Yeap, the standard of English varies from poster to poster. Some are well written; some are ok; some are, as you say, atrocious. If a poster writes gibberish or uses a crazy font colour or intentionally misspells (my pet hate is saying 'wif' when you mean 'with' - no, it doesn't make you sound cute), I try to avoid reading it or responding to it. Minor spelling errors not counted of course - we all make them from time to time!

To those that hold on to the belief that 'My English is poor, and there's nothing I can/want to do about it', what can I say. If you actually know your English is poor, why not try to improve it? Use the forum as a means to improve your language, as opposed to perpetuating the problem. I've spoken English from day one and still use forums (SBF and foreign ones) to improve the way I express myself in English.

If you intend never to leave Singapore's borders, and you're happy with your lower-than-average command of English, feel free to make no effort to improve. But if you can see yourself being based overseas a while or possibly moving overseas, I would think it's in your best interest to improve your English. Trust me, Singlish isn't seen as cute or endearing anywhere else but Singapore.
