Bike Shops Vs Private Seller

Bike shops more costly, but they give you warranty for a limited time/ mileage.

The paperwork they do everything for you. U juz choose the right bike and pay the downpayment and maybe the 1st installments.

If u surf this forum, u will notice some shops's name keeps cropping up for the wrong reasons...Make ur own opinion from that.

I prefer to buy from shop cos at least the shop wont run away after selling me crap. Or maybe I too lazy to call private sellers lah... :)

Juz make sure u dun get chopped in the first place...remember it's ur hard earned money. If the shop say maybe bike is 2K, ask them to throw in a new box or new chain. U never know...hoho...

Skid

As others mentioned, all bikes skid if u r careless and apply incorrect braking techniques.

Attire

Not say cannot wear heels lah, but u can choose to wear spaghetti top, mini skirt and heels. But if u happen to miss that puddle of oil, u will skid in that attire as well. :nono:

Maybe a bit long winded, but please protect urself, no one else will.

Note

Juz remeber ur own criteria of the bike:

For transport only, must have box. Not much choices in class 2B. :)

Box good, can put many things like raincoat, rain boots, coupons, bee hoon...etc :)

Before u collect ur bike, make sure the bike's been properly done up. The road tax paid, the engine oil changed, spark plug new, all brakes and lights working well. Remember, u are paying them! Damn!!!!!!

:faint:

anyways, alot of useful info here already, and so many offers to help (a little bit extra when its a lady rider)... so set, go and re-read all those already posted kao liao...  left 2 weeks still cannot, you know everyone here very helpful...  :goodluck:

:cheeky: ;p

yah lor, i very kiasu and actually very kiasee too (used to be)

but hor, as i know myself well, so better see see look look around 1st, who knows after 3mths later, something might happened and totally change my love to ride...

took so long because, scienticfic proven : infaturation or crush usually will not survive thru' 3mth-6mth to a year.... (tat's why relationship always hit shipwreck during this period mah, yap even with bikes)

but seriously looking for a good transport as i am moving around, and working out my sums to have a real practical down-to-earth view of everything too.

as getting a bike (especially which type/model) might although be convenient but there are committments and responsibility too (this is really true, if you want your family/friends to trust your decisions, you muz 1st proved to them i'm reliable mah rite?), and especially financially, might be even more than the current transport fees i am paying. don't wish to get so frustrated and disturb over the monthly payments/petrol/road tax & etc lor.....

sincerely don't wish to jump in the heat and get myself into a big mess or hang in the mid-way (neither here or there)

edited : tat's mean working out my priority lor.... then can committ rite, and then won't murmur, grumble, and live in regrets and etc.... but hey, don't bcos i so kiasu and kiasee then stop giving me advices leh~ i sincerely desire to seek out for advices and information

rode a phantom 200 b4

initially it's kinda hard to handle due to the weight and the difference in the riding posture

be prepared for it if u planned to get it.

i skidded a few times on the road, not sure if it's me or the bike.

but overall it's a nice and low-maintenance bike, maintenance less than 30 bucks(1 eo, 1 spark plug) each time.

fuel consumption quite good, usually i ride 200km then go pump(shell98), which cost me abt 8-9bucks during the S$1.50+/L sg petrol time.

most imptly, get an experience phantom rider to go with u(if u choose phantom), things like gasket leak, corroded fork, lousy tires are hard to spot for newbie(mistakes i made back then)

and paying slightly more from a good reputation shop is always better than getting cheap from some self-proclaimed-everything-also-can shop.

they will squeeze money out of u 1, i'm sure many bros agree with me on that.

To BenSim: actually, i am definitely getting a bike, my dad knows that once i made the decision, nobody can change it, but frankly hor, i am still undecisive abt which one to have... so it is reli okie, no need to wait for me (i scare by that time i have forgotten abt this already, then delay your deal, not good mah)

Np. but charbo ride the new model vespa is :thumb: . but i heard not cheap

try this, if u r buying a new bike,

get this check list with you.

if the motor tiam quote u on the road price, ask them to list dwn something like this.

does the OTR include: GST

ERP

Roadtax (mostly have 6months)

COE (should be include when quoted OTR)

insruance (most properly dun include)

interest (hw many % per year, make sure it flat.)

installment (caulautor see whether the total amount match

the amount that is given to u)

there shouldn't be any transfer fee, cos the COE will be bid under ur name, unless u wan a fast collection of ur bike, some bike shop do quote a admin fee, but u can always go to other that dun charge that = )

most properly shouldn't have any more charge, if have ask them list dwn black and white then bring it here and let us verify

and most impt, bring a experience trader go dwn with u and help u bargain :lovestruck:

if u r getting a 2nd hand bike from a pte seller, view the bike in whole,

check the outlook condition,

check for botak tire,

check for bouncy suspension,

check for rusty chain,

check for sharp spocket,

check algiment of handlebar, fork,

check for etc etc etc.......

a lot of thing to check, anyway, just compare the price and hear for smooth engine, the rest that u check is just for bargain. :cheeky:

from a pte seller, not much fee invole, just kwn wat the price he is selling and pay extra for transfer fee, and insurance. can be done by urself to save admin charge, but i prefer ask motor tiam do, i too lazy. lol

and most impt, bring a experience biker go dwn with u and help u check.

if u r getting a 2nd hand bike from a bike shop, the check list for 1st hand bike above apply, and the check list for pte buyer also apply. most of the time they will say they had just change engine oil, spark plug. just ask them to change in front of u again. try to get the bike the same day when u sign the agreement, cos some bike shop might change away the part after u sign the agreement, if u r collecting another day. mostly insurance can be done in a working, just make sure u let them have enough time for the insurance company and LTA to do the transfer.

and most impt, bring a experience trader and biker go dwn with u and help u check and bargain. =)

hmmm......maybe others can add in the check list which i have miss out.

hope it help.

hey, this is very very helpful to me!

sincererly kum sia :thumb:

personally, as a gal if i am reli going down (and had saved enough) will announce it here, see who free on that day on tat time, maybe can drop by....

as i understands time arrangement may not be convenient for all, i do not wish to impose or tax on anyone.... when the time comes

hahaha :D

thank you yo~

Edited : oops~ forgot to add in, would prefer someone who is real experienced, play motor for a few yrs, but sinerely don't wish too many helpful appear on tat day, as it may give 'mis-interpret' signal to the motortiam tat we might not be trusting/respecting them...

end up don't know how they will chop me and disturb my beloved bike.... ai yah, doing business, they surely need to earn profit, as long as they are not too mean, i am quite ok, i don't wish to appear to be a very fussy and mean buyer too.... ai yah, will see how when the time comes lor

haiyo, xiao mei, such a simple thing you way over-complicate it... just like when girls go shopping... sang nao ching ah...

somemore bring in BG relationship, 3-6mths infatuation what not... actually its not completely wrong, just a different context... riding a bike is the love affair & the partner is the bike... so when you get sian or when it just doesn't do it for you anymore, time to change bike.. :D

want to ride super 4 next time? then try RXZ...go realli old school, looks a bit apekish but its super cheap maintenance-somemore can go jb do everything i.e. everything is half price! fuel consumption one of the best; 33-38km/litre!only i heard wave can beat that. but wave is too small. I am small sized but after a few drops innitially its so easy to handle the bike!

plus like me i realli need a big box for my gym attire, big bag and helmet...so get a 42Litre box that stays well if u intend to do some city squezing...by the way get some experience-a few mths at least-b4 starting to squeeze etc

Phantom @ Mah Motor cost abt 5.8k OTR slightly x then Bike Production.

But still consider 1 of the gd deals from other motordiams. I was qouted from 6.2k-6.8k from various motoriams :giddy:

But still gotta consider ur age for insurance and type. Mah Motor minimum 2nd party, Bike Pro 3rd party. I prefer getting 1st hand so I'm sure of my bike condition. Pricewise ok ma mthly ard $150 for installments since u working shldnt b tat tough. My downpayment only put 1k nia. :cheeky:

Phantom on whole gd la tats y i choose it too :lovestruck: Newbies like me i think common prob is u-turn ba cos beginning i kinda not used to that. Other then that no prob. Only thing i hate abt phantom is RUST ! quite cham 1 needa polish now n then if u no cover her. :help:
