Hi, I am in the process of buiyng a new bigger bike, currently I have steed 400. I narrowe my choices to two motos; Magna VF 750 1995 26,000 KM on clock and a honda shadow 750 1999 with 15,000 on the clock. Bith are very very well taken care of, and both looks great and feels great, I didnt ride any of them though. what do u think I would choose? what are the reasons? I lean more towords the Magna for the added power but I would love to hear some comments.

 

Please do not recommend any other bikes as those are the only available at the moment and I have very limited choices but good ones I think. Thanks

It would depend solely on whether you are expecting to tour with the new bike or just daily commuting. Magna look good in its stock looks being a power cruiser while Shadow look good with permanent fixture, either a rear top box, saddle bag or side pannier. Of course, soft pannier and tank bag goes well with Magna too if you decide to tour with this bike occasionally.

 

I assume you are talking of Shadow ACE, which, both models would be chain driven with rider’s foot peg then thus, other than a better sitting posture on Shadow over a long distance riding, a better cornering angle with Magna, tubeless rims on Magna, both are great bike with good reasonable fuel tank size in the 750cc range.

 

Perhaps your main concern would lies on parts availability since Magna is already an out of production model thus, one might concern parts availability for a Honda 750cc V4 engine. However, being a Honda also mean the engine construction is very much reliable, much to the appraised by many.

 

If I were given a choice, I would take Shadow ACE for its classic looks and spend bucks replacing the spoke rims to tubeless rims. The rumble of a Japanese engineered V-Twin still root deep in me.

Also depends on the price. Both same price to buy? Ha ha.. I also want!!!

 

 

yeah both are the same price (minor differences) and that makes it even harder

Thanks for all the replies and great help...updates: test drived both, started with the shadow as I am coming from Steed and I know that the Magna is more powerful so left it to the end; the shadow was awesome after the steed; bigger, hevier, stable, and all the way it was a big jump for me, so I really got Impressed. Then I tried the Magna, to tell you the truth from the moment I started the engine I really loved the bike let alone when I test drived it....What I felt is that the Magna has a new definition for power it is like bringing another dimention to how power defined....I got the Magna home and I am really really happy, it has 26000 km on the clock and I didnt try the fourth and the fifth gear yet, I already hit 120 km/h on the second gear with rpm at 7000 and the redline is at 10000!!!! I am really excited:)

there's a 95 red magna at dili trading at ubi along the stretch of road same as planet motor.

a bit pricey if you ask me, but you can try your luck if you want. i woulda went for it if i have a class 2 license.

 

i'm interested to know where and for how much you got the bike for. do pm me if it's inappropriate to post it here.

soemtimes you have to get it first. Or else it may be gone by the time you get your class 2:cry:
