Hi guys,

For sake of keeping the thread clean I will post this here instead of creating a new one.

I was planning on riding to northern Thailand (Chiang Mai, Golden Traingle, Mae Hong Soon) end of year, and was planning it solo. However, my family and love ones kinda objected to it, unless there's someone to go with me.

Hence right now gathering interest from this forum, on people whom may wanna go with me. We may not need to stick together throughout the trip (e.g. if you wanna go phuket but I don't, we can split up for 2-3 days then meet up again) but generally should be travelling together. It will not be a 'fast' trip either as I'm taking my Super 4. Lastly, it will not be a strictly-by-schedule trip too, something like backpacking lah. It will be a see map, bash through and holland but eventually get there kind of trip.

The trip will be about 2-3 weeks long. The places to cover would be Hatyai, Ko Samui, Krabi, Korat (personal interest...hehe..), Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Soon. Bangkok is also likely but will not go there by bike (rental car or van) due to traffic conditions. Of course these do not include overnight short stops, like Hua Hin and other towns.

So anyone interested? Experienced riders to Thailand who wish to share your experience, maps, directions, chionging places etc, I can meet you over kopi! My treat of course!

Basicly a super4 cant takes u anywhere if its well maintained.

suggest can give bkk a miss. very likely will hollan-ed inside compare to ANY part of thailand plus the horrible traffic condition even on bikes!

Have not been to MHS and Changmai, always wanted to go, but nov/dec will definetly be out for me.

3 weeks(21days) will be very much sufficient for a long trip to north thailand.

couldnt give much advice on northern thai. PM Simon Soh for it and I guess you will be able to benefit from it.

Just got back from central-east thailand not too long.

Can drop me a sms or call anytime if you need any info regarding that region. We can talk over a cuppa free coffee by you  on my trip experience over there.

Hi Snowparang

Interesting plan :)

Met Julian, about a month back @ motorworld and he informed me that the guys might be heading down Cambodia at the end of the year. Maybe can tag along with them as it's on the way.

Anyway, I will be heading up to Thailand at the end of August and will be back sometime in Sept. Just a week long trip up north to Bangkok. Will be doing this solo :)

My challenge is to see if I & my bike can make it to Bangkok in less than 24hours without any major issues with body or machine. Traffic will suck in Bangkok but gotta experience it. :)

If cannot make it Bangkok, probably pop by any of the beaches along the way and take a cool dip and enjoy my break. As long as the weather is fine. Hopefully no tsunami. :giddy:

I actually intend to leave GP on the 27th day or 28th night and I unfortunately nately need to be back in Singapore by Saturday(which I believe is the 2nd of Sept or latest by morning on the 3rd of Sept).

It's really kinda short but I have no choice as I gotta get back to work. :weep:

But if you manage to make it sooner or around the same period, give me a ring. Would not mind meeting up

oic, I guess our timing don't fit...

What bike are you riding btw? How/which route do you intend to ride to Bangkok? I was told a lot of the main roads and flyovers do not allow bikes to travel.

Stayin in lee garden plaza very convenient, shop mankan all around,

my bike and push it next to his post liao ...wonderful!

Some note/ changes to note:

---I reach the KL bypass exit at 214, after the 46km y junction, the next

Y junction to turn off towards Ipoh is 14 km instead of km9 stated in the

sticky...maybe its due to some road diversion but its 14km for sure.

---At the Gerun R&R, caltex petrol kiosk got sell bike insurance.

$19 ringgit and he fill in the thai white card for u.

--Also reach thai custom I did not fill any bike import chit, instead just give

the officer my original bike registration card and he key in and print out

a copy for me.

Bear if u are going for the 1st time...I rode out of the thai custom then realize

Nighthawk_250>> Pls read carefully I am going to be really frank/rude!!!

I took 6.5 hrs from hatyai to krabi stay over for a night

really nothing much there..better for couples wanting a romantic beach rest.

a. Did u stay in Krabi Town/ Ao Nang only without exploring and come to the conclusion of really nothing much there ?

1) Along the route 4 from Trang to Krabi how many waterfalls or hot spring did u bother to visit

2) Just before the junction where u make a left turn into Krabi town

Did u not see high limestone cliffs on the opposite side of the road?

Well on your side of the road there would have been quite a few signs saying Tiger Cave Temple TURN RIGHT!!!

If u had TURNED RIGHT abt 10 Km down the road you would visited a temple that is built into the cliff face at the foot !!! But no tiger though.

On the right of the main building U would have found a nearby staircase that would have led u to another site BUILT RIGHT ON TOP OF THE CLIFFS!!!

The 1237 STEEP STEPS and 600metres that you would have to climb will lead u to a spectacular view of the surrounding region!!!!

3)Further down the road from the temple you have been able to visit the Phanom Benja National Park with a waterfall inside it. Not one of the better ones in Thailand but it sure beats the FAKE one at Jurong Bird Park back in SG!!!

4)On the way to Ao Nang from Krabi town, didn't u ride along a road with limestone cliffs barely 10 metres away from you

5)If u stayed at Ao Nang, did u take one of the many longtail boats right along the beach out to Ao Railay where if U were really fit and adventurous can sign for a rock climb up those spectacular limestone cliffs that drops into the sea. ?

6)If u stayed at Ao Nang, did u take a day trip to the nearby islands or the twin Ko Phi Phi islands for some of the best snorkelling in Southern Thailand?

7)If u stayed at Ao Nang, when facing the sea did u walk left towards the beachfront pubs located right at the end where u could enjoy a beautiful sunset with a cool breeze blowing and a drink? Or did u just take a few steps to the restaurants located at the resorts nearest to U?

Further great rewards would have been recieved if U had walked even further than the pubs. U would have reached a rock cliff base where if u were lucky u would have seen a group of wild monkeys posing around for a simple bribe of a few logans bought from the wet market.

A few steps further U would have seen a wooden staircase that is only accessible during low tide that leading up to a magnificient view of the surounding beach limestone cliffs and the sea.

8) If U travelled abt 20Km Northwest from Ao Nang ON THE WAY to PHUKET, did u not see road signs that pointed the way to Thalen bay where u could have done a bit of sea kayaking!!! Oh yeah along the way in u would have ridden on a road built into the hillside with the hill on your left and the sea down the cliff on your right!!!

9) If U travelled abt 40Km Northwest from Ao Nang ON THE WAY to PHUKET did u not passby a small hill town called Ao Luek an area with plenty of limestone caves for u to explore and if u turned left at that junction a park to visit called Than Bokkaranee that is free entry to even foreigners A RARITY in Thailand

Not sure about it now though coz they were building a new visitors entrance when I last visited it.

10) Did u eat at the farang restaurants at Ao Nang/Krabi Town or did u went to the area near the jetty in Krabi Town where u could have had a nice al-fresco "zi char"(sorry if u do not understand hokkien) style seafood dinner that the locals patronised?

So heres my 10 point rebuttal to your silly claim of really nothing much there of after only a nights stay in Krabi

If you were talking about nightlife then I will agree with really nothing much there as it is quite limited as compared to Phuket and Pattaya

Why am I so aggravated ? Well lets just say that I first rode up to Krabi last year in July and :lovestruck: it so much that I have visited it 3 more times

Stupid rain along the way and up down the hills could be

quite depressing...sometime i ride 40km/h for a long way...zz

The "Stupid rain" is there at this time of the year EVERY YEAR so WHO is to blame for the STUPIDITY!?!

Instead of whining, why not look at the bright sight of things?

Where in Sg can u enjoy a scenery of fog among the limestone cliffs(at Ao Luek, small hilltop town mentioned earlier on the way to Phuket) sipping a hot cup of coffee to keep yourself warm whilst waiting for the "Stupid rain" to get lesser to continue your journey ???

NIL!!! Most likely to be under a bloody expressway flyover shivering from the cold!!!

Very hard to log in this forum from phuket

Last I visited lots of internet shops all over the place or is it because u will be too tired from all d Night time activities u are planning

WANT COMFORT and LACK OF PATIENCE TO EXPLORE

PLS GO AND TAKE A GUIDED TOUR NEXT TIME

Much cheaper that way and less hassle

IT IS PRECISELY STATEMENTS LIKE THOSE THAT U HAVE MADE THAT I DO NOT LIKE TO RIDE IN GROUPS COZ EVEN IF ONLY 1 IN THE GROUP BEHAVES LIKE THAT IT WILL SPOIL THE WHOLE TRIP FOR ME

Despite this being a public forum, I feel a need to make a last statement.

I despise people who like to talk about having been here and there but when asked what they did there ? The answer is invariably "NOTHING"!!!
