If your bike starts everyday..and your battery life span is as per normal...there is nothing wrong with your rectifier. if you really want to know if its still providing the right charging rate capacity..diy if you have a voltage multimeter..otherwise get a mech to do it when you have a chance in a mototiam doing something else. Normally...your battery be dead if its not working as its not charging the battery.

Mine is already 7.5 yrs...if you want to be safe...get a spare unit..about $85 to $95...easy to diy..just two size 8 or 10 hex bolts size holding it, a multi pins plugh in plug that goes in only one way. Loaction is at lower side left where where fuse assembly is.

rectifier spoil will lead to non-charging of the battery...

voltage output from the alternator (coil) will not be corrected properly or stabilised. will lead to battery problems if not replaced quickly.

from my experience... electric starter becomes weak.. unable to start. have to push start everytime. my rectifier after removing can smell 'chao tah' smell.

Check ur fuse box first. In case of any blown fuse. always prepare some spare fuse.

new one for super4 ver s costs around $70~85 (daytona, japan). :D

Hope you don't mind advising on this a bit more...I don't quite understand..rectifier output you mean?

sure. charging system on bike consists of few things..

main coil (alternator) - source of power. creates raw electric supply when the bike revs.. (power is very raw (heavy fluctuations 11v -maybe 15v) volts may not be accurate. "dynamo" effect.

rectifier - from what i know.. it will stabilise and correct the raw electric power to usable (12v-12.5v).

battery - gets stable power from rectifier and then powers the whole bike's electrical system.

Oh ok..you got right just taht the term use is not so clear lah..here is how it should be said...

The aletrnator generates AC (alternate current that's is with a +ve and -ve swing and an axis of zero reference). This AC goes to the rectifier which is actually a "Voltage Regulator" that regulate (rectify) the correct DC (Direct current..a straight line voltage level like 3v, 5v,12v...etc with reference to zero earth depending on the design for the vechicle load). In this case 12v dc to the battery for charging and charging rate depens on battery CURRENT load..like for S4 battery is 8 or 9 Amperes(unit for current) per hour..read as label on battery "8AH" or "9AH".

So in short..a rectifier is sorta of a "AC to DC" converter.

Thanks for your clarification :)

Very likely. Can give FGT or Chong a call to gauge how much iszit or just about any mototiam to get a cost with labour...and can also further verify the probablity of he caused.

Bike has 3 components that work hand in hand...

1. Battery

2. Coil

3. Rectifier

If battery spoilt... dun need to explain... no lights when ignition on

If coil spoilt, no/under charging... battery will eventually get drained...

If rectifier spoilt, over charging occurs... Need a voltmeter to verify. Optimum charging is about 13.8V @ battery...

Install a voltmeter to manage the power system of the bike, but please tap from the battery via a relay rather then the headlight, which is the easy way out.

Hope this helps...
