Awesome dude... I live vicariously through your adventures :thumb:

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

Marine case? I wish - the camera I use dont have an underwater case.

I use the disposeable one-time use underwater camera. The pictures dont do the underwater landscape any justice.

Now, if there are forumes with an underwater camera ...

JustRider - I think you mean Port Dickson. You can send over by ship but depending on the location it could take a while - for example Sydney is about 2 weeks of sailing.

If you fly it the bike gets there same time as you do

hi, do u know how much it cost to fly a class 2 bike over to australia? and anything to take note of ?

Posted

The bike doesnt matter - it goes according to weight.

From KL to Perth it was about RM6 per kilo, but a return from Suydney ia about A$10. I forgot the exact figure but you can call Maskargo and get the exact figures.

Plus you also have to include the customs, dangerous goods, etc and you will soon be running out of money!

Wow, lots of border crossing! Interesting ride as always. :thumb:

I was looking for a motorcycle rental shop in Kota Kinabalu but came up blank.

An email response from borneobikingadventures.com dated Dec 2007:

First thing. Bike rental in Malaysia is illegal.

We are a Federally Registered Tour Company and conduct tours on motor cycles. That's legal.

You may have noticed that there is only one company in Sabah conducting bike tours.

Secondly, Sabah is not suitable for self conducted tours. Most of the roads we use are not on maps and quite often fuel can only be found in drums, if you know where to look.

Cell phones do not work in many parts of the country (we carry a satellite phone) if you do get into trouble you could be out there for quite some time. Our 4X4 support vehicle accompanies riders whenever they are off road.

Thirdly, there are very few big bikes in Sabah. We have the only Aprila Trails in Borneo and the only Pegaso Tibet in all of Malaysia.

There are however plenty of mopeds. If you wish to toddle around town I'm sure any of the bike shops will "lend" you one for a few days.

Where are you located? When are you coming to Borneo? Are you tour operators yourselves?

I should send borneobikingadventures.com a link to FB666Y's trip report. :cheeky:

Ah, tour operators!

I have come across Borneo Biking Adventures a couple of years ago - but unless my salary was aid in Euro or in British pounds it didnt make much sense.

Maybe I ought to set up a biking tour company myself and bring Singaporeans round SEAsia and the world!

I really love your underwater pictures, beautiful!

On your idea to set up a biking tour company, please do! You earn money doing something you enjoy doing anyday, everyday! And it'll allow people like me who're not so brave to have the experience...haha!

Have a question, I see you only bring along a tank bag with no side bags, may I ask what you pack in it, for how many persons, and how long was the trip? I like the idea of bringing minimal luggage like you.

Thanks, and pls keep the pictures coming!

Well, the underwater pics were taken with a disposalable underwater camera - unless youre shooting at the right lighting most of the pics come out bleached and lifeless - I got lucky in Sipadan with all those turtles swimming around. All those pictures, by the way, were taken while snorkelling, and not diving.

As for luggage a solo rider can get away with just a tank bag:

Tools and any spare go into the bike, under the seat. I have a basic tool set and a tire patch kit (the vulcanising strips type). With the R1 Im mostly worried about things I cant repair like the electronics and electrics!

I dont carry much clothes - 2 jeans, a couole of t-shirts. What we do is put the clothes into ziploc bags and vacuum pack them by sitting on the ziploc bags. That way you get out most of the excess air and you have a very small parcel. In this manner you would be surprise what you can fit into a tankbag.

R1Rider, or is it Sanaga! Didnt expect you to troll the local forum. How are trackdays in Sentul? Are they pleny of good roads in Java?

hey bro

did u check wheater ur bike can pass thru indonesia either from Tarakan or Tawau Side or From Pontianak side?

Posted

tangolima - I didnt check, but I dont think it should be an issue - just a matter of formality. Where there's a will there's a way.

What will be a problem is the lack of roads in Kalimantan. Kuching to Pontianak is not a problem - but you cant get to Tarakan from Tawau by road, only boat. Unlike the Malaysian side, most of the cities on the Indonesian part of Borneo are not connected.

yo man..

i have personally went and check from balikpapan to samarinda is possible then proceed to Berau from berau u can go to golongan and from there is a ferry that will bring u to tarakan and tawau.

From balikpapan to banjarmasin there is land crossing and sea crossing no issue. What i am unsure is from pontianak to banjarmasin is the road tar or dirt. If it is dirt road. I think u better not take the R1... u will probably faint.

My guess is the same as yours..indonesia allow big bikes to come in. I did try to check with the local police there. They told me as long got proper paperwork and as usual maybe some kopi money. Your singaporebike can go thru indonesia.
