well...i hope too...thanks...my last bandit,i was halfway projecting it and have to sell becoz a friend was selling his dominator at an unresistable price...

but eventually,the buyer of my bandit,did not pay me the remaining $200 and gone MIA...blardy ******....

 

anyways,always wanted to project a V-engine...the 400cc is best as for now,at least it will be a low cost in insurance and tax and also will be better fuel consumption than the 650cc..besides,incase in bad times ahead which i have to sell my bikes,i was thinking the 400 would be easier to sell than the 650 as people with class 2b who just got their class 2A,the chances of getting a budget 400cc rare V-twin.

i have owned 2 bandits before...but i would always love to own an SV as it's v-twin...have always a fan of V-engine instead of inline...

So,finally,i just put some deposit,and maybe in 2days times once the transfer is done,i settle the full payment and the bike will be towed to my house after inspection...

It's is still in run down state...

 

This is the bike early this afternoon...it's been in layout condition...even no battery inside the bike...but managed to get the bike started...it sounds great....able to idle,even i rev the trottle you can feel the bike is in great condition,no knocking sound whatsoever...i checked on the milege,it's only 61k km...not bad...

but 1st thing 1st...i saw the rightside forkseal busted,immediately asked the mech to help me get it replace.

Go to NTUC for insurance,back to the shop to pass the insurance,photocopy of my ic,some deposit and tomoro they will sent the bike for inspection...

In 2 days time,the bike will be at my place...then,we see what's the next thing need to be done...wash the bike...

another good looker Suzuki bike on sgp roads. SV is a rareity. was the first bike i see with half farings way before fazers...the red SV is a good looker!

the only V-engine that made me go gaga was RVF...

dont know much about SVs as its a rare bike on sgp roads.

guys.. im a new GSF400 biker... and im really noob at maintenence stuff like EO change .. oil filter change.. etc etc...

 

the help from you guys will deeply appreciate by me.. cos im so eager to know all this stuff.. before this its been like a month of me riding.. hmm to be honest.. i've got no riding experience at all.. i straight away jump to class "2a" bike.. thats the GSF400 .. so i got zero knowledge on bike maintenance...

 

let me introduce myself... I'm khai, a noob and inexperience rider. I jump straight to class 2a bike because i got the chance to use my dad's old bike.. the GSF400 .. ( oh yearh btw its a FM plate...)

 

I'm just a sub-rider under his name.. and I don't know pretty much all... in terms of servicing, maintenance, refueling/mileaging...

 

i depend much of the knowledge from my super4 friends.. but i know its somehow different...

 

I also everytime bug them to go with me to the bike shop..(in the end no responds) cos I don't want to go alone.. and get chopped.. but most importantly.. i don't want later finish servicing and then later got problem... the most "leceh", "mah fan", troublesome problem... to go back and see mechanic... especially when you are so happy travelling.. then discover got problem..

 

 

 

so my very first question..

 

ENGINE OIL

-how do i change my EO ? i know is to go bike shop.. but before i go to the bike shop looking dumb dumb... I need to know how many bottles they use, the price of one bottle approximately, what types of EO should i use for my bike because I know there's alot of types and brands like shell,esso, maxima (which i dont know what is that.. cos i read on the forums..) etc etc...then the semi-synthetic, fully synthetic , minerals type of EO... etc etc etc...

 

so which one should i use? the total charges for doin such services.. bottom line, how much does it cost me to change EO my bike?

-What about oil filter? do i need to change one? because as this is an old bike and my dad told me that I need to change it as he doesn't oftenly travel far distance with that bike (as he works at woodlands industrial and stays in woodlands..) If I need to change, how much will it cost me ?

 

 

 

ELECTRIC COMPONENTS

-Signal Lights. I intend to change to the LED ones.. is it possible? Do i need to purchase the parts separately or does the bike shop has it available.. i mean generally...?

 

Besides that, most importantly the spark plugs.. as i know every big bike has to 4 spark plugs right? (this is what my friend told me..)

and once again... i know spark plugs also has different kind of brands.. so which one should i use..? i heard there's NGK and .. something...but thats for smaller bikes that i check up at other forums.. don't know whether its suitable for bigger bikes...

 

How much will it cost me? ( oh yearh btw my front left signal light is not working ... )

 

 

 

PAINT JOB

-I've some key scratch on my fuel tank.. and it looks pretty ugly... do you think I need to do a whole paint job or just that affected area..?? yet again.. i can't afford to do a whole paint job for the bike.. cos im a full time student.. (income so little.. only work one day) .. then what if i just want a paint job at the affected area..? is it possible?? How much will it cost me?

 

 

MILEAGE

Mileage. So far I've refuel 3 times all in JB .. (tag along with my friends that is) the highest refueling i've ever done was about 11 litres... yet i still dont know whats the mileage for the fuel that i've topped up... =\

How do i check on to this mileage thingy and may i know whats the full tank for gsf400 ..? is it the same as the rest of the bandit bikes? I estimate its about 14 litres including reserves...hmmm...

 

 

MISCELLANOUS

err and oh yearh.. my gear lever is like loose.. is it normal..? or do i have to do something about it?

 

My box has no lock.. because my dad told me that some bugger has been trying to picklocked the box.. and thus I've been using the bungee that my friend gave me.. I promised him to give him back when i done fixing the damn box...

 

 

and there you go... the list of my noob problems.. or should i say every riders problems who are still new like me... i'm prepared to get knock on the head.. (but my family pay zakat so head cannot play play ar..maybe tap on the shoulder can.. ) anyway.. i seriously need to know all these stuff.. before i make my debut visit to any of the motor shop here in singapore...

 

could any kindful soul/s help me out on this matter?

 

Oh yearh...for those who curious how do i use the bike... I use it just for transportation.. strictly transportation.. cos I work part time at changi airport... and sometimes to school.. at Singapore Poly... (actually once ar ) and the location that I'm staying is at Yishun...

 

 

so roughly .. first thing in mind is that.. I just wanna change my EO, replace my oil filter and probably my signal light...

 

how much does it cost in total.. ?

"how do i change my EO?" if what you mean is you wanna do it yourself, remove a nut on the lower left hand side of the engine and engine oil will flow out. thereafter, screw it back, then pour new engine oil into the engine on the right hand side.

 

mineral oil mostly used for new engine that is still running in. i think you are advisable to use full synthetic oil which will cost around $20+/- per litre.

 

if you are observance enough, you will notice on the right hand side of the engine, there is some craving that say "Engine Oil 2300ml". but then it's hard to measure 300ml, so i believe most mech will pour in 2.5l of EO. (3l if with oil filter change)

oil filter as advice by guan hoe... change it with every alternate oil change. cost around $8-10 if i am not wrong.

it's possible to change to LED 1... but LED use lesser voltage than bulb, hence you might need a relay else you will end up with a very fast blinking signal light.

 

get the LED signal light from ah boy or in this forum after that go to your trusted mech and ask them fix it up for you.

for the spark plugs... go and read the previous pages. some other people had mentioned the code name of the spark plug which i had forgotten.

no money then skip the paint job. cheaper way would be to paste some stickers over those scratches.

on your next top up, reset your trip distance to zero. then travel as per normal until your next top up. after that look at your trip distance. total distance divide by the amount of petrol you pump in, you will get your fuel consumption. from there how many litres u pump in, you can roughly gauge how many km it can last you.

old bike... live with it. you can go tighten the nuts behind, but it wont make you feel brand new.

The guys here always reccomended Guan Hoe, BUT i must say i dont go there before...so i may be of little help here.

Bandit GSF400 does not use the ECU speed signal. Speed signal is mechanical, with the cable from the front wheel to the speedometer (old-school).

ohh... i'm somewhere in the 300+ region... if you see a bandit with a stupid key scratch mark.. thats mine..

 

anyway.. i already did an eo + oil filter change.. kena $104 ... at Si Moh i think the name..

 

using normal spark plugs also... using bardehl EO fully synthetic i think... the **** part is i forget to take the remaining EO... first time ma.. so tis gonna be a lesson...

 

my friends uncle shop at eunos also.. but i just donno how to go there.. i could get about $90 for eo+oil change+spark plug...

 

well anyway..

oil filter is about $6-$8 (price from KS/GH)

spark plug... you say normal 1, so maybe cost around $5 each?

engine oil... fully syn cost around $20 and above.

 

everything add up to about $90++

so can't really say chop lah. maybe it's like got circumcised instead? :cheeky:

HKL is doing rebuilding of suspension so maybe you can go check it out? click here

 

if not, in the earlier pages, someone used the shock from old model of gsxr750. i cant rem if it is plug n play or need to modify a little bit.
