You can try flush your coolant system 1st then maybe u can consider removing your thermostat, it'll help a lot as the coolant will be straight flowing so your temp will never really exceed 1/2 or another alternative would be to install a fan switch so u can manually turn on the fan when u feel your bike is getting hot. :thumb:

Good advice there Nelson :thumb:

Some anecdotes here: When I bought my bike over to the RVF gurus at Ubi** for a valve clearance job, I even explained to Mr C. that my cooling system was faulty: Sometimes it turns on as expected, sometimes it doesn't (leading to the engine temperature gauge going in the red zone).

He got that fixed along with that valve clearance and this is what he told me:

His take: The "temperature sensor" was dirty. As such, he disassembled my whole heat-sensing system, inspected and "cleaned" it. That's at least what Mr C. told me.

My take: According to the VFR/RVF Haynes Manual, what turns on the fan is the "fan switch," a circular shiny thingy that is connected to the lower radiator on its RH side. It is responsible for switching on the fan when the coolant reaches a predetermined high temperature.

I won't explain in detail how it works because it's a bit complicated.

A wire runs from that thing, to the fan itself. My prediction was that the ends of that wire were dirty, that's why when Mr C. "cleaned" it,

my fan operated fine as it should.

==================

Interestingly enough, he also told me that my previous bikeshop used a car-type fan switch that switches the fan way too early in the heating process.

(i.e...) in fact, I found out that the fan began to operate at around 1/4 thermometer needle gauge readings; that had me quite baffled at first. I told Mr C. that I would have that changed back to an RVF stock fan switch (which would cost me ard $100+)

He also told me that once that stock fan switch is installed, it should rightfully invoke the fan at around 3/4 thermometer needle reading.

One anecdote from him is that our cooling systems are efficient enough to do such work. Again, I have read the Haynes manual but have decided not to describe it in detail as it's full of chim-inology. But Mr C. did tell me that the fan is there for a purpose: When you're in a jam and you cannot move that much, the fan is there to compensate for the lack of wind to cool your overheating bike.

Hi there.. Anyone been to genting with RVF before? Share your experience?

Will it be too cold that V4 engine cannot start or slope too steep and slippery or any cool and wonderful experience?

Lousy sitting position and end up with aching back or at genting, no space to crash?

Bro, please share share.

My trip to genting was wonderful! No problem given to me by my bike.

But u have to tahan ur seating posture as ur leg will be tired. Try to rest ur hand on ur knee and lie close to ur tank to rest urself while travelling for 380km+ to genting.

If u got pillion, i think ur pillon will have a hard time =p

And 1 thing when going up slope to genting, u will feel ur bike power reduced. And u dont need to worry about it, cos the gravity, pressure and the air there will bring ur combustion of ur engine down. Just gear 1 and 2 up the slope will do.
