Come on bro once black you never go back :)

You know you wanna do it.

Indeed 1st need to sand down not just the contaminated surface but the whole exhaust from end to end and then let loose with the high temp paint spray can.

The accessory wirings in my underseat storage look like spaghetti they power leds, battery charger, hid lights yours are probably not as bad :thumb::thumb:

well, I only hope once its black, it wont turn white or brownish in the long run, thats the very reason my friend discouraged me to gt the black shorty initially, even thou I prefer it black.

after scouring thru the VHT webby, seems like I may need to get the rust convertor also, maybe it'll help on the sanding down part...

Seems like a very long & tedious process, worse, I dont have any professional painter or an oven on hand...

only my minute plastic modelling hobby painting skills...

Oh... the underseat... :giddy:

It took me 1 whole day recently to, sorta, clear it.. but still, it looks like fried noodles in there...

So, I dont see why it aint as bad...

Well my stock black shorty took about a year (25000kms of riding) to start losing colour and go brownish around the headers and bend area so if you don't ride as much they should last much more longer than that.

I got a quote for the job to be done professionally which came out to be AUD275.00. Was advised the colour would look exactly like this:

http://i925.photobucket.com/albums/ad93/ResmeN/Misc/IMG_2196.jpg

It does seem like a long tedious process for somebody like you and me but for those that can do it probably will get it done in a few hours.

Fried noodles you say mmmm wouldn't mind some mi goreng now :)

well, if you'd read my post in the Tires thread, my mileage per year is about what you'd quoted!!

sadly, thats due to my job nature to ride around locally more than further up north..

I guess that if its black, then I hv to live with the discolouration due time..

mi goreng? :hungry:

my black shorty also starting to rust at the bends of the header. no idea how to make it like brand new again. I went to Seng Kwang but they told me that no matter how u spray and with what, the shorty will still rust.

If Im not wrong, its because of the materials used to form the pipe.

Thus, no matter how many times you try to restore the black, it'll turn colour again due to the heat.

Something like the OEM headers.

Even Stainless Steel materials will sorta "rust" due to the exposed contamination to the openings.

The only material that I know that wont really "rust" would be Titanium type of materials.

It'll turn orangey blue-ish when heated up, & wont really have those pesky "rustic" outlook if Tender Loving Care(TLC) is given..

After my exhaust has been painted I'll post some before and after pics to make it easier for you to make up your mind. I will be using 2 cans of above linked vht flame proof exhaust/manifold paint. Will see how it holds up down the track. If I am not happy after a year I will then go down the path of ceramic coating the header area. I've seen ceramic coating in white/cream/beige colours only so hope it also comes in black though I'm sure it will.

While my bikes getting serviced and exhaust painted I've been getting too many ideas some good some not so good. I've now decided to get the rims & rear sets powder coated in red to match the bikes colour. Looking forward to seeing the end result :bouncefire::cheer::p:)

Can a good samaritan out there photoshop red rims and rear sets on below pics, appreciated :thumb:

I've been wanting to clean up the dirt/browning/scratches etc on my black shorty for a while so as previous posts bought 2 of these paint spray cans to restore the exhaust back to it's original colour & condition.

Sprayed the whole pipe from end to end bro. Took it apart and sprayed the joints as well. Sprayed extra coats around the header and end areas as they seemed to brown the most.

Never realised just how dirty the underside of it actually was. From looking at above pic it looks yucky.

Right, wicked...

Did you sand away(if any) the rusts? Or coat it beforehand with VHT's Rust Converter before coating on the black paint?

Below was the steps taken order:

- wash and clean exhaust with water & soap

- use degreaser to clean oil and mud from exhaust

- sand exhaust by hand using sandpaper(if rough spots or rust need to use sandpaper machine to achieve desired result)

- wash and clean

- use prepsol on the areas to be painted in my case the whole system

- apply as many coats of vht flame proof paint (make sure it's flame proof not heat proof as heat proof will peel off) especially around headers and bend

Good luck bro.
