no wonder i cant find the pic as a skipper

after seeing the log card

its a 1995 model of typhoon 125

looks like i am not getting it

hes asking too much for a 11 yr old bike > 1k

thu i must say it  is pretty well kept

i just cant take a chance with the insides

cheers all

I got a FW plate typhoon, manufactured in 1995 but only register in 2002. Mileage is 39K plus km. Meaning the bike, was not sold and kept in the shop for 7 years until end 2002 then sold off.

Is it the same scenario as yours??

I got mine for 1K, but left fork leaking, missing air filter, auxilliary fuel tank leaking at the neck (only found out after purchase) scratch fairing panel and broken belly pan and signal covers. Loose exhaust protector and vibrating mirrors.

But the alternator, tyres, battery, belts and rollers etc were change less than 2mths. And it came with a givi rack and box.

So far spent less than $20 and fixed most of the stuffs myself.

Bought a new air filter $12.50, fixed the loose exhaust protector (tap the thread and change the screws) and mirror (tighten the LHS grip) and patch the aux fuel tank for $4 . Clean and lube the front fork with WD40 and adjusted the oil pump cam alighment. Check the tyre pressure and adjusted the idling speed higher. Remove the anyhow DIY grounding wire (engine start up easier) and check through the wiring. Basically the scoot is running better than before.

Now left the signal covers, broken belly pan and leaking fork oil seal need to be fixed. Also a new paint work.

HI Whiteoryx

for runner, typhoon

i always tot their

maintence is higher then skipper and vespa

am i wrong?

i only need a transport bike to go to the library

and to the hawker centres around queenstown for my meals

maybe i just get a 5/6 yr old phantom 150

sud be around 1k

maintence wise i think about same

was thinking of getting a shadow 400

the other day but damn afraid the electrics spoil

then cost 500+ to repair

and its about 3k for 2.5more years.... too exp

guess i just have to bear with

our lousy bus system! ( world class my foot!)

cheers

Hi Lawrence, actually Typhoon and Skipper maintenance should be about the same...cos both use belt and have similiar desings. Vespa use gear, no chains or belts. So you only make sure the cables are in good working condition, 2T is added... I believe Runner maintenance should be higher in comparison, you can check with Oryx...

Shadow 400? Meaning you have 2A liao...There's a Bandit going at 1.1k in the classified...chect it out

http://www.singaporebikes.com/classifieds/...hp?siteid=26764

(I dunno the Bandit owner huh...so if you buy and face prob, dun flame me :cheeky: )

Actually Singapore's bus system is really very good liao...you can ask our Malaysian friends and you'll know....motorcyclists have a whole lot of problems that public transport takers don't face (e.g RAIN, parking, insurance, road tax..inspection...speeding fines, demerit points...summons..accidents...) so you need to consider carefully if you don't travel much.

I hear the Honda Phantom TA150 consumes engine oil and doesn't have good FC (meaning higer petrol costs). If you consider the rising fuel prices, you might want to think again (I hope the Phantom 150 riders don't come here to read this :faint: )

Last but not least, I wish you luck in your search and finds what you need :thumb:

4. to s750..... wah pay more then 1k for a 11 year old 125cc engine...thats a little hi ..... i wont pay more ex then 600$...... u just dont know what kind of repairs u will need 3 months down the road

wow, u r pretty good at fixing up...

me, i like to ride, but am a mechanical idiot

The scoot although manufacture in 1995 but was only put on the road in 2002 hence its actual age is only 3.5 years. Can see from the mileage, its only 39000++ km.

From 1995 -2002, it was 'sleeping', meaning the scoot is as good as new because it was not utilised at all.

I would rather pay $1000 for a 3.5 year old scoot than $600 for a scoot which has been used for 13 years old with 120,000++km.

Btw I'm a poor man also, downgraded from class 2 to 2A and now to 2B.

Bad thing about 2 stroke bike is have to top up 2T and the fear of 2T pump failure. So its still better to get a 4 stroke 2B bike e.g wave. if you really want to save $$.

Look at how this guy built up his typhoon 125. Love the fork, rear shock and exhaust. Saw the same fork assembly at WM. Time for upgrade.

Wah Very Nice leh :lovestruck: I really like the shocks and the unique airbox. The light in the helmet bay also doesn't seem to be a bad idea also! Too bad our skipper community here is not enthusiastic on skipper upgrades, if not confirm will be more power sia!

Btw spy, u got any link from angmo land that shows modded skippers also?? :cheeky:

tks for all the info guys

have decided to go ahead and buy the typhoon

prob get it on thursday

hopefully can meet up with u guys this weekend

to find out more, esp from s750wp

since u have a typhoon too

may i know where u got the manual for your ty

checked with lta

the bike prob sat in the showroom or warehouse for 1995-2002

till its registration in 2002

heard from the owner

he rewired it last year and it was all rust inside the front panel

i have had my share of bad luck with 2nd hand bikes

skipper block cant compress

had a virago's shaft die on me after 5 months

a shadow alternator burn out

and a magna's "octupus" disintegrated after 1 year

since the skipper and typhoon are no longer available at Piaggio SG

what were their replacement models? any one know?

cheers

Good to see another Typhoon rider, actually I should be staying quite near your place as you mentioned queensway shopping center.

I bought the skipper manual from yahoo auction initially planning to get skipper. But I told him I wanted the full manual which cover many of the piaggio scoot from vespa, hexagon, typhoon to zip, nrg, ET 4 etc. But then he still photocopy the skipper portion only, hence my manual dont have the spec of the other scoot. But all of the stuffs on maintenance are there.

I have open up the whole front portion and check, no rust found except for the road grime. All the stock wirings have never been meddle before except the main ignition wire and earth wire rubber sleeve split to connect the IU. And a normal wire connect to the -ve of the batt and wound to the frame loosely and black tape.

Woah you are really suay, so far most of the 2nd hand bike I bought also quite run down, but I did alot of maintenance and reapir myself and they never once failed me. Probably suzuki bikes are more reliable.

The newer model to replace skipper and typhoon are skiper 150 I think. In europe there are alot of models but not bought in to sg. The popular ones in sg are X9.

modded skippers I hav come across b4..juz need some search to find it again..but kinda hard coz the bike is no longer in production n itz 125cc so in the ang mo land itz not dat pop as most 16yrs old ther rides a 50cc...

I hav seen a totally beef-up polini skipper pic for race wif aftmkt exhuast, front fronk n rear shocks n so on

hmmm...I wonder who's is it...I hav not seen much of dat fork ard so far only 2pcs n 1 F36r..will it belong to a 3rd person who is crazy abt his ride??

I hav seen a beefed up typhoon locally..looks normal till u really observe...it might even out run my runner.

the typhoon has loads of aftmkt upgrades n even more nice bodyparts than most scoots bcoz in the ang mo land ther is a 50cc version n a gilera version which shares the same body parts...:cheer:

but I guess not much riders here r really interested in dat coz to most them the skippers n typhoons will juz be a normal daily ride till it spoils :D

Looks exactly like the one in the pic except the fork tube is chrome instead of anodised red and the top holding nut is the same anodised blue. Initially I thought it was some cheapo aftermarket stuffs until I saw the same fork on Malossi website.

The fork assembly accroding to WM is from Gilera runner, because he wanted to show me how the Gilera runner fork assembly look like. As he is trying to convince me Gilera runner fork can installed on Typhoon.

Do you happen to know any Gilera runner who upgraded their fork assembly and have a spare one lying ard?? I just need one to replace the leaking one on mine because WM says not servicable.

I still have some doubts because the haynes manual states the procedure of changing the oil seal on typhoon and Zip.

Now I am pending bike lab or teck thye to see if they are able to rebuilt the fork before going to the agent at genting lane.
