hmmm...how does yar centre stand runs out of ground clearance? i thought the footpeg is suppose to be wider?

anyway my fazer also the rear shocks are more on the soft side still trying to adjust n play ard with the settings hope it helps. At the no $$ to invest in Ohlins or Penske....so have to bear with it till i ord n start working la. Unless there is a gd offer for 2nd hand ones.

i don't actually know what touched, but i often feel scrapes... and my friend saw sparks at night at the bandar nusajaya u-turns back to SG... and the pegs are unscratched even up til now. so i figured should be the mainstand (the lowest point is where u grind it into the ground as a pivot, so it's already scratched up and we can't tell if it's the thing scraping, but probably it is la).

hmm...i suppose the foot pegs stick out more but they're higher too (think hi-mount exhausts). i'm guessing the mainstand really goes very low once my rear-shock compresses. maybe the problem is the shock and not the mainstand... perhaps if the shock is good the pegs will touch before the stand? i'm not sure at all.

i'm looking at getting a wilber's shock for my current bike in the not-so-near future. it's of very good build too, and the non-adjustable ones are very attractively priced. many good reviews on advrider and other forums, for big bikes like the GSes, v-stroms etc. the basic shock (adjustable preload only) is high 300+ USD. adjustments, and remote adjust controls add incrementally to the cost. i figure for a guy like me i probably won't need to touch the adjustments much, so a basic one with remote preload, plus increased ride height, will do.

here's a link:

http://wilbersusa.com/wilbers/index.htm

the local v-strommers did a mass order a couple years back (if i remember right).. and they seem to like it a lot (i saw when i was lurking in their forums ;p).

I saw a bandit for sale at 1.8k at an industrial park. I know very little about bike and have no friends riding bike also(but have been riding an rxz for 2 years). May I know how to check if the bike is a good buy or not? Generally, do you guys think it is safe to buy from those shops?

Here are some common things to look out for.

Engine - hear for rough rattling noises.

open n close throttle suddenly(to 3-4k rpm) hear for if any rattling sound. (if timing chain is loose or tensioner spoil)

If u really wanna go all out to test gradually bring up the engine speed to abt 8-9k rpm aft warming up n see any white smoke. (loose piston rings or worn out valve seals.)

If u can test ride, notice rpm n speed indication they shld increase together when bike is moving, if rpm goes up n speed increase very slowly, clutch plates are worn off.

Shocks - (front fork) lock front wheel n push yar body weight on the front n check for compress n rebound. Look out for worn seals n leakages or scratchs. for the rear jus sit n bounce to see is the rear shocks too soft.

Check for wheel alignment. SEe if the rim has any free play when u hold 2 opp end n shake the wheel.

Check steering cone. If there is a centre stand, lift the front n turn the handle bar left n right to see if there is any restriction.

check swing arm bearing by pushing the swingarm to see if there is any free play.

electricals...there is no grantee. unless u can use a volt metre to test the voltage across the batt.

others will be the normal stuff like tyres, chain, sprokets, cosmetics conditions of wires n cables (throttle, clutch cable, radiator hose, paintjob, if anystickers feel to see if there are any cosmatic damages hidden under the decals)

i personally thing the most important thing is the engine n shocks as these can cost more than the bike itself.

but for a bandit which is not jus old n often might not have been take care of its difficult to get all the things i mentioned is my previous post. But the rest of the stuff u can tell u much more u might have to spend on the bike. Frm there its for u to decide.

hey ashraf!!! long time no see... how're you? we should go out sometime soon lah. maybe if you're meeting the nus R6 riders ask me along too (there'll be 2 soon i think)?

anyway that's quite off-topic, so...

new bandit parts are easily available overseas, it's a very popular bike. have you tried searching online? i'm sure they're easily available (i recently bought some OEM parts from http://www.bikebandit.com, they're quite easy to deal with, and they sell accessories too). m-technic also seems to bring in a lot of foreign stuff, so maybe you can check with them? think searching online is your best bet though!

So far the only acc i got is a taller touring ermax windscreen from motoworld. The rest of the acc might need to be order from oversea, esp UK as it is a popular bike there.

Some original acc can be purchase from agent but it will not be as nice looking as other brand.

thanks for the replies,

boo, ill look into the webby and yes its been a year, we saw each other last at the port dickson bikefest.

xiowang and rajoana, wow eastern trunk road riding, beats the monotonous lacklustre NSH drone anyday. Where u guys planning to head up to.

bigwhiz, the windscreen is prob third on the list, a distant third given the price on its head. Do u plan on putting on crash bars/ sliders? And do u find the front end a tad light.

I got the crash bar the day i took the bike. Got the bike shop to custom it from Seng Kwang.

The front dont really feel light. Maybe because the bike is heavy enough to push it down.
