I think Mr Stoner is abit under pressure that he cannot win by a big lead like what he did in 2007.Saw the clips in his garage before the race and he was not even smiling to the camera .....or he is still down with fever??

During FP & QP, he was down with fever but nevertheless, he got pole position..While Rossi was down with an ear and sinus infection...

I lost intrest when stoner fell.. It just took the excitement away.. But the fight for 2nd was damn intresting the best part was all were this season's podium virgins.. It's really fun to see them cutting in to each others lining (from the inside!!!) and being cut again on the next.. Exihilarating!!

For stoner, I think hes' going to be back.. Just like in the earlier of this season's races, he's bike was not on form and as for CARDION AB GRAND PRIX CESKE REPUBLIKY he's not on form.. maybe his wifey didn't give him the nite b4 dats y he's grumpy..hehe!

rossi, stoner, pedrosa....all had a crash this season. rossi, is way clear on top.

when yamaha screwed it up in 2006, still fought for 2nd place up to the end of season.

when michelin screwed it up in 2007, still fought for 2nd/3rd place up to the end with injuries.

clearly proven, best rider of this decade.

Don't just break your laptimes, SHATTER them!!

Day one of testing in Brno concludes with Stoner on top

Monday, 18 August 2008

Casey Stoner breached the 1´57 barrier in Brno on the first of two days of post-race testing.

He may be leaving Brno with a points tally no greater than upon arrival, but 2007 MotoGP World Champion Casey Stoner was determined to make as much use as possible of the visit to the Czech Republic. One of the riders with the most extensive testing programmes for the first day of post-race testing in Eastern Europe, the Ducati Marlboro rider topped the timesheet with a blistering 1´56.261 lap in the final hour of Monday action.

Using the current Desmosedici GP8 in favour of the 2009 prototype GP9, Stoner undertook some 55 laps of the circuit over the course of seven hours. He had already broken the 1´57 barrier before stopping for lunch -16 laps into his workload- and continued to shave tenths off his time as he worked on tyres and mechanical adjustments.

Sunday racewinner Valentino Rossi was finally able to work with the new Fiat Yamaha electronics package in a low-pressure setting, having elected against trying it out at Laguna Seca and Brno on race weekends. The Italian recorded a fastest time nearly dead-on one second slower than that of title rival Stoner, the only rider to go round quicker than him on Monday.

Alice Team´s first podium finisher Toni Elias was third fastest, ahead of Shinya Nakano in what was more dry time with the factory spec Honda RC212V for the San Carlo Honda Gresini rider. Also getting used to new machinery were the Rizla Suzuki duo of Chris Vermeulen and Loris Capirossi, who were trying out a base prototype of the 2009 GSV-R despite neither having been confirmed as part of the team´s line-up for next year.

The most laps of the day were performed by second Ducati Marlboro rider Marco Melandri, also on the GP8 machine. In fact, the 2008 bike was used by all those in the factory and test team, with Niccolo Canepa also in attendance for another run with the regular riders.

Other test riders on track were Kawasaki´s Olivier Jacque –who joined LCR Honda´s Randy de Puniet in having a light crash before lunch- and Tadayuki Okada, the only Honda rider using the pneumatic valve engine RC212V. Okada was on Nicky Hayden´s Repsol Honda bike, aided by the 2006 World Champion´s crew, prepping the bike for the injured American´s return at Misano and beyond. Dani Pedrosa, meanwhile, performed a minimal eleventh laps and elected against using anything other than the standard spring valve motor, owing to his dissatisfaction with the performance afforded to him by his tyres.

The field will be depleted for the second and final day of testing on Tuesday, with many teams electing to field their full line-up on Monday only. The 250cc teams testing alongside the premier class, including the likes of Alvaro Bautista, Mika Kallio and Hector Barbera (plus 125cc rider Joan Olive on the 250cc Lotus Aprilia) are likely to head home after a single day of post-race action.

It has been officially confirmed that Dani Pedrosa will make a shock switch from Michelin to Bridgestone tyres with immediate effect - splitting the Repsol Honda Team in two for the five remaining rounds of the 2008 season, starting with the inaugural Indianapolis Grand Prix on September 14.

A statement from Michelin confirming the split read as follows:

"For 24 years Michelin and Honda have worked together at the highest level of motorcycle racing. Together the two companies have won 14 premier-class World Championships.

"The two companies fully understand the importance of the “feeling” between the rider and the equipment he has at his disposal, especially tyres.

"Despite making an excellent start to the season and leading the World Championship going into the German GP, during the last few races Dani Pedrosa has made it know to both Michelin and Honda that he doesn't feel at ease with the tyres that Michelin have offered him.

"Honda and Michelin believe that rider confidence needs to be at its maximum if the rider is to fully exploit the tactical potential of the tyres.

"In these circumstances Michelin and Honda have therefore decided not to equip Pedrosa with Michelin tyres for the remainder of the 2008 season."

"Pedrosa comments: “I thank Michelin and Honda for their mutual understanding and for agreeing to my personal demands. I am very conscious of the fact that I have made some excessively negative comments about Michelin tyres, even though Michelin helped me make an exceptional start to the season.”

"Both Honda and Michelin hope that MotoGP World Championship will continue with a multi-tyre brand regulation in 2009, Michelin will equip one of the Repsol Honda's two riders for the remainder of the 2008 season."

Team-mate Nicky Hayden, expected to leave Honda for Ducati next season, will thus remain on Michelin tyres.
