Ok, just let me try it on my own first, as I have not really taken the bike apart yet. Everything should be easy to do once you remove the fuel tank which looks like it is just held in by 2 bolts.

Anyone here got an idea how much it is to change a Suzuki Bandit's front disc brake? Stock or cheap one, no wave disc or such...

Cheers

or you could try checking out the scrapyards, since the bandit's a common bike. sometimes guan hoe might be able to help, they sometimes have used parts lying around.

Thanks,

Anyway, I was thinking of scraping some inverted forks off a Suzuki GSX400, hopefully a SP model.

List of stuff I need to do

===============

1) New tires, old one got 2 nails, just patched them up.

2) Brake disc, front one must change.

3) Side Panniers - Givi E36

4) Givi screen.

Cheers...

Hmmm, sprockets? What ratio/differentials you going to try? I think the one on a GSX 400 is ok. As for handlebar grips, kelantan lane has plenty...

re sprocks: i've used the gsxr4 sprocket sizes before. i think it's mostly psychological, but i seemed to miss the original sizes. especially when getting off from the lights.

re pipes: no idea at all. i'm not a pipe kind of guy...

Just a question, what is a good set of tires for the bandit? I want a really thick one! And at the same time, not too expensive. This bike is a budget thing for me...

Thanks for the advise, anyway, I did not mind paying that bit more for the Bandit, most maintenance I do myself as I lost alot of faith in mechanics, although there is this one guy along desker who does a great job on my old bike, dont know if he knows how to do a bandito.

I noticed a few things about the bandito.

1) no dipstick to check oil.

2) Either I am really weak, or it has an almost impossible main stand.

Just a few more questions, where do I find my coolant reservoir? I suspect it is under the fuel tank, next, anyone here using aftermarket speedo? I got spoilt cause my old ride had a digital speedo, and the bandito has a really weakly luminated analog meters, maybe I need to change the bulbs?

Lastly, how much is a new brake disc? Nothing special please, stock only, I promised my gf I will not tinker with this bike, only with my next ride, which I hope is a Ducati.

Cheers

My ride

For the bandit there is a oil window to check the level of engine oil.

The main stand will be harder to push up if you rear shock is gone. It takes slightly more strength and a bit of technique to put it to main stand.

I had took out the whole radiator and clean it up together with all the coolant hose as well. I would suggest you remove the hose clip and let the coolant drain out then to use the drain plug cause the plug is a small screw and it might break as it is so many years liao.

The coolant input is under the oil tank and the reservoir is under the tank as well.

I also DIY the rubber gasket for the valve cover as mine started cracking and harden. I had my exhaust wield with a stainless steel exhaust pipe from a fzr400r exup. Previously it passed inspection and no problem with LTA.

I dismantle my speedo and odometer and clean it up and changed all the bulb to white LEDs. Look much brighter than the normal bulb.

I had two E36 and one 40L topcase on the bandit as well... Pannisers all sold including the wing rack for $450 to one of the forumer.

Most of the parts i replaced are mainly 2nd hand parts from Chong Aik. They are fairly good in the bike and they are friendly guys as well, and other good thing is i have a spare bike from them to ride around before i get back my bike.

Other then major stuff, most of the thing is DIY.

I think i do have the manaul for the bandit P but it is a fairly big file. Basically mine served me three good years without any major problem.

Wow, that is really interesting stuff. Ok, think I will start working on the bandit as soon as possible, with 2 bikes now, so not so free. As for the engine, I wanted to know if I can get the rubber carb manifolds still?

Cheers

rubber manifolds: i think you can definitely get them at KS. i managed to get some for my kawa concours, from evershine, and they can order if you're okay with waiting 1 mth. if even kawa has parts, i'm quite sure suzuki will have too :)

tyres: there should be many tyres available, since 17" 110s and 150s are quite common. maybe you should just read up a bit on the net (try googling?) and decide which kind of tyres you want? i've only ever used Metzeler ME33s (obsolete, replaced by Lasertec now), and they were okay. nothing else to compare with... so no idea. quite adequate for how i rode.

Heh, I haven't got a bandit anymore. So.... Guess I'll pass?

BTW i passed by KS (it's almost immediately opposite LAB) yesterday, so i checked the price of carb manifolds.

Cylinder head to carb: approx $110 for 4

Airbox to carb: approx $70 for 4

Wow, that is expensive. Technically my bike is still under warranty for one month, can I ask the shop to replace it as it is leaking?

no idea... varies from shop to shop right? i guess you should try and talk to them about it.

how many rubber pieces are bad? maybe you should just change the bad ones. can possibly try to find "recond" parts...?

Hey guys, just went to ah boy, a brand new front brake disc will cost me at least $220! That is alot! Online got a guy offer for 30 pounds, but I don't know what kind of condition it is in. Are there any "bandit graveyards" where I can get it cheaply? Preferably less then $50?

Will be going back to the shop where I bought it from as the engine oil is leaking on the right hand side, I guess it just needs a new gasket, and they better do it since the bike is still under warranty!!!

Cheers...

Welcome to the club, anyone here has experience stripping out the speedometer and tachometer? I want to take mine out to airbrush the needle pointer and at the same time change the bulbs to the brightest ones available.

Hi guys,

Recently got myself a bandit, i have a few queries from the experiences of those who have rode this model longer: Are the stock rotors very soft? 6000km into the ride and i noticed even the original suzook pads have already eaten slightly into the rotors.

Yes, mine too were eaten up really badly, shop changed it for me. Anyway, a brand new rotor will cost at least $200. I will be changing over to the "braking" pads soon.

Cheers
