depends on whether the tp wanna fine u.. but normally brands like arai.. they haf non-psb ones as well.. but that dosent mean it dosent protect your head better than those $15 psb helmets out there..

bottom line is(IMO).. just wear what u feel ur head is worth.. dont bother abt the psb.. psb dosent save your head..

I was worried about wearing a Shoei non-PSB helmet. Then I thot .. screw it, TP ask just say that "I want to protect my head and definitely this helmet is better than any of the 30 40 bucks one, if you are gonna book me then go ahead and I will write to the media with this story."

... so far haven't got the chance to go to the media with any story .. keke :)

I think TP will only pick on you if you ride dangerously or recklessly. I've been along side TPs with my Shoei and no problem.

Cheers

Yes, TP have not much issue with PSB sticker as long you ride safely following the traffic rules.

BUT! (Touch wood arh), when involved in an accident while riding without a PSB sticker, claims and insurance is unable to cover you and your head!. With the insurance that we all have, liability cover the rider and pillion wear proper helmets with PSB approved model. That is the main concern, Claims and Insurances.

Provided the whole sticker remains intact. Unlikely insurance company to in depth to check the authenticity of the PSB approved helmet as long there is a sticker. Up to individual preference and also up to TP to take in consideration or not.

i've been looking for something concrete regarding penalty for wearing helmets without psb stickers (non-psb approved), so far got nothing. what the motortiams told me is that it carries a fine of $150 and 3 demerit points, something yet to be verified.

police website at DIPS Offences stated "Riders failing to wear or wear insecurely on his head a protective helmet" but didn't say anything on non-psb approved helmets.

it's a real big problem if someone gets into an accident and insurance doesn't wanna cover. no matter how good a helmet is, there's a limit to the protection. therefore, getting a good helmet is not good enough... get a good psb-approved helmet :thumb: this is where the singaporean kiasi approach can become positive :p

but not sure if insurance will go to the extent of not paying if the helmet is non-psb approved

anyone from bike insurance company care to comment?

I read one thread before. There was this guy who made this point about wearing DOT-recognised helmets as compared to PSB approved ones.

He mentioned that DOT is a worldwide recognition. and it really is. btw he's wearing a DOT helmet which has no PSB approved sticker. He said something like "DOT is a recognised worldwide benchmark for helmet safety standards. U think PSB is?" I think this is a very strong point.
