I was in the 14th Intake Newbie Sharing Session on Sat 21st March 2010. Went for the Dirtbikes Workshop Excursion two weeks before and here is my two cents worth.

Firstly, the sessions are pretty informal and relaxed which is good cos you can just mix into the crowd and be invisible if you choose to be. There are always lots of videos of previous rides to watch. The organisers are obviously very passionate about off road riding and it shows. They will answer all of your questions to the best of their knowledge and share all their experiences and knowledge with you. I find it very refreshing cos it was more like asking a friend than asking an instructor in a class room.

Secondly, for all the time and effort put in by the organisers, they hardly cover their expenses. These guys are doing it for the love of it. This is what I love most about the whole deal. No membership fees, no hidden costs. The courses are basically free, but they are open to contributions. I got a full day of training, a tonne of fun doing my trail riding and one of the organisers even threw in a free dinner for us at his house during our newbie meetup session. How cool is that?

You maybe wondering, but how does bro isk do it? I mean he has to have photographers, videographers, road marshalls, walkie talkie sets etc etc. How does he do it? The answer is very simple. Everyone of them is a volunteer. Past participants who are so grateful for what they have gotten out of their learning experience that they are willing to volunteer their time, money and effort for free to help this man and continue to make his programmes available to help other newbies. That is the beauty of the whole system here. Its all voluntary. Its all informal. True, there is no million dollar classroom facility becos its all conducted out of some one's home or cafe or coffee shop, but thats the beauty of it all cos it helps to keep the costs low enough for the common man on the street. Its home grown. Its practical. Its about making the most of what you have and people reaching out to help other people. This is the kind of effort that should be encouraged.

Made some new friends during the newbie sharing session. Honest guys with down to earth jobs who just love off road riding and are willing to share their experiences and know how with u. I am hooked and I will be coming back for the level 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3 and 4. Am even considering volunteering as a road marshall in the future. Looking forward to making more friends on future rides. I stay in the west side of Singapore and I am looking to hookup with West siders for their weekly get together. My hp 96661405.

hi dancingbiker,

welcome to the club. good that you have gained from his session. kudos to people who are so passionate about this sport and are willing to spending their time and money to share their knowledge and experience with others. the altruism that is happening here is something i find incredibly amazing. after going for a few of bro isk ride, i can gladly say it's not for money or fame.

people who have done nothing can only say, aiyah, it's for the fame only. don't listen to them, what have they done then? and do he or she know what much these bikers has contributed and the pride they takes in these activities? he once organised a massive 88 riders trail in malaysia and at the end of it, there was a buffet dinner awaiting all the riders. everybody enjoyed themselves which is the desired outcome for all these effort.

whenever you have problems with your bikes, you know there are some body out there who can help or advise you. it's not just about the riding but also the company that makes riding more enjoyable.
