Search the threads, you will see in general scooters gives good mileage. Personally, I feel it is really good for city use with more than adequate move-off speed at the traffic lights, cruise-able at 100 - 110 kmh and good protection for the legs when road's wet. I have a touring shield that I felt was a bit too "ah pek" ... but it is so effective at shielding me. I can't comment on pillion accomodation as I ride alone. I do dream of other bikes though ..heehee ... but as a practical means of transport, I am satisfied.

As for mods... hmmm i do have a few in mind, but only when funds or the needs arise lah ... its alright for now..

That's a tough question to ask anybody. The only person qualified to give an answer is probably one who has ridden and owned it all .. :) I really don't know what is a good one among the four you listed.

Every make has its strong following - some prefer aesthetics over everything else. Others are mindful of operating costs. There will be those who wants to buy cheap. There is a general consensus that the japanese models are more predictable in "wear and tear" and more easily remedied due to larger population and the accumulated years of ownership.

My personal preference has always been Yamaha :) .. interestingly, the Majesty's engine is italian designed and some said made in Yamaha's subsidiary in italy. My scooter has to date almost done 88,500 kms. 3 months ago, I stripped away the bodywork and transmission, so I can hear the engine sound without any other noises. It sounded ok, no rattling etc... i do believe it is a rock solid engine!

For me, the choice will be the Majesty :) ... you are in this thread anyway .. so you must accept the biasness ..;) ... the newer X-Max is nice .. looks like a slim down Majesty and I believe it's the replacement model

HL brought in the X-Max? ...wow ...

I guess owners knows what they have and are not selling it yet :) all I know is the engine is the same thru the different generations. Major differences are chasis related ...

I ride a mk 1 - bought at a good price but the uncle did not pay enough attention to it, so my replacement parts are kinda high, then again it is 7+ yrs old so the broken down bits are to be expected.

My dad rides a mk 2, more storage space and nothing else. ... but I prefer rear drum brakes anyway as it is less grabby than a disc brake. Due to the rear weight bias of a scooter, it is easy to lock the rear wheel when rear brake is applied, a disc brake for me is way too much braking power. But then I guess I can get use to it if I have to.

Anyway, all the best for your search ...

S P E E D Q U E S T I O N ....

Could I trouble everyone to list down the fastest they ever clocked on their Majesty? Reason being I suspect my variator surface has worn beyond the limit and I am not willing to change it unless I know for sure. There's no way to measure the variator surface gradient, I guess speed can be some kind of indicator ...

1) Mk 1 - no box, no pillion : 120 km/h

Tried 120, but I think can still go some more. New belt, rollers, u clips, clutch, sponge filter, EO, gear oil and spark plug.

5GM (mk2), no pillion and box.

Any body have any problem with the standard shield? Seems the shield is directing wind onto the helmet. A lot of wind noise from the helmet, but when ducking below the shield no more noise. Any body experience the same?

Sean, clutch as in just the 3 shoes or the whole clutch assembly? my Mk 1 is dead at 120km/h and no more ...

My touring shield works too well that i can't fully close my full face visor, definitely channel air above helmet ... unless i sit totally upright ..

PGO Gmax 250 is ok too .. actually depends on whether the rider prefers wind shield on handle or body .. i think there is an effect on handling ..

The whole assembly. The three rubber stoppers were all worn out and they don't sell them seperately thus the need to change the whole assembly. Actually theres no need to change as the clutch was still in good condition but the knocking sound was pretty unnerving especially while idling the bike.

Where to get the touring shield? thinking of getting the short or even the tall ones as to avoid air directly onto the helmet as it can be quite uncomfortable.

Yup. Will have to go to see him again tomorrow. Main stand spring came off, suspect the bracket for the spring broke. Now using bungee cord to secure the main stand.

Kymco from Taiwan da... Ex-owner of the 250cc. :D

Btw...I used to own all 3 bikes you've mentioned.

At the present moment, for me, I'll steer clear of the X9 due to the prices of the spares. Between the three, I'll take the majesty anytime.

All three bikes didn't give me any problem cos I bought all of them new.

All were pretty good rides up to the time I sold them. Which is usually one year.

Cheap and smooth ride, I'll go for the Grand Dink and the Majesty (both 250cc) This is my personal opinion. Ultimately, you'll have to decide for yourself. :goodluck:

Oops, suddenly remembered that I own the Kymco for 3 months nia...

Reason being I crashed... :D Sold it straight after that and lost $3K(or more, rather not remember) for my troubles. And that's when my favourite scooter was born - scarabeo :cheer: (not to crazy about the support though :weep: )

Sean : "Actually theres no need to change as the clutch was still in good condition but the knocking sound was pretty unnerving especially while idling the bike."

I have the irritating knocking sound.. couldn't trace it .. though I did find out through from one Oz rider that his was contributed by worn variator cams/spacer .. I changed that, my cam was badly worn and the sound stop! ... only for a day ...hahahaha ... so you think it was caused by some sort of loose play in the clutch assembly.. what could it be?

Scarab: How's the new ride? It's the 500? And running piaggio engines?

That scarabeo is history now. It's the 200cc one(actual cc is 176). One of the best scooter I ever owned (except for the spares support). :faint:
