why need so many days? :p

as long as all the neccessary items are available, & plans accordingly, I think, 1 day is possible to mount..

But that is really, 1 whole day..

at first i also thought y need so many days, then i realised..

if you can find a shop that -

- dedicates 100% of a work day to your bike,

- huge inventory of spares (bolts, nuts, bearings),

- you can be certain no parts need to be machined at all, otherwise, his shop have lathe machine preferably,

- instruct the mechanic exactly what to do with every single thing needed you already provide for him (that includes bearing bolts and nuts)

1st point is quite hard to achieve already.

as these are considered 'projects', there's no 'manual' for the mechanic to follow. is totally based on his experience.

yeah, understand the difficulties..

well, actually y not DIY hands on instead?

Just a personal point of view, maybe can talk to the boss nicely beforehand, requesting for use of space & tools, but DIY, if boss agrees, then, space & tools not a worry liao.

Next, whilst doing, guess the mechs even though busy, may just pop in for a view, can ask for some help for awhile while not interrupting their ongoing jobs.

& you can learn on the go too!

kehehe.. that's how i go to ah chong's & "chop" a space for my DIY "projeks"...

except that I didnt inform him beforehand..

actually there are specialized PROJECT shops around.. most of those HD bikes are actually parked at a PROJECT shop for customization. and usually the period of time parked in there are from days to weeks..

welding/machining, not much of an issues for bikeshops doing customization. i know of 2 off-hand..

the only constraints is the waiting time..

then when you reach parts that need to be machined how? even though my workshop last time had a lathe machine, i didnt know how to operate it. lol. you need die set to cut threads as well. my house have a die set, anything less than 6mm bolts can cut lah, big ones i dont have.

like you say, getting a space in the bike workshop is not too big of an issue. i just need to tell ah chong nicely.

then comes the worst part, you try for a whole day, end up cannot. do you

1) leave the bike there and try again tmr?

2) or by afternoon if still cannot you set fixing back your original stuff?

3) or end up just asking your mech to fix it for you?

option 1 is not really an option to me. some pple have their own yard to leave the bike there as it is, or take public transport to work. if i own another transport, it will be a different story. i might try to diy almost everything.

option 2, i tried to diy at my void deck before and i screwed myself deep deep, go toilet scared pple steal my stuff, eat cannot eat, worst nightmare was it was coming midnight, if my friend didnt come and help me late at night, i would have to take mrt to work the next day.

option 3, that's how i conclude with going straight to this option.

there definitely are bikeshops that do project stuff.. but they must know what's needed. i went to a few shops,

1 told me cannot be done, he dun want to try

1 told me find other shops to do, he have many other projects. if let him do, take a few months lor.

1 told me can, take 2 weeks minimum.

1 told me can, 5 days.

1 told me can, 2 days fastest, but needs to dismantle and see.

i wont list the shop names. lol.

the shops that told me 2 days fastest have 1 of the most knowledgeable mech around, and he have exp in similar projects. he gave me the most confidence that it can be done, knowing almost everything that's needed. only part he didnt expect had to be machined, which cant be helped cos no1 could have prepared that part beforehand. bike needs to be dismantled before machining it.

end of the day, i was satisfied with his work, he took 5 instead of 2 days but that's fine, he had to ask the machining guy to hurry the job, it was not within his control. if the part was done beforehand i could have taken my bike back within 2 days.

understand your plight... been there, done it too!

stuck @ MSCP, worked frm 10pm till 6am..... :giddy:

But that's electricals...

I cant afford to leave bike in shop unless I tk leave to accompany it and must mk sure by end of day, hook or crook, have to ride home..

So far, havent gone to the extend that need to machine or tap any parts...

Unless Ive gone bonkers to determine to change my front telescopic forks to USD forks.. lol..

So, it must have been quite a journey to invert yr forks eh?

doing it at mscp you can have 1 less worry, you dun need to ride your bike if you really cannot finish the work, just cover. i still need to ride/push from the void deck to the carpark. :cheeky:

yep.. learn a little, that's y i am here to share that little experience with everyone here. there are pple who have done it on other bikes, but mostly sportsbike to sportsbike conversion.

Hi Bros,

How do you distinguish a fake showa from a real one. What are the key components I have to look at? Please enlighten me. I wanna make sure so I will not get conned :)

Googled and did not get any result for the above mentioned.

Any guru can advise how to tell if it's genuine Showa?

There is no fake SHOWA lah..either it is a SHOWA for S4 or non that looks alike. If you can get the CB750 Super4 model (no canister)..that shock is as good if not better that original S4 SHOWA. The last I known the price was about $700 or so.

Stupid Hurts!.:giddy:Speed doesn't kill, mistakes does :faint:

BEER!...it's cheaper than fuel now! DRINK!..DON'T RIDE!

Fake showa is actually other brand shocks but owner put showa stickers. hahaha. That time I bought it from a forumer at 300. 2nd hand one though

When I feel sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead. True story. Hehe :thumb:

When touring, its usually the rider that give way first before the bike itself.

got box got tour.

This morning I heard a squeaking sound when going a hump. I tried sitting down and up a few times to test the suspensions and my friend said the sound coming from the left rear suspension. There is no leak of oil and bike feels normal though. Except the sound is quite irritating especially if go over a hump. Should I DIY tighten it or something or go shop ask mechanic rectify/service?

Any aftermarket suspension to recommend?

I'm worried if service my showa, it will bcome worst in futue as well..

So better sought a brand new one..

Ohlin is out of the pic.. Too ex.. Hehe
