for those still using e71 and thinking of using it as GPS...the built in nokia maps is quite bad...but you can install garmin on it and it works much much better

map: i installed google maps application. Requires internet connection to load maps as you use it, which will make it unsuitable for gps usage on international trips.

 

Apps: you do realize that ovi apps store has quite a number of freebies you can download? Opera mini / mobile is essential for effective web browsing. Skyfire is also a good web alternative.

I'm on it. Been using the camera and gps, very good. I don't like the part about auto focusing using the button "2" and then centre button for the shot The gps has some weak points whereby positioning might be slow at times, maybe its the antenna. Gps also has problem to zoom if you're driving or riding as you need to press "function/shift" button and then "1" or "3" to zoom in/out.

 

the GPS is pre-installed or have to download? E71 has a GPS receiver inside?

i am using e72, but guess more or less the same as e71.

 

anyway anyone managed to install isms? i understand need to sign the cert myself but i can't seems to sign it. anyone can offer some advice?

 

 

and care to share what apps your installed on your phone?

thanks dotless. i got the cert/key and program since last night but just couldnt get it to sign. your link saved me cos i was doing it wrongly previously. but i got it up and running now.

Just a comment ...

- Ovi Maps navigation is not so good, stick with GMXT better.

- if GPS is slow in getting signal, reinstall ur phone software. Remb to backup first and take out SD card before reinstall

I used the E71 for a month. Never hung on me. I think by far, this is the best phone I used so far. I am looking forward at how the E72 can perform.

Using E63 for a very long time now (plastic version E71 sans GPS and slower network).

 

Durable and versatile little thing and I can record video over 4 hours :3
