i do up at GHC serangoon... that's where i normally do up my bike...

 

shop near mah motors... or near ASP serangoon.

 

can try there lor... mayb the mechanic ride liao say ok u no need to change liao...

normally, it will be sluggish acceleration, engine feels weak... get a experience mech to test for you... those experience one... know how to 'feel' without opening up your bike...

Any senior out there pls advise me where possible...

 

I'm going to change my clutch plate and clutch spring coz I suspect my Version S high fuel consumption is caused by that. Also, sometimes when I change or drop gear, e.g. 6th-5th or 3rd-4th etc, the sound tak tak very loud leh...I'm worried that my gears are spoilt.

 

A) Has anyone here changed clutch plates b4? Got change clutch spring also?

B) How do you determine if the gears are spoilt? Wat are the symptoms of spoilt gears? And if wanna change roughly how much damage to the pocket??

 

Thks to anyone who could provide advice...Any advice are welcome....

clutch slip when going high rev..u will find when u going high rev in higher speed and rpm will slightly jump higher or drop gear when u never change it....clutch spring change to performance spring for better and faster grip..but clutch cable worn out faster... below 200 should be able to get it done..or even below 150...

change clutch plates will cost $110-$120...not more....but for S4 no need to use performance/sports springs...not much diff after install...

Thanks for all the reply guys...However, I dun experience a drop in gear when I dun change it and my rpm also dun jump higher at high rev leh.... But I suspect the clutch friction plate worn liao that's why when release clutch the transmission of power from engine to wheel got lost....Is this how it works? And wat about clutch cable? Must change altogether too? I mean, clutch plate, clutch spring and clutch cable?? And do clutch friction plate and clutch plate mean the same? Sorry if I sound goondoo.....

try this if u suspect ur clutch plates are worn.....

 

while moving pull the clutch all the way in and release slowly if u hear a thud thud sound before hitting half clutch means ur clutch plates are worn

 

or

 

while stationery pull the clutch and engage 1st gear, if the bike moves forward a bit while the clutch is pulled at the max means ur clutch plate is gone....

 

hope u understand what I'm trying to say...

Another way, if you wanna try,

1. Place front wheel against wall.

2. Engage 2nd gear.

3. Throttle up while slowly releasing clutch.

you engine should die off. If your rpm can go up and back wheel never move, your clutch plates are gone.

 

The loud "tak-tak" sound when down shifting could be because of numerous reasons.

- Engine oil old or not enough

- Clutch lever not enough free play

- Chain too loose..

 

All clutch plates does is to transmit power from engine, to the gear box. Clutch plates for a super 4 last from 80k - 100k or even more depending on rider. Most ppl just change the clutch plates. The springs are pretty hardy. CLutch cable is only changed if it is worn, i.e. the wires coming apart.

 

Best remedy, go to your fav workshop and get a reliable mech to check your bike. Making decisions based on answers here is at your own risk.

Thank you so much for your advices...Also thks to WingZer0....Based on wat you guys said, my clutch plate ok leh.....then wat explains my fuel consumption that's relatively high?....Wat's more when I throttle up, the speed increases very slowly and to one point it seems to peak liao...and it's not very fast I'm talking about....maybe engine old liao, maybe camshaft belt....too many maybe...

clean and synchronise your carb? Check tire pressure? Check chain tension? Basically the basic stuff first before you venture into the engine.

 

What you're describing doesn't sound like a problem...how you know other Ver S accelerate very fast at the same throttle opening?

 

Btw, clutch plates has a friction pad that grips and rubs against friction plates, which are plain metal plates....confused?

I've checked those basic stuff liao leh.... Becoz I've rode another Version S previously at work, I compared the two and mine really a bit unusual tat's why...

1) Excessive noise when in gear and/or in neutral

2) Slipping out of gear (Clutch slippage)

3) Difficulty in shifting gears

If i'm not wrong....ur rpm is abnormally high...eg...for a vtec 1...at 6k rpm..speed of bike is abt 95kmh....if rpm is 7k and speed only 95kmh...then it may be one of the clutch plate.

Was quoted by Unique - $120 for Clutch plate + Gasket (they advise to change together with Engine Oil - Total : $150)

I think in the components parts section they write Bikeworks Clutch plate + Gasket $110

 

Riding a Vtec1, note sure if its the same. But should be right?

Heard some people say change clutch plates no need to change EO...but the engine oil first touch the clutch area when pour into the engine...so I'd rather change engine oil.

I've taken pics of my bike when I changed my coil and clutch plates...do check out the pics so that you have a better picture.

Change of clutch plates about $110 + EO , total wud be $150+

Hey bro,

I juz had my clutch plates changed @ Planet yesterday....Ah Chong charged me $110 including gasket & no need to change ur engine oil coz they raise the bike so the engine oil moves to the other side. I recommend that you go down there coz is he doesnt find it necessary he wont force u to change ur clutch plates....Tell him that you come from SBF he will give u the smile you have been waiting for hehehe...

how long is the process?

the whole process abt 1-2hr so as the gasket glue can be set.

 

juz assume

if clutch plate change is 110, 150 -110 = 40 for the eo...

that will be very very.. for u to imagine.

I didn't say that its a must to change the EO...but I prefer to change it...cos maybe it was the d*&m mech at H*# C*@#! touch the 'insides' of the clutch area...so I got this feeling of some debris deposited inside...hahaha..thats just me I guess.

 

Change EO in this case is just 3 bottles of EO and no need change oil filter. If EO costs $12/btl...x 3 wud be $36.

hey hey cool cool

nothing against anyone. juz only nv think that EO will got 12 per btl. as i am using maxima that is why maybe it is is "overkill" haha at min 20 per btl it will be 60 + 110 easily 170.

 

anyway personal belief is that dun use a too low grade oil for ur ride only worry is that it is not offering the protect to the internal.
