend, so far so good~ not a slight problem in my engine...

BTW just for sharing that there were two times when I followed the manual and change engine oil every 10,000km instead of 5,000km... still runs very well with no issue but when changing oil, the mech mentioned that my oil level were a bit low but still functional... might be because of our local weather~? so I guess best bet would be changing oil at 5,000km, if not 7,000km which I did last service

I never hit red-line thought~ IMO above 3,000rpm is a bit too much for me in Sg roads~ and I prefer to accelerate from 2,000rpm to 3,000 rpm~ just nice for me to feel the torque without losing my helmet, there was a time when I hard accelerate from 1,500rpm to 3,000rpm but I feel that would stress the engine~ feels like lagging~ just a thought

Should be able to do 10,000km intervals, since the revs are so low. But its a pain to check the oil level using the dipstick :sian:

I never use the dipstick~ I just monitor my meter to see if the engine light came up~ so far so good

Might be a tricky one, it has been a long time since I heard any bros getting a new MT~ moreover our local Yamaha Agent is not bringing in the MT anymore~ and its not just happening in Singapore, but other countries as well like India & Canada... sooner or or later it will become a "collector item"

May be look out for parallel import or try your luck from Loois or Mah Motor (if warrenty is not your concern and there will be no recall notifications)... print out a photo of the bike, just in case the staff dun know what is 'MT-01'

Just in case~ IMO there is just a handful of people riding the MT, the explosure to the public is very little

wow... bro, that' ex..:giddy: don't get me wrong, i dont mind spending if its worth it, but this is mad. the batt type is GS GT14B-4 or YUASA YT14B-4 or -BS, as found from net. Fazer forum guy here, bought the yuasa type from LAB for $105 bucks! one-zero-five-dollar-singapore-money!

I haven't tried changing the MT-01 batt yet, but it's under the seat, just a rubber strap holding it down. Open the seat, remove strap, remove terminals and drop in new batt. what workmanship involved did they charge for? What's the extra cost for? The other 188? for coffee and cigarettes? beer and pizza? cos I know they don't have pretty girls to service customers there, just one fat dude, too busy surfing the net. (people somehow tend to show true color when I turn up in shorts, singlet and lowyar cupkia, as opposed to driving there in business clothes... hehe. so beware the lauyar kupkiaman!... :cheeky:)

Now my batt is also dying, cos the horn sound is twitchy and it cranks slower when starting up. when time comes, I'll go the diy way and buy the yuasa from LAB and do the swap myself and let u guys know how hard (or easy) it was and what the total cost is. Maybe even try to put up pics for reference.:thumb:

P.S:

to be fair though, major surgery should go to proper authorites. In the MT's case, this means HL. Things like overhaul, clutch plates, engine gaskets, major engine stuff then these guys are logically the best qualified. For other minor issues, like tyres, brakes, eo, pads, may be better off with small scale shops (with lower overheads and cheaper prices)

P.P.S:

has anyone noticed how small angelina jolie's b00bs have become in the movie Salt? What is happening to the world man??!

Yeah Bro I find that is expensive compare to outside~ even more expensive than the normal cars~ that battery alone was already $220, not to mention manpower & GST... IMO getting things from agent seems to be expensive~ same goes to my other ride.. the mech did check for my coil & retiflier as well

for me I will still push my ride to agent to handle all the services... I already used to their pricing~ as long as I am having a good ride & ease of mind :)

but now that u mentioned rectifier and coil.. anyone experience any issue with these items on mt?

For me so far no issue on Rectifier & Coil~ not a problem over past 3 years with the MT, they are solid good :thumb:
