Will be careful. I'm not sure how to define technical riding. Skills like turning and stuff and everything.

Going up steep slope and knowing what gear to be in and everything. Then whatever I've learned in SSDC, I will try to practice them over and over.

hmm.. no need purposely go practice .. when you ride long enough , all this will just slowly get into your mind..

to me i prefer to learn on highway even tho is quite dangerous but sometime something have to force u do lanechange..all my fast lane change @ 90km/h +/- learn at highway .. please dont try :cheeky::cheeky:

JUST FOCUS THE WORD IN BOLD , as for rest .. just read for fun =)

my close shave was also because of this, i was joining in from a slip road almost smashed into a van's arse.

Bro install the blindspot mirror, its so cheap and so life saving

hahaha..... anyways soap binteng is right, no need to stress over getting it right bcoz eventually you will get enough experience just by daily commute. Riding is fun but I do enjoy reading that you're trying to improve your technics. Be safe!:goodluck:

Thanks people but maybe the "obsession" to improve is there.

(: And yes, I need to remind myself that I've been riding for only 1mth++

Rode around Geylang before. No way I'm going there again with my bike.

And what's worrying is my u-turn.

I can pull it off but it's really wide.

Narrow divider = i take up 3 lanes

Wide Divider = same as above.

I don't know, maybe I'm going too fast during u-turn or my technique isn't there yet or cork eye.

Soap, "...Geylang.. No way I'm going there again with my bike."

Must stop thinking negatively. Divine is right, its a good training ground. Think of bike riding in the same way as, say, maths problems in school. If its a difficult topic, what did we do? Practice more right? Its like that with riding skills. The more we ride, especially in "tough" conditions, the better we'll be. In fact Geylang is nothing when you compare to say, JB/KL/Bangkok or India or queuing at woodlands checkpoint during peak period.

I remember one of the CDC instructors' advise after practical 8 regarding booking Road Revision, quote "If you book Saturday afternoon or weekday 10am, got challenge or not?"

Also, Binteng said something before about practicing lane change on the highways at 90kmh+ but ended his post with "don't try it". I beg to differ. All riders must be able to ride on the expressways at that speed and be good at lane changing at that speed. Otherwise, can forget about going to Johore. So I encourage you to do it soon because the longer you put it off, the more hesitant you'll become. Of course, intially you may want to ride and practice lane change at lane 2 & 3 (slower lanes). Better if you can get a bro here to go with you. I'm quite busy these few weeks otherwise I'll be happy to ride with you.

Having said all that its great that you're riding more. Keep it up :thumb:

No need to be too conscious about "improving" lah. Besides how do you know you have actually improved? :)

Cheers

haha.. i call him dont try because he still not use to it .. maybe after few more month then try.. i'm alway free to practice at highway =D another thing to me is .. how you going to have conversation with your bike..not as in talking but what you what to do with your bike , can your bike do it ? knowing your bike performance.. the limits that your bike can go =) you and your bike have to be as ONE .. so you have no fear riding with your bike , after you and your bike have become ONE .. thats where the best part of the game/riding getting start...:cool:

i agree with ramsnake, stop thinking negatively. when i 1st brought my bike, 1st 5mins i split lane liao. but my u-turn took me more then 2months to really get use to the weight of the bike and to be alittle more season with the bike, you just got it, take it as a girlfriend whereby you slowly understand her before you come to any conclusion. (=

geylang good place to run, but damn dangerous and got to really really careful.

btw which bike shop you bring your bike go service?

CKA Kaki Bukit recommended. Bad experiences at other branches noted.

I buy my own choice of engine oil (don't like XYZ brand they stock) and bring it to them to change and at same time do other service checks.

if your doing slow U-turns, you will want to do a counter-weight steering(lean out). It helps a lot in slow u-turns.

i recommend you try it in a open space first to get the feel

http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/2519/lean20in.jpg lean in

http://img576.imageshack.us/img576/9240/lean20with.jpg lean with

http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/3143/lean20out.jpg lean out

brief explaination:

lean in: used for high speed steering(most grip)

lean with: normal natural steering

lean out: slow speed turn to counter steer the bike's weight

btw, castrol's eo is the best at cka ubi(most expensive is about $24-25) and yes i stole the manual pics
