1. That disc that you have inserted, what is it?

2. If it's Windows XP, is it the full version, or the upgrade version?

He may have a different computer (BIOS) than yours that may require him to press something other than F3.

If his computer is already all set-up to boot from the CD drive first but was unsuccessful, it may be that the disc is not manufactured or burned as a "bootable" -type disc

SynesterGates: Do you see anything that says "Press xyz Key to select boot drive" ?

Insert your disc beforehand and follow that instruction if so.

It could be the CD-ROM Drive is not reading the CD properly. Your computer will try to read the CD, if fails, it will go straight to the next available hardware component. Please try the CD first at a working computer. Also check if there are scratches on the CD. This may cause the CD not to work.

It could also be that your CD-ROM drive is dirty or faulty. Maybe you could clean the drive first by using a cleaning CD kit, or connect to a working CD-ROM Drive.

You don't see "Press Any Key to Boot From CD..." after doing so

If you (1) tried the F12 method to attempt to boot from the CD, and (2)modified the BIOS settings to allow your computer to boot from your CD drive first -- but all didn't work, I'd say that either your WinXP CD is not the "full" version but the "upgrade" one,

or that the CD is copied from another source (i.e. using a CD burner)??

Let us know if you have further doubts.

bro before formatting the HDD u got to clear ur HDD cos latest trend of virus they changed your system information parameter without we notice it, be it your bios setup is perfect. once they changed your HDD info parameter it can be reformatting easily. trust me.........recently i reformatted about 4 PCs of my frens 3 of them same fault cant reformat.

So I took their HDD out fix in a external casing

then fix to my notebook USB

clear all the virus spayware ( using avast Pro )

then fix back to the ori pc

Perfect can reformat.

FAT32 or NTFS also can

But i dont earn i take it as a knowledge.

This is what my BIOS looks like.

Shown here is the "Boot Order" page where I can re-arrange the order to which the computer attempts to boot the devices.

If you look carefully, my CD-ROM drive is the 3rd to start, after all else has failed. In fact, in your case, you should rearrange that to be the first on the list, since you'll be wanting your PC to seek the CD-ROM first, before anything else.

Tip: Choose NTFS when formatting hard drives for Windows XP / Vista.

It's a very efficient, organised, and a secure file system.
