Been riding my shadow since morning...and i got a few questions to ask. I tired searching but can't find. So people who know the answer please help to answer.....thanks.

1)How much petrol can the shadow ace 400 tank hold? How much petrol is in reserve?

2)Near the speedo there is 2 red button with icon looking like a reserve petrol sensor & some engine oil thingy, can someone tell me what is it's actual use? Does it light up?

3)When i pump petrol should i always switch the petrol switch to "res" first then pump or can i just pump at the "on" sign?

4)Where is the choke button for shadow ace?

5)Does shadow ace comes equipped with hazard light?

6)Next to the speedo, there is a black button where i can press, i think its for recording how much you travelduring this ride, how do i reset it back to 0?

Thanks people, please advise this poor newbie here.....:cheeky:

Thanks thanks!

Answers to your questions.

1) 14L including reserve of 2.3L

2) Version before 2004 serve as coolant and engine oil temperature if I remember correctly. Got to look at the icon again to confirm.

3) There is no requirement as in which switch you should turn on to refuel, but I would suggest you to remember switching to 'on' when you ride off.

4) It is located below your fuel tank.

5) Nope.

6) Press and hold.

Shadow after 1995 is stated as BC-NV34, not NV400.

The lamp in the top right of your speedometer is engine temperatur. You should hope its not turning ON. If its happen you should stop and cool-down your Shadow, and need to check if your radiator works properly.

Thanks for all the replies, you guys are really a great help!

Oh btw grassmere since you say the top right button is your pic is the temperature button for the engine, then what about the lighted one on the left? What does that do? Is it the temperature button for the Engine oil? or Radiator?

Thanks again!

I think it for oil level indicator. It will be ON when you switch the key on and normally, it should turning OFF when you start the engine.

Oil indicator is ON alert for when the engine oil is insufficient or not circulate properly when engine is running ...

Is there any indicator that will light up to tell that the petrol have hit reserve? or we have to figure it out when the bike can't move?.....:cheeky:

You would feel a sudden stall on the lack of petrol, which would be your indicator that prompt you to turn the switch under the fuel tank to reserve position.

Hi, i'm just wondering if any of you have problem with the original wide handlebar of shadow, i think its too wide and long, why? because while sitting on the bike with my legs gripping the tank, i turn to anyone side with the handle, the handle grip end hits my leg.......hmmm anyone previously have this problem?

If i want to change the handlebar to something less wide, any other cruiser handlebar do you recommend?

Will it be harder to maneuvr with a shorter bar?

Can shadow use harley handlebars?

Please advise, thanks!

Yes, looks like we could swap :cheeky:

I do want the longer handlebars, 'cos it's more stable when riding on the highway.

Yup, Harley handlebars are compatible with our Japanese handlebars. Because they are similar, you are better off going to Jalan Besar area to shop for handlebars instead. I was warned it could be a half-a-day effort to ride around the shops looking for the best bargains.

FYI, my handlebars are the same as the Harley Road King. My company's ex-IT manager has a FN plate Road King. I've parked my bike next to his and did a comparison. Exactly the same!!

Edited to say: The handlebars would always be compatible 'cos they are 1" in diameter. Unless you want a fatter one (assuming you can get it to fit), then you are better off getting a custom made one. I got this info from X-ilED

Maneuverability was never a problem with me since I was riding cruise bike all along thus, when I gotten the Shadow, it was a breeze getting used to it.

If you intend to swap a different type of handlebar, you could check out aunties, lab, regina along Kelantan lane or simply custom made one at Seng Kwang.

Nope. Shadow could not made do with Harley Davidson handlebar due to different in diameter unless changing of your handlebar clamp.

Hi Johan,

I think you were mix up as the Harleys are using 1” handlebar while Japanese cruisers are using 7/8. The work around as mentioned in my previous post is to get the clamp change to accommodate the 1” handlebar. It could be likely the previous owner changed yours, as I have not seemed the new changes for the 2005 model at Yamaha agent.

Cheers.
