On 1st January 2004, I got my class 3 licence.

On 1st January 2005, my DIP will upgraded to 24 points.

On 1st June 2005, I have got my class 2B licence.

Then again on 1st January 2007, I have obtained my class 2A licence.

On 1st February 2007, I was caught beating the red light while riding a 2B motorbike and got 12 demerit points.

And 1st March 2007, i got another parking offence and got 6 demerit points.

I know a lot of you will say I will not be able to ride as I have just passed my 2A and my total demerit point is only 12 points.

BUT I have also heard from instructors from driving centre saying I will still be able to ride as my I was riding a 2B bike and the demerit points for my 2B is 24 points, which after deductions I am left with 6 points.

My question is after getting the parking offence on 1st March 2007, will I still be able to ride and drive?

The instructors talking rubbish. Your demerit points apply for all your license classes. No separate points for separate classes.

For every class, once you graduate from the driving school, you will be a probationary rider and will have 12 points to "spend" for a year. Remain offense-free and it increases to 24.

In your case, if it's 18 points (12 for beating red-light, 6 for illegal parking), you're due for suspension since you've exceeded the 12-point limit for probationary riders.

P.S.: I find it strange...I've never heard of TP parking offences carrying points before. Which funny fella told ya you've earnt 6 points for an offence committed when you're not on the move? o_O

he seem to be quite confident when he said this and said it's the TP who told him...

I find it's unfair if have have 24pts to spare for 2b bike, and 2a only 12pts for 1st yr and you ride a 2b bike why should rider be penalized with only 12pts to spare?

you are only a probationary rider on a 2a bike, but if still on 2b bike, why should the status be reverted back to probationary points system? it makes no sense.

but i guess if it happens as per your described scenario, you can always appeal to be able to use your other classes license.

Nope.... This is due to in the pass. Ppl got say class 2 revoke so they ride class 2a then 2a revoke they ride 2b then 2b revoke the drive class 4 then class 4 revoke then drive class 3. Thats wat happen in the pass and thats why one license revoke means all licence revoke. So meaning your licence very precious.

And they also give you only 12points once you pass any licence for 1 year. That is to prevent you from abusing your class licence i think.

fact is that once u obtained a new license, ur DIPs all become 12 points as the whole point system are linked. thats why people are afraid of the points but not the fines.

So meaning to say, if i pass my Class 2 in 1st January 2008, i will hav 12 points till 1st January 2009? then i will get another 12 points?

but if i got an offence in 1st February 2008, then i will get the 12 point after a year of the date of the offence?

ohh! i always thought it was the demerit points was for all licenses.. under probabtion for 1 and accumulate more than 12 means cannot use all licenses..

Demerit points ARE for all licences. All points apply to all licences, so 24 points and you're all out.

The subtle difference according to the TP is that the 13 point within 12 months rule applies only to probationary licences and not others.

I attended the 2A theory class last night.

What the instructor said was that in most normal circumstances, only the relevant licence will have its points deducted. So assuming you have Class 3 and 2B, and already passed probation for both (i.e. 24 points), if you commit an offence while riding, points will be deducted from your 2B licence but your Class 3 licence points will be intact. Same case for revocation (only relevant licence class will be revoked if points > 24).

Exception would be if you are charged and the court rules that all classes of your licence will be revoked.

The instructor is wrong. Dermit points follow a person, the limit follows the license. Exceed the limit, the license will be revoked.

For example, if you got 14 dermit points, any probationary license will be revoked, because they only allow a max of 12 points.

I have sent an enquiry to TP so let's see what they say. I also quite curious because I have Class 3 too :)

I thought it's stated in the TP site that DIPS applies to 24pts max regardless of how many classes of licence u have... So even if u commit an offence for riding ex. deduct 12 pts, meaning u have only left 12pts balance for all classes ex. 2b,2a,2,3... However if either 1 of the class is still under probationary period and u get another pt (ex.4 pts) deduction, then d probationary class (ex. 2) will kana revoke while d balance classes of 2b,2a,3 are left with 8 pts.

I emailed TP this question a year ago. It's so complex that they haven't got back to me -- despite saying that they would.
