Bladers Unite!

Last Monday was a grim day. Was washing and waxing as usual after my KL trip.

Discovered a small crack appearing on the longest side of the triangular opening on the right upper cowl. Only a discerning eye can tell. I've never dropped my bike before, as far as I can tell, no one has bumped onto me.

No scratches there either, but a crack has formed. I took it to BS for warranty claim. Well, these things are covered under warranty anyway.

Service Manager came out to take a look after 1 and a half hr. Poked at it, said that was the weakest link/point or something like that and went back in. Instinctively, went to check the on the left side. To my surprise, found another crack on the same spot the other side. This one is smaller.

When he came out again, I showed him the left crack, and told him what he said made me check the other side as well. Naturally, this Andy guy denied he said that.

Not surprising, as I noticed this guy was full of BS when I took my bike in to change the rear brake cover.

Another guy there wanted to take some pix and send it to Japan, but Andy told him not to. Said Japan did not issue a circular for this, so they're not doing the warranty claim.

What a load of BS I thought. If he doesn't initiate this, how the hell is Japan gonna know, and how the fock are they gonna issue the circular.

This is not an isolated case.

I checked Chilly's bike, true enough, the crack has appeared on the same right spot. The left side, though no cracking, paint chipping has occured.

2 other RR4s showed the same thing, paint chipping has occured, but no cracking yet. It will come soon for those as chipping has occured.

Can you guys check your bikes as well. Let me know if you can't find the spot. If you've got cracked fairing as well, we'll all make a trip to BS this Saturday.

Put your name down is you have cracked fairing.

Affected Bikes:

1. Tashi

2. Chilly

That's BS for you.

And that's why both of my other Honda's are not BS bikes... 'cos it prolly won't make much of a difference either. ;)

Incidentally... I noticed that there's 2 usage of the initials "BS" here... :D

Thank you for your comment about BS. More are welcomed.

Compile a list and send to Japan. This guy is not representing Honda's philosophy well, in fact, he seems to be going the other way if you ask me.

Seriously, when you guys go to BS, do you feel like they're following the philosophy???

I remember a guy went in to enquire about a bike, but no one was interested to tend to him, but when a hot chick (not the bun from Bread Talk) walked in, the old man was wide eyed, gave her full erection ... I mean attention.

Honda Philosophy

Basic Principles

Respect for the Individual

>>>No, this guy has no respect for individual. Make customer wait for 1.5 hr just to hear his bull. Implies that customers are liars, said due to external fault, only we know what we did. By saying that, he can thinks he can push away all responsibilities. We pay premium for warranty, but only get to hear his bull.

The Three Joys (the joy of buying, the joy of selling, the joy of creating)

Company Principle

Maintaining a global viewpoint, we are dedicated to supplying products of the highest quality yet at a reasonable price for worldwide customer satisfaction.

>>>Dedicated to perfecting the art of taichi maybe.

Management Policies

Proceed always with ambition and youthfulness;

Respect sound theory, develop fresh ideas, and make the most effective use of time;

Enjoy your work, and encourage open communication;

>>>Before I can finish stating my case, he was rushing in to hide in the building.

Strive constantly for a harmonious flow of work;

Be ever mindful of the value of research and endeavor.

At Honda, dreams are what drive us. We got our start with an auxiliary engine-equipped bicycle in 1948, and have continued to deliver innovative products that contribute to the mobility of individuals and the well-being of society. We respect people and value their individual differences, and this has led to a free, vital corporate culture that encourages creativity. Today, Honda develops and produces its own original products and technologies for a diverse range of markets, from small power product engines to scooters and sports cars.

Honda has always sought to provide genuine satisfaction to people around the world. We are striving to deliver the products and services that customers in each locality want most. To ensure that we meet local needs, we go beyond establishing local sales networks; we have structured our operations so that many of our products are not only manufactured, but also developed in the regions where they will be used. The result is over 120 manufacturing facilities in 29 countries outside of Japan, producing the motorcycles, automobiles, and power products that bring us into contact with over 15 million customers each year.

At the same time, Honda recognizes its social responsibility as a corporate citizen to be proactive in pursuing solutions to environmental and safety issues. We are working to reduce our impact on the global environment at all stages of our operations, from development and production to sales. By implementing policies to improve the efficiency with which we use energy and other natural resources, reduce the harmful emissions and increase the fuel efficiency of our products, and create Green Factories, we are helping solve the world’s environmental problems.

As a manufacturer of mobility products, we also consider it our responsibility to create cars that are safer not only for occupants, but for pedestrians as well. We are committed to promoting safer driving and to making mobility safer for everyone

Tashi, you should then talk to that guy and ask to see his manager. If all else fails, threathen to write in to Honda regarding their service level. Make noise!

The premium you pay for a BS bike should get you back the service that you deserve!

same case at http://www.1000rr.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=3557

tat's why i didnt go for BS bike. poor service from dealer and honda's warranty is juz all gimmick except if there's worldwide recall.

One possible cause

I want to preface this by saying I am not saying this is what happened in this case, so do not think I am saying anyone here screwed up their own bike.

That said, I have spoken with a friend that works as a tech in a dealership, and he has told me what problems he has seen with Honda plastic on the 1000rr, and why his customers have had fairing breakage in the same locations as what clutchslip has described/shown.

At the mating location of the upper to the lower that sits just below the bars, there is an allen bolt, then upper fairing plastic, followed by mid-fairing plastic, followed by upper fairing insert plastic. There is a well nut just like that on the windscreen that holds this all together. My friend tells me that when removing the bolt, the well nut will sometimes spin down into the insert plastic and come to rest there after the bolt is out. Owners have apparently not noticed the well nut's original location (Mid fairing plastic) and when putting the fairing back together, have left the well nut sitting only in the insert, which places too much stress on the fairing pieces, as they no longer have the upper lip of the well nut to tighten down to. This stress causes the fairing to crack and break easily with any stress whatsoever placed on them. My friend says they either break on installation, or on the first wheelie.

Now again, I am not saying that this has been the case with anyone here at all. All I am doing is getting the info out so that it does not happen to anyone here. My friend has told me this is a common occurence, and Honda is not covering it unless it happens within one week of the speedo recall, or any other service performed by a Honda technician that would have required mid/upper fairing removal.

Thanks Eddy, excellent info.

So, Honda Japan knows about this. How come Andy is claiming there's no circular on this?

I think I will ask for a full refund. Fortunately I have done no mods on the bike. This is poor warranty coverage, not to mention I have to listen to his BS. Even with sliders installed, it doesn't affect the top cowl, as they are separate pieces.

I should buy a PSP (Playstation Portable) and take the public transport from now till a VFR1200 comes out. With a PSP and Grand Turismo game, I can imagine driving a different car to work everyday.

This is form BS's site. Better copy and paste it here as evidence. Later they might ask someone to take it out. I wonder what kind of direct support from Honda factory.

12 Months/Unlimited Mileage Warranty

Directly supported from Honda factory

Insist on an Original Honda Factory Warranty Card for your purchase.

Even if the fairing is replaced, it will still crack in the future unless they issue a permanent fix. They should give extended warranty for this.

Better put another evidence here in case the other site goes down.

Could be there. Slide your finger along the insides. You can feel the paint uneveness. Right side is more prone.
