Made a trip down to Guan Hoe @ 120 Rangoon Road to view the Burgman 400 K7. Mr Ang was present to let me sit on the bike and point out some key features. Weird thing that I was advised to purchase the bikes from shops (Suzuki Dealers) out there.

Okay, onz!

Oh, I just thought of something..... Remember about the oil loss problem? I just thought of something which might be possible. What if we were to connect the breathe tube to a bottle with an inlet at the bottom and an outlet at the top. In between in the bottle we place a wire mesh similar to the one in the crankcase or simply steel wool and the outlet goes to the airbox. That way, the vapour condenses on the wool an drips to the bottom of the bottle which in turn flows back to the engine when the engine stops running. Steel wool would unlikely flake thus no worries about particles going into the engine. I attached a diagram to illustrate it.

Yup, it should work... but how to get such a bottle? It must be able to withstand the hot oil, and be air-tight to work properly.

Ok here's a few example..

The POSH oil catch tank look a little like this.. With 3 holes.. One for the crank case outlet, one for the EG filler and one to the airbox/air filter.. If u wanna do it like the setup on the RSV or YZ jus cover the other hole.. I know how to do, just that I dunno how to remove the bloody tub under my seat!!! Arrgh

Well, if its empty, it doesn't really serve any purpose does it? there's no filtration involved meaning its just like a longer pipe tats all....

Looks good... but dunno how big this is....

Anyway, the black plastic under your seat is removable by just taking out the two plastic fasteners at the sides.

Think the theory is the oil vapour will 'condense' when reaching the cooler metal?

Yeah but if the bottle is going to be near the engine then its not going to be very much cooler anyway...... :cheeky: Also, the vapour is not just limited to travel at the sides of the bottle. It can also travel at the centre where the colder metal has no effect.

But i was thinking if there was something inside to increase the surface area of contact between the vapour and some metal part then the condensation effect will be better.

Best is to have a flat piece of metal, with small holes inside in the middle.... or maybe a few layers.

That is an idea, but how to find a bottle like that? Even if SK can do that its not gonna be cheap.....

Take existing oil catch tank and modify? Cut open, weld in the plates then weld back together...

Wahhhhh... big project sia..... machiam like technical workshop lesson..... hahahah..... mabbe if i free and my mech nothing to do den i ask him to try.... i'll probably check with him on the feasibility of doing such a thing.

hi,guys!some help needed.

wats the market price for a EFI burgman 400 now?

is 7k a gd buy?

wats the common problems of this bike?

wats the fuel consumtion like?

tks

Depends on which year you are getting. The K3 was ard that price when i bought it last year. But you probably can get it at a cheaper price. Was quoted 7k for a K2 by GHC tat time..... :giddy:

Look ard more. You can probably get a better deal. Gd luck!

Market price shld be $6K +-

Fuel consumption depends on rider.

I average 30~31 km/l nowadays... 340Km on 11L

The worst case for a burgy shld be 24~25 which isnt that bad.

Common major problem, Not that i know of other den EO disappearing ...

After some discussion with my mech i think we may have come up with a solution. Our intention is to use a brake fluid reservoir as the oil tank catch. It can be opened and is airtight. It also already has an inlet at the bottom which is needed. The only thing to do is to drill a hole somewhere at the top of the reservoir and place the tub in and epoxy the gap to make it air tight. Den add in steel wool into the reservoir and voila!

Think this might work?

Arcfire: Sounds like it might just work! but the area is rather small.... and it may be cheap to use an automotive fuel filter as some people have done in the BurgmanUSA forum previously.

Anyway I took out my K&N to wash, and also to see if that helps improve the oil usage problem a bit... now running with oil foam filter, actually I quite like the reduction in noise...

Will monitor 1st for 1 or 2 weeks before deciding whether to put the K&N back.

I'm intending to place the reservoir on the frame of the bike inside the fairing somewhere at the burgman wordings.... so that the bottle will be at a higher level than the breather outlet. Only problem is, i won't be able to see the reservoir.

Yo folks, as earlier mentioned I already went to view the bike at the showroom the other day. I'm still puzzled over the fact that it was best not to buy the bike from the showroom itself but rather at Suzuki's dealers.

Can anybody advise why? PM me if its 'confidential' information. Many thanks guys

Distributor cannot sell at a lower price than the dealers otherwise no dealer will be willing to sell their bikes for them. Does this explain it? :D Standard industry practice. Of cos there are exceptions... :goodluck:

Think it's not... cos when I changed my breather tube it was just a normal pipe without any such attachment...

Really want to solve this engine oil missing issue... :sian:

wah! So the parts came? How is it? And what's the damage??

Yes... after so long they finally arrived..... and you would never guess how much everything cost me..... :faint:

And the interesting thing was, my mech asked around other mechs and they said there have been cases of the washer breaking off as it was bloody filmsy. If you saw the piece of junk you would think so too. And cause it sits at the counter-balancer gear, it gets compressed and released everytime you rev your engine, thus over time it will break, like any other thin piece of metal.

So what other mechs have told him was that once broken, they don't replace it. They simply leave out the washer. The only thing would be that the counter-balancer gear would be abit lose but other than that not observable effects. How true is that i have no idea. So if any of you guys are going for your valve clearance or opening up your crankcase do take a look at it n see if its still there n update us on its condition, whether its really that easy to break off....

Valve clearance? Don't think I'll be doing that anytime soon... unless the engine really starts to behave real weirdly.

I was so fed-up with their slow process of ordering, Now I ordered directly from US.

So much faster, Its take less then 7 days to reach my door......
