I was coming out of the Gelang Patah road joining the 2nd Link highway to go back to Singapore. As I came out of the left hander slip road to join the highway.. I started accelerating hard. As I just picked up the 3rd gear passing l60 kmh... I heard a 'piak' sound coming from below the bike, and the back wheel of the bike spun and swerved aboUt as thoUgh i had hit a sandy patch. Thanks to the HESD the bike stabilised itself very quickly oR else i woUld have gone into a tank slapper.

I looked into the mirrors and saw in my tailights what seem to be like a dust or smoke flying everywhere. I looked back at my meters and saw the oil light flashing intermittently and then become steady. I knew I loSt oil pressure so I pulled in the clutch immediately and coasted to a stop. I got oFf the bike and saw oil dripping from beloW the fairings. First thing i felt foR in the dark was the oil filter, it was there and dry...next was the oil drain plug.. it was there but was coated in oil. It was too dark where i was so i decided to push the bike to a lighted area.

All old farts like me shoUld ride CBR uFireblades. At least i could push the bike easily even uphill. Could imagine if it was an ST, Haya or wing. I would have died oF heart attack.

And the rest is histoRy.

By the way.. the Raptor flies again. The bike was repaired at Loois by Meng Tong, Took him 5 houRs to fix the bike.

As recommended by him to which I agreed he also took the opportunity to remove the catalyst material from the oRiginal pipe. Now my bike runs aboUT l0 degrees cooler than noRmal as predicted by him.

Trying to figuRe oUt why it does so as predicted by him. By right there is nothing restricting the exhauSt floW from the engine to the yoshi, its all straight hollow throUgh pipe now. So hoW come the engine runs cooler. Hmmmmm

Fairing paint problems,NO.

Fairing hairline cracked.YES.(Tashi)

Anyway, under warranty. He managed to claim for it.

Fairing paint problems exist for the black/silver model in Europe.

A few owners there noticed discolouration at the silver fairing (near radiator)

I'm having the same colour but so far so good !

He used a screwdriver and punched the hell out of the whole thing. It breaks very easily into pieces and he poured it all out.

Normally if you go to the other shops, they will cut the chamber open and remove the catalyst material before soldering it back. What Meng Tong did,,, you could not tell the difference externally. The catalsyst chamber is located behind the heat shield very close to the right foot peg. It is where the 4 exhausts join into one.

Right now there is only a catalytic converter at my street legal Yoshi end can. The OEM one has been removed. Now my pipe is a hollow thru flow with no restrictions.

Only strange thing is... the bike is running at least 10 degrees cooler than before.

It's an irreversible process.

While a full exhuast system will have the linkage at the top part of the header which supply the back pressure, the stock catalytic converter is the so called ''Honey Cone'', which act as the back pressure for our bike.

Raptor, i really is in a maze.

The street legal yoshi u guys bought is an end can plus the mid pipe rite?

The stock exhuast catalytic converter is at the mid pipe.

So should have gone when u changed to yoshi.

How come the catalytic converter still there?

And the Street legal yoshi still have another catalytic converter?

That means jerry, u r running on 2 catalytic converter?

I had my stock catalytic converter taken out at seng kwang and it is recommended by meng tong.

He can do it himself still ask me to go seng kwang...

Although the work by seng kwang can make my bike ''legal'' from outside, but for the price i paid for, i m the greeniest lobert head in sg man.

Guess what's the reason for the high charges?

Cos the pipe very hard to take out.

And i was there thoughout the process, turn out is they spent most of their time figuring what to take out like bolts and nuts.

While sporting take out the CBR1000RR pipe as simple as ABC...

But my temperature never drops.

It remains the same.

How strange...

And yes, my catalytic converter which they took out is located at the pipe near the right footpeg.

Maybe i should pay meng tong a visit soon.

Maybe i should pay meng tong a visit soon.

First we have the headers from the 4 cylinders going below the bike to join up from 4 pipes into 2 into 1. Just before the joint to the mid-pipe is where the honey combed catalytic coverter is located. (The squarish bulb along the exhaust pipe just at the right footpeg.)

Street legal Yoshi comes with the end can and mid-pipe. So when I put in the Yoshi, the original catalytic coverter was untouched. What was removed was the exhaust control valve that was mounted along the midpipe about six inches after the joint, almost under the rider's seat.

From the brochure... there is catalytic material in the end can of the street legal Yoshi.

But with Fitch's in the tank, the emissions from the exhaust would be low.

With a lesser restricted exhuast system... the pickup should improve but I think the top end would be affected as there is not enough backpressure.

Hmm will check that out later in the afternoon at Pasir Gudang track, hopefully.

now u take out that, i believe the power even better man.

Well, i think top speed is not an issue to u, if not u will not get the cbr1000rr liao.

Jerry, take out cat only will feel alot of difference from stock liao.

With pipe... Power!~

BLACKHAWK DOWN !!!

On 03/03/05 @ 8.19 pm I received a S.O.S sms from Raptor.

The sms wrote 'Call me.Emergency.Need help'

I called Raptor & he told me his bike broked down @ gp nearby gp esso

towards sg.

He also told me his engine pan hit something & there's a hole about a

10 cents coin.He said he was lucky that he did not 'buang' !

His rear tyre, rear brake disc & almost everything @ the rear was covered

with engine oil !

I quickly left home & proceed to his location.

Upon reaching there,I saw him under the bridge nearby to gp esso.

Since I did not have a rope with me,we had to wait for Mike zx10 to come.

Mike brought along a rope & we towed Raptor bike all the way to sg &

called a tow truck to ferry his bike.

PICTURES OF HOLE.

I want to say it again..

Thanks alot for your help Bro Chilly. I was prepared to push my bike all the way back to Singapore.. I was not about to leave it overnight on foreign soil.

But I cannot believe that Tashi did not see us!!! Looks like we have to wear dayglow helmets from now on. heheh.

I should have bought cartons of cigarettes and DVDs if I knew what was going to happen at the Tuas checkpoint.

A few customs officers became very kaypoh and came over to look see why a Repsol CBR was being towed by black CBR. When told of the hole in the oil pan... they were looking at the bike... I guess looking for buang marks... so busy they never bother to check my haversack... just busy looking at the bike and asking questions about what happened.

Some more can advise me to be careful while being towed by you....very nice of them.

By the way... closer examination of the damaged area after the oil pan was removed showed evidence of the area being hit by a metallic object.

There were imprints of a fine parallel lines pattern of some sort on the initial impact point.

There were quite a few cameras there today.

Two SBF lady riders were there too... one was Lass and the other was kath3rin3 (sorry if I spelt your nick wrong). They took some shots.

One of them even showed up at Turn 3!! One of them even got a picture of me cruising slowly down the front straight trying to calm my nerves after the backend stepped out when I tried to power my way out of the last corner onto the straight.

Do all Diablo Corsas do that after quite a few laps?? About 12 laps I think.
