Finally got my 2B! Got myself a bike and went riding this morning - first actual ride. Did a silly rookie mistake. I got myself a Pulsar 200NS. It's a carbourated bike. Last night, when I got home, I turned the fuel petcock to the OFF position. This morning, I forgot all about that, started the bike, and went riding. Managed to get about a kilometer or so from home and stalled the bike at a traffic light junction!! Thank goodness the bike didn't stall when i was in the middle of riding. Tried to start the bike and it wouldn't start. Only after a couple of seconds, I remembered about the fuel petcock and turned it back ON. So malu. Hahaha...

But all that said, riding is FUN! :)

New to biking - especially carb bikes. Dunno.... Good practice, I guess? Is it really necessary. Also, I'm a weekend-only rider. I drive on most days. So bike will be left standing for a few days in between without starting. Necessary to off?

I'm also a weekend rider, so my bike sits in the car park for 5 or 6 days every week.

And it's an 18 year old bike. I never switch off.

It happens! 10 years ago, I sold my first bike (NSR SP) to a young malay chap. I was telling him how good a condition the bike was in etc etc. I had given the bike a good coat of paint. The carb had been washed and serviced, the exhaust had be de-carbonised, and the the bike only needed a single kick each time to kick start.

And then, ha! He took over the bike and it promptly died after riding 1km to my regular workshop. I was embarrassed and confused. Until i figured I the fuel petcock was not set to reserve.

Rookie mistake made by a rookie. Sometimes we look back at the times when we made silly mistakes. lol!

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.
